I hate the snow. Please transfer me to april immediately.
i was working out theres an easy 600-700g to be saved changing the seat post, saddle, stem, bars and some different wheels.
transam saddle is quite a chunky bugger but on my giant its a nifty upgrade, same as the rs20s were. but i decided against going for the zero 100 stem and bars but still thinking about the deda superzero white seatpost..100 gram lighter than the csn part alone! just not cheap!Crafted in Italy apparantly0 -
Yeah, I reckon new rubber, bars, seat post and some half decent wheels, it should be there abouts 15lb.
Then it's just my chronic lack of power that makes me slow...0 -
Just weighed the bike, 10.4 kg not particularly that light, about a kg heavier than my old bike. Still prefer it over my old trek 1.7 though.
I should probably stop posting on this thread, and bringing it back up to the top, i feel like im hogging the forum.Ribble Gran Fondo

Hope it looks as good as i want it to>
 :?:What goes down has to go up, only slower0 -
mine was roughly a late 8kg with ultegra, rs20s, etc
the csn seatpost might as well be made of steel...it is far from lightweight
gary how much did your spec cost you?
should look mint! if i had the cash that would be my specCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -

What size did you get? rang up today to order a med and they arent going to be in stock till the end of march! apparently they were having issues with the guys that were doing the painting so its put them back another month.
bit of a dilema now, do i wait till mid april to get my hands on one or start looking else where! this fifteen hundred quid is burning a serious hole in my pocket! :?0 -
Look good, better than the pics on the Ribble website, but def a white seat. Was planning to get one myself but I couldnt get the spec I wanted for the price....Cycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0

Stunning looking bike, I've had one of the Ribble Scandium framed bikes for about 5 years and it is superb. I had the 7005 Alloy one before that but the scandium frame is so much more responsive.
The paint job on yours really sets it off well. I agree with the comments on the pink tape though, it really should be black0 -
Hi, I am looking to get a Gran Fondo myself very soon, but am a little confused about the sizing. I thought I would get a size XL, but when I phoned Ribble they told me I should get a size L. I am 182cm tall with an inside leg of 87cm and a longer (+) arm reach. Is anyone with one similar in size (ie. approx 6')? what size did you go and how much clearance is there from the crotch to top tube on your bike (standing in bare feet)?
I have looked at the frame sizing specs on their website and looking at the top tube length (which I understand to be the most important) it seems that for a 57cm horizontal top tube length (inside leg x 0.65) I should get an XL??...
any advice appreciated.
thanks very much0 -
i'm 5'10 and got a Large. i think if i was much taller I'd have got an XL as it is quite a compact and low down frameCrafted in Italy apparantly0

Hope what I have to say helps, what you have posted and the comment from acidstrato makes me feel that the size I've ordered, hopefully, will be be okay.
I was wrongly ( under) measured a few years ago and as a result it took me a while to get the bike feeling okay, it involved getting a longer stem and saddle adjustments. It feels ok now as I've got used to it and don't have any aches or pains but I've always thought it was on the small side
I've a Gran Fondo on order and was measured at Ribble. I'm just under 6ft and sitting on the jig they decided I needed an XL. The sizing formula for a monocoque frame is different to other frames, I was told. I am confused by self sizing information you have to collect especially when it's a different formula for differing frame types hence the reason for getting measured at Ribble. They told me I needed sixe XL, stem 110mm and crank 172.5. Acidstrato is 5ft 10" and states if he were any taller would opt for the XL, You are 6ft, fractionally taller than me, you seem to have gone through the measuring process in great detail and I would stick with your measurements. They had a size XL in the showroom when I went and straddling the crossbar( shoes on ) it felt ok, an good inch or so clearance. Lets know how you get on, I'll report back with comments when I've taken delivery.0 -
i also went for a 110 stem and 172.5 crankCrafted in Italy apparantly0

The difference is 3 cms not 3 inches.
Perhaps acidstrato can help as he's only a couple of inches taller than you?
According to their website they've sold out of small, medium and large sizes until the end of March, that suggests there are many riders out there with S, M and L sizes. Get posting on a few forums, WANTED 5FT 8 INCH RIBBLE GRAN FONDO OWNERS0 -
at 5'8 you'd prob be ok on either
think i'd still get a large with the saddle fairly low but you'd be best off trying the frames out for yourself. i def wouldnt have wanted a medium thats for sure, my Giant is 56cm for a Large and I use that for everythingCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -
I've just decided to get one of these for it

Hi Ravoire, how tall are you in cm? b/c if you are just under 6 foot and Ribble measured you and said you should be an XL, then i think I should be an XL also - unless you have ridiculously long legs. I am 182cm, but with shorter legs and longer arms :-) so provided i have clearance on the top tube [standing] then for the reach should be fine...
thanks0 -

Been looking out for you lxwb.
I'm about 5 ft 11 - 5ft 11.5. it's a while since I had my height measured, but don't reckon I've shrunk much with the passage of time. I've just got my bike, it looks superb but haven't been out on it yet as waiting for some decent weather and have been busy setting it up and checking it out. Both valves were loose, one came out when I took the cap off and the other needed tightening. Everything else appears to be ok had it on my turbo trainer to go through the gears, the brakes work fine and are set up correctly.
Regarding size I have plenty of clearance over the top tube, I've moved the saddle back a bit and have about 5mm of rear adjustment left. I got the 110mm stem and 172.5 cranks, if I were any taller I'd get a 120mm stem and 175 cranks. If you're a bit taller than me that's what I'd suggest.0 -
Second thoughts. IF you are a bit shorter in the leg and longer in the arm then maybe stick to the 172.5 crank but go for a 120mm stem. 2.5 mm in the crank is not much at all and you have plenty of height adjustment in the saddle.
Acidstrato's 5ft 10 and got an L with 110 stem and 172.5 cranks.0 -
I have a transam Xo saddle on my winter bike and it's fantastic for the money. Well comfy.
Stevie.
Nice bike.0 -
Thanks again Ravoire. Much appreciated.
I sent my order and payment in yesterday after your last post
Went for the XL, with 172.5 cranks and 110 stem [i have a 120 stem at home, so if thats better i will send the 110 back for a 120].
Ribble said it should be only about a week for delivery to London. How does that sound, likely or merley an estimate to nearest quarter? I can't wait to get it [especially since my old Giant TCR is now officially a 'write-off' - cracked frame] , but from a few of these posts, it sounds like I need to give it a thorough check over before i take it out.
anyway, thanks again.
cheers0
