  • Cricket . . . . zzzzz

Probably the most irrelevant sport imaginable up here in Scotland, although you're probably right.

I don't think flintoff will win it .team players don't win SPOTY as often as individual sportsmen/women.

Darts can't be a sport IMO.
How can it be classed as a sport if you can be a chain-smoking, obese, heart-attack-waiting-to-happen and yet still be classed as an 'athlete'??

It's a game, just like snooker, bowls and dominoes.

    +1.

Along with golf, they're not sports. They're games. On the same level as monopoly and scrabble.

Sport - an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition

So just regular old riding isn't a sport until you try to go faster or further then you did last time, or beat someone up a hill.
  • There does seem to be a pecking order when it comes to this title - Football, Rugby, Athletics, Cricket & Motor Sports seem to be the blue ribboned events as far as the UK public are concerned

The Beijing Olympics pushed cycling & swimming forwards but in the non Olympic years you can forget about these.

Peaty will get a mention as will all our other world champs but I think he's got more change of a Knighthood than he has of making the top 3

Darts takes athleticism to new levels. Do you realise how far you walk during an average game? Not just the board and back, but the bar and back. And you have to carry pints too.

Just look at that! Precision at the oche - tungsten in one hand, fag finely balanced in tother. Jocky was a true sportsman.

Not all sportsmen are athletes. Archery? Golf? Monster Truck racing?

My money is on Jessica Ennis and she would be a worthy winner. Would love to see Peaty get a decent feature on the night at least however.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

what are the actual requirements for SPotY?

Do you just have to be really good at your chosen discipline or does your personality really have a say in it?

If so then I think Peaty deserves it more than others. eg I love F1 but don't think Jenson should win it. I just think Peaty has done more to deserve the prize and is a real people 's champion.
