It was indeed - they were on fire. I was expecting lasers and projections like the Rush gig and instead sot a stripped down, dirty rock 'n' roll show that was deafening. They were a bit poor on the Ceremony tour in 1991 though (playing the G-Mex didn't help).

That 2nd Rush gig wasn't at the MEN in '07 by any chance, Snakes & Arrows Tour?

Great gig. 1st time I'd seen them and hugely jealous of anyone seeing them in their peak 70s/80s years. Was hoping they'd play a little more of their really old stuff - Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, 2112 as that was my 'Rush Era'. But it was still a terrific concert and really enjoyed it.
Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

That was the one, yeah. It was a bit of a let-down as far as 'play some old ones' was concerned but I guess when you've been touring for 35 years the chance to play something new and different it just too tempting! I had a great time - rekindled my interest in them and I bought a big stack of the remastered albums.
  • Mmmmm, very tricky!

Ones that jump out are Janes Addiction in 2002/3, Faith No More in 1997, Robert Plant in 2006 and Living Colour a few years ago.

I would however give anything to take a step back in time and see the Ramones.

    In no particular order -

Brian Wilson, RFH 2004 - Infamous lost Beach Boys album 'Smile' gets played in its entirety. Grown men weep.

Rush, NEC, 1988 - Bloke takes his son to his first ever gig. Kid is around 30 years younger than everyone else (incidentally I turned the tables a couple of years ago and took me Dad to see Rush - there were kids everywhere!)

The Cult, manchester Apollo, 1989 - Bloke takes his son to his second ever gig. Twenty years later it is still the most rock 'n' roll thing I've ever seen.

J Spaceman (Jason Pierce), Lowry, 2006(?) - Spiritualized frontman takes to stage with three peice gospel choir, acousic guitar, pianist and a string quartet. Grown men weep.

That Jason Pierce gig sounds like I need to make a way of time travel, Im getting tingly thinking about it. I would weep. I saw the Cult in 1986, first gig too.

Yeah, keep an eye out - I think he's done a few similar gigs over the years and may do so again. It was just after he nearly died so it was an emotional night anyway. He didn’t speak, barely looked up - just cracked a vague smile when someone shouted ‘We love you, Jason’ - but he was in fine voice. The first gig I took my girlfriend to as well - she didn't really know any Spiritualized but came anyway and was totally converted (“You really do have good taste in music, don’t you?”). I knew we’d work as a couple after that!
