do I need a top swing front derailleur?0
-
it appears so, if the cable routing goes along the top then yeah0
-
top swing is the pivot point of the mech, top pull is the cable routing around the mech, but most are both these days.
Top swing and bottom swing depend on your frame clearance and seat tube bottle boss positioning.0 -
I'm pretty sure the last two XT front mechs i bought, could be operated by a top or bottom pull.0

not sure which 'swing' to go for, I was thinking top swing, dual pull0
-
why not ask some other patriot users what they're running? i used to have an older patrot but i never had a front mech on there...0

bits are slowly building up

That derailleur looks like my older XTR one bottom swing, dual pull.
You got a rear wheel already? What front wheel is it?
I've decided on my WIP I'm just gonna leave it as people weren't that interested and I'll post in a few weeks when it's fully complete and hopefully get more of a reaction.
Looking good so far.0 -
no back wheel yet, still looking
its a top swing, bet it won't fit
forks and a rear wheel next0 -
Should I go for a double or triple chainset?0
-
Double 22/36 or 24/38 if you can find them, then check on STW for a guy selling Laser cut titanium bash guards for £20 for 2mm thick, diameter designed for 36 tooth chainrings (if you go the 36 Tooth route)
I've almost finished mine, just need the rear mech and lime green grips to come, it'll make sense when people see it!0 -
Its just I have never had any experience with a double
It would make more sense as I want to do the mega, just not sure how a double would work out for general xc stuff?0 -
I've read on another thread that by having a 36t middle ring you only lose one actual different gear combo than having a 22/32/44 triple set-up.0
-
i like having a 36t middle ring, i barely use the outer or granny rings and 36t seems to be the magic number for me. Or is it 34? i can't actually remember0

how much were the lyriks?
what sort of riding will you be doing?0 -
sweet, starting to look good now
Also just remembered i use a 34t middle ring, seems to suit most riding, might fit a bash instead of the outer ring on my scott as i never use it. It was 36t i use on my ss i just remembered, so kind of irrelevant.0
