But need to take a wheel off, and will it play nice with mudguards (some customer reviewers say not)? and resting on the BB, you still can't clean the grubbiest corner of the bike ie under the BB. Are 'clamp' type stands really so bad for ally bikes? Has anyone ever actually broken a frame using one?"I had righteous got my wheel backmost from a fettlin' at the LBS and was hunt transport to equitation it. As it was Refrigerated in the AM......"0 -

At this price this seems like a steal. I don't really see that removing the front wheel is an issue. Otherwise the reviews seem good.0 -

That looks a good deal - I have the Park version of that design and it was a lot pricier than that.
I don't use the stand for cleaning the bike anyway (I have a wheel stand for that) and mudguards can just be gently eased out of the way of the arm. You have the same access to both sides of the bike and the whole setup feels immensly stable.Faster than a tent.......0 -

Spotted and bought...
Looking at bikes in Milton Keynes for my friend to commute on and do some leisure riding - budget was £300 - £350 at a push. Tried Evans (Pinnacle Lithium One wsd and Pinnacle Neon wsd - not bad, but not quite right), then to Trek Store and tried a wsd FX7.1 (only one in her budget), again not bad (heavy tho). Then on a whim I decided to go looking in Phil Corley cycles, not expecting anything as they are top end dealer (Cervelo, Trek Madone, etc). But there, on the shelf, in the right size, a Spesh Sirrus Sport 2011, already fitted with top end mudguards, at £349.. Bargain... that £310 for the bike.... perfect...Invacare Spectra Plus electric wheelchair, max speed 4mph0 -

Well it turned up today. I think it's going to be good but it's slightly odd. The tripod frame itself is incredibly robust and affords really good access. The sliding clamp for the front forks though is a little wobbly and the skewers that come with it are downright crappy (though I'm thinking you can use normal ones). Coupled with the mount on the BB, whilst the bike is secure, it's quite wobbly. To some extent this defeats the robustness of the frame. At 70% off, I think it's good value but I'd have been disappointed at full price.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
I've always just slung a webbing loop around the seatpost and hung bikes from a ceiling hook to work on them. If I need rigid then a workmate adapted to grip the wheels. Never seen the use for a workstand TBH.FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits

Presumably (if it is like the Park one I have) the slider has a lock of it's own - it's actually the clamp onto the forks that holds the bike still. Without the clamp (a knob on the Park stand) the bike would be wobbly - I see in the pic of the Elite version it uses a lever underneath the slider.
Again, if the skewers are like the Park ones they are designed to be a bit different to standard ones (probably to stop you using them as such) - the cam action is much coarser so you don't tighten them up as far before you swing the lever over. There is a bit of a knack to it.
The bike is held at the BB end by a strap - which is a bit Heath Robinson and fiddly but it keeps everthing together and I can't say anything has felt at all wobbly to me!
Hope this helps!!SimonAH wrote:I've always just slung a webbing loop around the seatpost and hung bikes from a ceiling hook to work on them. If I need rigid then a workmate adapted to grip the wheels. Never seen the use for a workstand TBH.
They are more convenient than ceiling hooks and workmates! They can also be used where ceilings or ceiling hooks aren't available
Have to admit, there isn't much cycle repair I think I'd find satisfactorily done with my bike hanging from the ceiling but I suppose you adapt to it.......Faster than a tent.......0 -

.......
Yup - that's pretty much it.
The clamping lever on the slider is quite slack when in the locked position so the slider rocks from side-to-side.
Part of the issue with the skewers is that the rod screws into the cam end (as you try to tighten the other end) and jams the cam - it feels all a bit cheap and nasty. I'm sure a few adaptions will be great.
Agree - cant see me working on a bike hanging from the ceiling.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Got a puncture in the dark before Christmas and there was a thorn in the tyre that I just could not get out : consequently I got about 4 miles down the road and another tube went : another 2 tubes later and I'd called out the race car to get me home .....
If I'd had one of these tweezers with the built in LED not only would I have got the thorn out but crucially I would have been able to see the wretched thing in the tyre in the first place.

You have to order online and collect in the shop, but beware because it is a genuine clearout stock levels are wrong online so don't go to the shop until the text confirmation arrives. I had calls from two shops to say they couldn't actually find the tool, but I got there in the end0 -

Whilst browsing, these Pearl Izumi shoes caught my eye, more so because they are still available sizes 44 & 45 that would fit more people than the usual sale sizes that are around, that are more likely to fit elves and Pixies (Not the Lott variety)
No idea if they are any good, but that is a big discount :-)
