Oh good grief. Got the right cassette but now found the tool I've got for it has been made badly and it won't fit. So that's a trip to the shop again. I'm destined not to get out this weekend and I'm wasting such fantastic weather . Think I'll leave the creaking pivots for now though.

If by some miracle I get the cassette, chain and sort the gears out I'll head out later this afternoon. Maybe I'll go over to Swinley tomorrow.


Edit: I give up. Got a replacement for the dodgy tool. Fits fine, but the lockring is stuck tight. Checked every video and guide to make sure I'm doing it right and it should just come off easy. Plenty of threads here with people with the same problem though. Tried a number of suggestions (soak in WD40, longer spanner arm, whack with a mallet!), but it won't budge.

Stuff this. I'll take the wheel to the LBS and see if they can manage it, but otherwise it looks like I'm doing something else this weekend then.

Shame to hear so many strugles from Dkenny. 

Today's ride was ... eventful. Stunning weather, dusty singletrack. In fact so dusty it took me half an hour to cough all out at home. Going to close behind a rider isn't good idea in that respect.

Atz happened to climb all hills, and I was told off by Cool-dad* that I am really wrong in describing what is a climb and uphill, there weren't that many anyway. 

Got lost in some parts at Leith hill, but apart from that all route was an awesome singletrack, yea that's the way baby! Yaauuuu! :-) 

Even got few casualties ... but that will be shown in videos. 

Hope the next day Bungalistic will just shake things off and ride more, and The33lter's quote ... -Brambles are evil !!! 

The most reasonable rider and the one who witnessed all stupidity by us ... was Immike, the man savoured wonderfull ride, made few picx and killed his legs.

Sounds great. Look forward to the videos!. Hope to be good for the next ride though. Finally got the cassette sorted (thanks to taking some fire to the lockring in the form of a mini blow torch ). Next up, sort the gears.

Would have been a great day for my camera. Got a polariser on it and would have shown the clear blue sky up perfectly. With no planes about there are no trails in the sky either.

Did you do the same stuff (apart from getting lost) on Leith, or anything new?

Did all the same Holmbury-Leith-Holmbury, but to start off with BKB and stocking up at Peaslake for lunch at Leith hill Tower. Took some good 4hours for the whole trip.

In fact, there were no single cloud in the skyes!!!

According to "Cool Dad" from 10 till 4 is 6 hours :roll: (but less a bit for rests)

I got up all the hills too, also can't wait for the 'interesting' videos of me

Nahhh, we started 10.30, then stayed half an hour at Peaslake +45minutes lunch at Leith Tower hill +3.9 seconds for me to change wheels after some miserable puncture. Will take me some time to edit video's and need help. Can't work out what music to put into background into Thel33ter and Bungalistic special moments. You must choose music otherwise Geri Halliwel may sing along. I am really bad with music taste. And yes Thel33ter can climb allright :shock: .

You're probably right about the time Popstar, but I include food and rest stops, and maybe just feels longer on my older legs.

Anyway was great ride, and you did a good job leading it, nice mix of ups, downs and bouncy bits and I learnt a whole lot of new bits we've never been on before.

And supra-man I think he did ride up it, really annoying for those of us pushing.

Mehhh, we didn't ride it. Lethal uphill is for better times, surprisingly I didn't feel fit to take Thel33ter to that uphill. Need more training ... NO, I think I just had bad Mud tyres and really heavy camelback, next time think I will be prepared.

p.s. Thel33ter and Bungalistic any suggestions for music track for your vidz?

More tyre pressure required. Or so they say. Don't know if it's true. Then again, I've read lower pressure is better for off road, but I guess you risk the flats more.

Nahh, pressures were high up. Just hit big rock at massive speeds.

Movies are ready, will not upload them as don't have music tracks to run in background. Any suggestions? I don't have any themed proper music, give suggestions please, then at least I would get an idea. Red hot chilli peppers doesn't really run along. Thinking of stucking gorillaz* somewhere.

gorillaz would work, but then I like that stuff. Not really sure what goes though. Most the videos just seem to be american grunge rock or whatever kind of stuff. Generic noise. It's okay, but not a big fan, but they all seem to go with that stuff. Same with ski & snowboard videos. My likes: Muse, UNKLE, Bowie, Blur/Gorillaz, Orbital, Faithless, Chemical Brothers. There's always Queen's Bicycle Race (but I'm not volunteering to ride around naked ).

Anyway, off to test the bike. Chain & gears I think are sorted. Creaking suspension I think not. Quick nip round the block and then maybe Surrey Hills.

We did a couple of hours around St Mary's hill and across Blackheath today. Really sandy, like riding through the bloody Sahara in places. Not fun, and legs were still shagged from yesterday, I need time to recover these days.

Making up for missing out yesterday, did a little epic of my own. From Peaslake, up Holmbury Hill, Y Pots, Telegraph, explored some bits to the right of the end of Telegraph and dropped down to Holmbury St Mary, up the road, up the climb to Leith (so much easier this week!), Tea at the tower , on to Summer Lightning and kept on going (not down the stairs though), loop round left and up a long road for miles back towards the top of Leith, dropped down to some place where there seems to be a load of jumps, back up to the tower, down the singletrack we did the other week, down the fast trail to the bottom, up Holmbury, tried to get onto Reservoir Dogs but there's loads of tree felling going on, and finally down Barrys and back to Peaslake. Phew!

20 miles my GPS said. Improvement on my usual 10. Pace was right as it took about 5 hours with a stop.

All the while my bike was creaking like mad :evil:. Really need to sort that out this week.

Great ride yesterday, cheers guys. I didn't even notice that we got lost! Next time I'll be a bit more adventurous so you can get some more crash footage

Well, my eyes have seen lots of dust and you flying ... camera didn't. If I was to film how it happened and was closer to you ... think that would be a triple crash, god bless if I had to land on someone. With all gear on me, that would be around a sack of 16+stones flying.

Seems to be something going on most weeks at the moment. I should be up for something again at the weekend. Assuming I can reassemble the bike once I've pulled it apart this week
