Team Sky TdU-Opener results

Well, I've been on nights and I purposely didn't check the web before watching the highlights so I didn't expose myself to any spoilers.
I thought the end of the race was really exciting but I wish Liggett and Sherwen wouldn't comment on how wonderful 7 times Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong is so much!0 -
"New Zealand cyclist Greg Henderson today won the Tour Down Under's Cancer Council Classic ahead of Tour de France winners Lance Armstrong and Oscar Pereiro"
Yea they were definitely his main opponents, Lance were right up there with his impressive 62. and Pereiro sprinted in for an excellent 99. place :roll:0 -
Yes, excellent war between the two trains in the last couple of laps. It's good to see Columbia get shut down at last!
Columbia's train seems to be full of powerhouses who TT it, allowing the train to go on for ages and ages, but Sky's had a few sprinters in there, which is sort of why Columbia were able to overpower them at one point. Basically, it seemed to be a few all-out efforts with slight depressions inbetween. If they did the leadout train closer to the end, they could easily beat Columbia every time, as they could keep a higher speed for longer. I think this is why Cav's train was so good - Renshaw being a sprinter was able to go so fast that nobody could come round them once he kicked. Well, they did, but then Cav would kick.0 -

Impressive but it is just a crit ...
I think Blazing's point is you could have originally posted the same content with results and views on the race but with a less Sky-centric subject header. Usual forum protocol is to post it as something like:
Pre-TdU Criterium: Cancer Council Headline Classic - results
and then if anyone wanted to avoid the result until the highlights they could easily skip past the thread.
Sorry I was not aware of just how anal people can be regarding the semantics of thread title construction or the inability of said persons to avoid cycling 'pro race' titled forums if they wanted to avoid knowing what the results actually were? I am sorry if I have spoilt anyone's 'surprise'.
I remember having this debate last year as well it really boils down to this...........if you dont want to know the result then dont visit a professional cycling forum where not unsurprisingly people dicuss cycling races.Gasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

But by the same token, is it such a hardship to manage to put "spoiler" in the title?
i always check the results online but there are some people who record it and watch it later. Adding spoiler means they can ignore that thread. Simples. It's like fitbae results on the news with "look away now"Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Not sure what all that Armstrong/Pereiro stuff was, I assume part of the script, but I think the final laps were properly raced. No surprise that riders who have spent the winter racing in the southern hemisphere are riding fast I guess.
If Sky do have turn out to be rivaling HTC in leadouts, then it will make for some nice duelling all season hopefully.0 -

Has anyone found the highlights on the Team Sky website?0

nope. Funny idea of 'shortly after airing' they've got there...point your handlebars towards the heavens and sweat like you're in hell0

I wonder if its a case of training too hard too soon....
Time will tell I suppose.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -

But it doesnt take away the simple fact if you visit a cycling forum you run the risk of finding out the result. Last year we were getting to the ridiculous situation of posters complaining about finding out the result 5 days after the race becuse the had a 4/5 days worth of recordings to watch. To complain about finding out the result in a forum such as this is a nonsense imo.Gasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

Any more than a day is excessive. Of course you run a risk but we can all do our bit to try and mitigate that risk a bit.

Hi there.
All new teams need early results to put themselves on the map - Cervelo Test Team did exactly the same last year at Qatar (or somewhere like that). To win with a local rider is another bonus!
Cheers, Andy
ps The calibre of sprinters taking the minor places shows what a good win this was.0 -

So, of course MG makes no contribution on the discussion of the cycle race.
Just the usual criticism of forum members.

Anything after the highlights have aired is fair game IMO, but before then it's just common courtesy to refrain from spoiling the result.
The "well don't visit a cycling forum" argument doesn't wash because, wait for it, there are other things to discuss in the cycling world that don't revolve around Sky and the TDU. I know. Shocker.0 -

So Flanners made a small faux par... lets get over it shall we. From the drubbing he's had i'm sure he wouldn't dare do it again... dear oh dear...
I've actually only just seen the result so thanx Flanners!
As for Sky, rock on! Long may it continue...0 -

I know its commom courtesy but if you do find out the result after visiting a cycling forum then you really have no grounds for complaint. Too many posters in here jump all over others for not putting spoiler in a thread title . If you wanted to avoid the result of a race you wouldnt click on a thread with the race in the title would you.Gasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

MG's right - and not only does it name the race, it actually uses the word "result".
Sure, its easy enough to add "spoiler", but I think that on visiting this forum, to discuss "the cycling world that don't revolve around Sky and the TDU", there are plenty of threads which clearly do not include "tdu" and "result" in them. the reader would only have themselves to blame..
recently read an amusing diatribe on tv spoilers0 -
Enough of the thread title wording!
I see from Ligget's twitter that he really is LA's missing testicle.
"Understand TDU is live on Sky Sat and Sun. Versus in the States and SBS in Australia. To America - Lance was ride of day - not the winners."

Why did Sutton sit up and let Henderson take the win? I assume Henderson was the designated rider for the win but it looked like Sutton could have held on.0
