This is doing my head in. Time to end this creeping US imperialism.

If you don't stop saying 'Campy'' I will have to come round your house and kill you.

It is Campag.

Thank you.

You had better find a place to stay here in the US. It's gonna take a while to get us all.
I have never heard anyone "over here" call it Campag. Now granted, ever since we split with "The Empire", way back when, we just don't seem to be doing that well but Campy it is and Campy it will stay unless you bring a lot of help.
  • Americans don't do style. Just accept it and pity them.
  • the g in campagnolo is silent, so why pronounce it in the shortened version?

    campanyolo

    so:

    campa or campy is fine

    Americans claim to speak English!
English comes from England, therefore if we shorten Campagnolo to Campag, all ex colonials should do the same (even if it's an Italian name to start with).
It's our language, so we call the shots. Right!!!:lol:

    Apparently it's pronounced lasagne here.

I've always said it - lasanya.

Well, not to get too far into this pursefight. We americans got it from the Italians who say "compi". Those fooking crazy Italians can't even say their own names properly. I'll have to notify the Campagnolo factory about that. But since I try to practice "When in Rome, do as the Romans" I'll use Campag in this forum.

Well, we are being taken over by the Chinese so soon it will be "Comepy-lan-go.
  • Late 1970's early 1980's I had a 10 speed (I was devastated I couldn't afford a 12 speed  ) Compagnolo and the bike mechanics at the LBS used to pronounce it as: Compag (with a hard "g"). It's stuck with me since.

In the south of England it's pronounced "Carmparg" (soft 'A' as in Barth, Glarsgow)
Southerners get caught out with 'Glastonbury' though.
Seriously though, it doesn't really matter, providing you know what's
being talked about. I'd hate to think people are going to lose sleep
    over this.
  • I sure as hell won't be losing any sleep over it. What does get my goat is people who spend a fortune on a spangly italian bike (Pinarello etc) then put bloody Shimano on it!! ARGH!!!

Right, you're next then. Go on, up against the wall. Think of this as you feel the bullets ripping through your body and you slump to your knees,

All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.

Americans, French, Italian, I don't care, they can say what they like, but in the English speaking world it's fecking CAMPAG
  • While we're at it can we pronounce a Fatwa on people calling Specialized bikes 'Spesh'..... Crap bikes, worse abbreviation :D
