Great race. Sky took it up to Columbia. Couple of shots I took:
BTW - notice the second photo. 1/2 the team had black knicks, the other Charcoal. Not sure why?0 -
Excellent start ! Great pics too SJ !0

Are we getting a Sky thread for every race they ride?"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
I believe the charcoal strips are the skinsuits and the black is just the traditional loose fitting kit.
Amazing result. A completely new team winning with a one, two in the first race of the season is unheard of! Sure it's only a crit, but it was basically Columbia getting completely out-gunned with team Sky horsepower in the last 2 laps from the ticker. Can't wait to watch it this afternoon!0 -
Super impressive SKYtrain today. Made the well drilled Columbia outfit look like amateurs. Griepel was in all sorts of trouble when he lost contact of his two lead-out men.
Also I'd like to day the SKY kit looks awesome in motion. Favourite in the Protour for sure.0 -
Blazing saddles - not a fan of sky then ? It would be silly not to have a thread on the first race of the season - especially as a british team kicked ass in it ?0

Somebody mentioned the highlights were on this aftrenoon.
Could someone enlighten me as to what channel and time please...

Just wondered why the TDU, CC was headed by Team Sky. Usually, we have a "spoiler".
Tends to give the game away, for some, who intend watching the highlights.
Could prove awkward, later in the season, if and when they do well in a big race."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

I don't understand this, is it because you don;t have Sky, or are you annoyed at themselves?
If it';s the latter that's starnge given what they're now doing for cycling0 -
Spacejunk fantastic pics, pro quality!
Blazin'- no but a new team first race of season and a one/two is pretty darn impressive is it not?

A serious question Iain. I know you've been somewhat underwhelmed by Sky so far and I know this is only the first race of the season, but how do you think they performed during the race? Sure, they're going to come out with all guns blazing as a new squad, but then so are many of the others. This isn't a "I told you so" question, just interested to know your thoughts....Let's close our eyes and see what happens0 -
Typical bleedin' Sky Sports News. The post race interview is with Downing but they think it was Sutton. Twonks! :roll:Let's close our eyes and see what happens0

I think they did well. Very well actually, getting one over on the Columbia train is no mean feat.
They've got a good squad for these kind of races I think. Heck, if they had someone who could challenge Cavendish in the sprints they could end up making sprints actually be excting. I tend to find them less convincing as a grand tour squad.
I would also say "it's just a crit" but then it's not too dissimilar to the rest of the TdU I guess.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

Impressive but it is just a crit ...
I think Blazing's point is you could have originally posted the same content with results and views on the race but with a less Sky-centric subject header. Usual forum protocol is to post it as something like:
Pre-TdU Criterium: Cancer Council Headline Classic - results
and then if anyone wanted to avoid the result until the highlights they could easily skip past the thread.0 -
I'm doing media work at the Tour Down Under, and I must admit I have been impressed with Sky. They have gone about their business very low-key here (in comparison to the hype that has surrounded them in recent weeks).
Yesterday I went to a Garmin press conference which turned into name the sponsor (and that wasn't even the riders doing it). Both Garmin and Transitions had placed people in the media to ask questions, like "I notice you are all wearing the same sunglasses guys. What's the deal? They look great... blah, blah, blah"
Team HTC have a media day on Monday - free grub and drinks etc, as does Team BMC.
Yet this whole time, Sky has just gone about it all very workman like.
The end of the race was great. I know HTC aren't happy they have been knocked off their perch and will be looking to show all who's boss.
I guess it means we'll get bunch sprints all week
But let's hope it's the start of another rivalry.
Whats that now?
HTC vs Garmin
HTC vs Sky
Radioshack vs Astana
iainf vs sky (just kidding!)0 -

One downside to Sky's new found interest in cycling... BLOODY SPOILERS ON SKY NEWS :twisted:0

"Technically, there's a lot you can take from the track and apply to the road - I think that today the plan was to take it to Columbia, we'd knew they'd come back at us and then we'll able to go at it again. Perfect," said Brailsford, who oversaw Great Britain's all-conquering performance at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
"They [HTC-Columbia] knew that was coming - they knew that in everything we did during the week. We knew they'd come back at us and then we'd go at them again; there's so much you can take from the track in terms of tactics. We're pretty good at the track and the people who have doubted us, said we wouldn't know what we're doing... well, we're here and we mean business," he added.Le Blaireau (1)0 -

Sorry I was not aware of just how anal people can be regarding the semantics of thread title construction or the inability of said persons to avoid cycling 'pro race' titled forums if they wanted to avoid knowing what the results actually were? I am sorry if I have spoilt anyone's 'surprise'.
I am not a jingoistic fool, just very proud that a British team is on the verge of shaking it up on the world road racing stage. It's about time we celebrated success and got behind something home grown rather than the usual snipes, carping and put downs that we often tolerate and seem to get such a perverse enjoyment from.Colnago C60 SRAM eTap, Colnago C40, Milani 107E, BMC Pro Machine, Trek Madone, Viner Gladius,
