    Paging jds1981 to the thread...

Thing to watch is the N36L at least had a maximum current draw on the graphics slot. Would advise NVidia as well as it's hard to get 3d acceleration working on the graphics card when using radeons.

I use XMBC on the Apple TV with the N36L i have as a media server. It is quiet enough. If you want a GFX card in it, it needs to be low profile.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

The neroprene overshoes are £14.99 on their own which I thought was reasonable value when I bought a pair a few weeks ago.

You might want a size up from indicated if you are using on chunky MTB style shoes as the medium/large pair I bought are very tight (but usable) around my size 44 Shimano shoes.

Planet-X Phaart Bleep Dual 0.5 Watt LED Rear Light - £2.50.

    20121211_183904.jpg

    20121211_183938.jpg

First impressions are good (especially as they're literally beer-money cheap). The clip is very positive so I don't think there is any of it rattling free from the bracket. Solid build, the only issue being the the lense cover doesn't quite fit against the seal properly (on this one - others might be better).

    20121211_184023.jpg

Easily rectified with a bit of old 700c inner tube.

    20121211_184134.jpg

As bright as the Smart Lunar R2 Rear Light I bought a month or so back for £14.50, just doesn't have the additional pulse mode.

Also bought a couple of Phaart Aeon 3 Watt LED Front Light - £4.99 for the boys bikes. Again seem really solid and bright/visible enough to be seen urban commuting.

    20121211_184245.jpg

Be aware that the mount is only suitable for small diameter handlebars. No good for oversize bars and I cannot see an obvious way to adapt the bracket.

    really?
With a frame that's set up with mounts for racks or mudguards, as well as bottle mounts to keep you refreshed or your light batteries in the right place, you're set to roll in style

And they are quite visible in the pictures...

Damn, I wish I had an excuse to buy that Alfine Pomp! Unfortunately the CX is too capable so i don't need a 'winter' commuter.

I was admiring a CX with hub gears at a race last weekend. At the time I assumed it was a Rohloff, but could have been Alfine. Bit heavier than a derailleur, but almost totally immune to clogging up...

I've seen a few ppl sticking drops and chunky wheel/fork combo on a pomp for cx mode. After seeing this deal and my never ending battle with suspensions, eyeing up the 456/whippets for a while & knowing I rarely find trails or dh I can't justify a hardtail. Its also a lot cheaper option than the Dirty Disco i've been drooling over, doubting i need carbon tartyness and would be too worried about torque settings to maintain it.

There's too many n+1 options and not enough pay packets

EDIT-ah mind you not sure if the discs on this version wouldn't play well with drops

Is there not a little screw under where the light slides on to the bracket which, if you undo it, allows you to pull the wrap strap out further?

The Avid 7's should work fine with STI shifters.

Aren't they (the ones that work with STis) the BB7 Road, which are different to the MTB (flat bar) ones?

You can extend the strap on the Phaart Front Light (using a ratchet rather than a screw) and on the extreme limit the strap is (just) long enough to reach around oversize bars. The problem is that then the cam doesn't close positively enough and the lightest touch causes it to open. I did consider bodging it by holding the cam closed with a piece of wire (I may still do) but on that basis I couldn't really recommend it to others for oversize bars. :( This isn't an inherent problem with the mount as it is totally solid on narrower diameter bars.

Shame as the light itself is fantastic for £5; a much better light 'to be seen with' than the Ultrafire 501b torch I am using. The only flash mode the 501b offers is an epilepsy inducing strobe  and because my commute is 90 minutes the Li-on battery needs recharging after every trip. (edit: it might be that my ultrafire batteries are just rubbish)

Oddly enough Planet-X are stating the following in the specifications despite it being a flat-barred build.

Am I correct in thinking that the incompatibility between Road STI levers and MTB brakes is that the STI lever does not draw enough cable when fully pulled? Therefore MTB levers on road brakes would work but just have a shorter than normal pull?

I do have a similar mount (irrc the screw loosens the ratchet) - I have to admit, I don't know why they are as small as they are but I have found that they lock on nicely to the insulation tape at the end of the bar tape. They need a bit of compression to work - either from the rubber strip or the bar tape.

Hmm, compression makes sense. I'll have another go in the morning and report back. The fact that the bars of the CX are fitted with suicide brake levers doesn't help as the underneath is v.cluttered with the levers themselves, cables and adjusters.

Those light mounts are adjustable for bigger bars. Remove the light, undo the screw where the light clip on and you can dismantle the mount, then you can move the inner bit to on of three different positions making it bigger. I have two.....
