Well, snows gone, bellys still here, back to work. Time to dust the road bike down again and do some riding.
Is anyone interested in doing rides on a monday morning? I work nights so have monday free till 3pm. Can't do weekends, too many family commitments atm.
My usual routes take in the areas around south manchester, through wilmslow, alderley, knutsford, chelford, macclesfield, poynton. Hilly routes are up the cat & fiddle, long hill, hyde and mottram way. If you're in any of those areas, and fancy meeting up this monday, reply here. I'm going for a flat 40 ish miler this monday to wake my legs back up, steady pace of around 10 - 15 mph max.

Yes definately. I've been meaning to get out myself.

Where do you want to meet? What time?

I'll be coming from MCR city centre so anywhere is ok as a meeting point, within reason.

Can you get a train to Romiley station from Picadilly? (I mean, I know you can, but do you want to? :))

Was going out around 10am, most of the traffic has calmed down by then. I only live up the road from the station, happy for you to come round to mine with a bag of clothes for a change after the ride.

Yeah, I can by road, although if you're thinking of going through Poynton/Macc/etc, it's a little bit out of the way and I try to avoid the A6 for obvious reasons... I live near the city centre, but it's actually quicker to just ride anywhere than get the train, unless i'm going somewhere far... The inconvenience of having to get through the city centre to the nearest station is just not worth the trouble usually.

I usually go out via Cheadle/Woodford before heading to Prestbury and that general direction so I could meet you somewhere near where our two routes would probably cross...

There may be a few others up for this. I'll let them know.

No problem. Woodford sounds like a good place to meet. Outside the airfield? 10am? Route I'm thinking would take in wilmslow, alderley, maybe knutsford, macc and back. You could peel off at poynton and come back to woodford off the macc road?

  • Could be up for this occasionally, my shifts change every week but I do get Mondays off every 2nd or 3rd week, depending on how it falls. Could bring the bike to Stockport on the rack and ride with you from there. Like the idea of seeing Cheshire for a change (Aunitie lives near Congleton so done some rouds round there, Mow Cop  included. It`s all big hills and traffic over here as soon as I get out the house, so I end up not doing a lot of miles and being knackered :)

Can't make it out tomorrow, as i've just realized i've got a REALLY important interview in the morning. :!: Can deffo do next monday though. Might be able to get a few people out next week too.

Woodford Aerodrome at 10am sounds good.

How long are you looking to be out for? Got a specific route in mind?

No problem bhima. Route tomorrow will probably be over to knutsford, then head for macc. If I get out again in the week then I'll maybe do a hilly ride up long hill next week.
Let me know if your up for it.

Good luck with the interview?! :)

  • I live in north manchester and do shift work so regularly get mondays off. I'd be well up for getting out for a ride I'll check out my off duty and get back to you with when I'm free if that's ok. Like jonnyallez i'l bang the bike in the car and drive over.

Well, that was hard work this morning! Did 41 miles from home via alderley edge to knutsford, then to chelford and back into alderley. A quick run round the back lanes to poynton, then back home. Felt good to be out riding again though.
Can do the same route next week. Average speed was a poor 13mph and it took me just over 3 hours. Room for improvement! :)

I work permanent nights mon - fri. My main ride day is a Monday, but I'm trying to get out on wed and fri afternoons too. Usually get out for 3pm on wed & fri, which atm means ending my ride in the dark.
Happy to come out when our schedules allow it. Pm me your moby and I'll text you when I get up today.

Quite fancy that beginners ride with the wheelers, will see if I can get the time off from home duties.

Ok, so are we all on for Monday at 10am then?

This is the entrance to Woodford Aerodrome, right?

    Met office says:
Mainly dry but rather cloudy with a few some sunny spells developing, but still the risk of a few wintry showers. Generally moderate to good visibility. Light to moderate northeast winds. Freezing level around 400 metres.
  • Fingers crossed I could make this if i'm ok to join you guys.

Still good for Monday. Bhima, can you meet us at 10:30? We'll miss most of the rush hour traffic if we set off just that half hour later.
Anyones more than welcome to join, pace will be nice and steady and we'll not be dropping anyone.
See you either at mine, ready to ride at 10am, or at woodford for 10:30.
    Cheers
    chris.
