You have dug yourself a whole, I now suggest you turn off the JCB before it gets any bigger.
I have already said this is my father speaking on the matter.
Last words on the matter!0 -
Anyway, to clear all this mess up, shimano is the one who is actually really responsible for the broken left shifter. Actually the original LBS was just not aware of the issues surrounding ST-5600 left shifter on a double crankset
After researching online and talking some some LBS around my area in SF Bay, It appears that ST-5600 105 shifters on a double crankset tend to break because of design issues. Even though the ST-5600 left shifter is designed to work on double or triple, it tends to break on a double, but works fine on a triple. Shimano is aware of this issue and will replace it under warranty and replace with a a ST-5601 (which is only for doubles).
The whole issue is the OP had his LBS replace it with with one of the shifters from another bike with the same exact ST-5600 shifters and therefore it breaks again for a 2nd time.
I really most say Shimano hasn't really told this to every bike shop about the issues. Even my local REI shop did not know of the issue. Only some of the Local Performance Bike shops know about this issue, while others do not.
Shimano really hasn't told this to people and allowing ppl with those shifter to go on til it breaks on a double then replace it. I know shimano won't replace it til it's broken. I just think it's just a bad design issue.0 -

Mine broke a little while ago. Took it back to the shop I purchased the bike from and they said this was an issue they know about.
Had my bike in and replaced for new shifter, no cost.
Very good service, well impressed!0 -

Droadie is the kind of person single speed bikes were invented for.
Or cars...0 -
Typical.
An internet moaner. All made up, All one sided, I bet Droadie lied to his dad as well how the shop had behaved and set his dad up for a row too.
Feel sorry for Dad....he was mugged off and now looks one. Draodie what have you done?
The shop was doing everything you asked the them to do and inbetween you wrecked the bloody bike and expected them to treat it as new. Laughable.
Kudos to the shop to come on here with great dignity and explain what a pair of numpties he was havng to deal with.
Suggetion. Sell your bike mate and go away and take up table tennis!I look at my bike and I think.....wow! you are gorgeous (Boardman Urban Pro.........)0 -
This was classic.
Perhaps we can get droadie and Speed King together for some informed debate and cutting analysis.God made the Earth. The Dutch made The Netherlands

There is a problem with the shifters when they are used on a double, and it's well known and documented. Mine went on me yesterday, but it did last three years, and I ride my bikes hard. Upgraded to Ultegra double.
The problem is not with the guy who bought the bike. He didn't wreck the bike. The left shifters have an inherent flaw. It's understandable that he would be upset after spending a considerable amount of money for what was purported to be a good quality product, but clearly is not.
It's common for these to break. Even right away. Therefore it's understandable when he breaks two. Blaming him for the problem isn't fair.0 -
Had the same problem on my bike when it was about 6 months old.
Bike shop had a look at it and fixed within a week under warranty. Very good service from Cycle Store in Congleton
