For anybody curious about the timing situation, UK cycle events have passed me onto the chip time people Race Time Systems:Hi
So sorry about the issue re the timing.
We are looking at the issue right now and we promise to get any problems resolved as soon as possible.
We were using a new system at the weekend which uses disposable timing tags, these tags are state of the art, but unfortunately they were affected by the number of different ways people put them on their bikes! (now resolved for future events)
This meant that we had to revert to a manual system, so please bare with us as we resolve these issues.
Kind regards

Thanks iP - found it 4hrs 52 less the 20 mins for drink and banana breaks makes 4.32 for 56 miles so I'm well chuffed with that0

I've just signed up for this:

The long one of course! Was a great ride last year, cake stops were particularly impressive.0 -
I've signed up for the Evans Chilterns event next Sunday - going for the 60 miler this time after my success in the New Forest0
-
Just signed up for the Magnificat, which I notice is the week after the Dragon Ride. My scalp will be available for collection all along the Old Kent Road between 14 and 16 June.0

Signed up for this (the long one!):

Did it the year before last, its a great route with some surprisingly tough climbs. Good food (hot meal at the end), free bottle and a t-shirt, and it starts and finishes at my old school!0 -
Going to do the Wessex 100 in Sept :
And maybe the Bristol 100 a week after the Dragon : (may need to send in a team of skilled negotiators to get this agreed though ...)

Yup, I'll probably ride there and back as well, but *definitely* not up Whitchurch Hill ! Will blast down it on the way home though :-)Misguided Idealist0 -

Ahem - Evans route change warning to those on the long route:
"After a long descent into Streetley you cross over the Thames and straight up the hill the other side, then 20 odd miles on great country roads before the final sting in the tail, the final climb from Pangbourne up to the event centre."
Streatley Hill AND Whitchurch Hill !
Glad I'm doing the medium route :twisted:Misguided Idealist0 -

bring it on!
both good hills, and I was wondering how they could route a ride around that area without including whitchurch hill.
needless to say, however, they do not feature highly on my list of hills i really want to ride up at the wrong end of 90-odd miles0 -
Rubbish day today - cold, wet and two days of a stomach bug left me with no energy - I'm afraid I bailed and only did the 30 miler - which took me over three hours. :oops:0

+1. I've had a cold for the last 2 weeks so done almost no ridng, just started feeling better on Friday.
Fortunately I brought a mate who's a far stronger cyclist than me, and who dragged my sorry @rse round the 60-miler. From 25-35 miles was grim; freezing wind, rain, big black clouds and I was wishing I'd done the 30
General unfitness meant I spent more time at drink stops etc, so elapsed time was around 4h45, but actual riding time 4h19 which I'm well pleased with :-)
Rode there and back as well so a daily total of around 72 miles.
Got home and the lovely Mrs FB ran me a bath and poured me a beer - go recovery !Misguided Idealist0 -
I was thinking of you all as i slogged my way across a wet & windy salisbury plain, those dark clouds seemed to follow me whichever way i turned.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

I found the weather to be something of an irritant yesterday as well. I hadn't expected it to be so cold and wet and so underlayered and was mostly cold (except when going uphill!)
I started the day getting a flat on the ride to the event, then my riding buddy got a flat in the first 4 or 5 miles (on a particularly nice and exposed wet and windy stretch!), but after that I enjoyed the ride, although it was slower than I'd intended - I don't know my time for the course yet, but with the ride there and back I ended up doing 102 in around 6.30.
have to say chapeau to the chap on the yellow fixie. thats good work taking on the hills without gears.0 -

Your girlfriend was on the rampage in the Chlterns area yesterday though - never seen so many p*nctures !Misguided Idealist0 -
Yesterday was my first sportive so not sure what to expect. I didn't quite expect the wind & the rain though :-) Also witnessed two accidents and the aftermath of a broken collar bone for one poor soul :?
Did the 60 miler in 3 hours 40 with a fair bit left in the tank so quite happy with that - even though it averaged out to just under 16 mph. A subjective question I know, but how does that sort of time rate?? - Just trying to big myself up really
Is a couse like that considered hilly or undulating? or doesn't it rate for either? Trying to get a feel of how that will compare for others.
Cheers & kudos for all who braved it yesterday.Boardman Team carbon LE #077
2008 Rockhopper Pro0 -
I think Evans had yesterdays course rated as level 2 which is more undulating than hilly0

Done it now - signed up for next weeks Keswick Mountain Marathon sportive - blurb says:
The main route comprises the passes of Whinlatter, Newlands & Honister each climbed twice & from a different direction. This is a very demanding route with little recovery between the climbs.
There are three routes to choose from:
1 - 105k/65m 3,140m/10,300' 6 passes
2 - 90k/56m 2,700m/8,860' 4 passes
3 - 46k/28m 1,290m/4,230 2 passes
Obviously I had to book the 6 passes.....
And, for the following week, the Richmond 5 Dales -
The 5 Dale 100. 5 Dales, 100 miles and 6 major ascents. A serious proposition, with the 2 hardest ascents near the end of the ride. 1 in 3 max with 3 of the hardest ascents in the Dales.
Hope I don't regret it. I think for these, I'll be taking the Dawes and stripping the rack and mudguards from it. At least I'll know at the end if next years Fred Whitton is on the cards.....Faster than a tent.......0 -
Black rat....done

cycle home from black rat...hardwork :?
Had a good day, was really cold wet and windswept for the first few hours but started defrosting after 1st food stop. Boy were the hills steep!
legs ache now
think I did somewhere around 6hr 13 so just sneaked a silver so pretty happy with that, and rear hub bearings seem to be very stiff now, wheel not spinning...time to take it apart again
