Embarassing and scary situation.... Male members please read

if they write to you I wouldn't worry that much, but do follow it up!
Its when they ring and get you an appointment as soon as they can that you should start to worry.0 -
This is scary but more common than you'd think. Probably nothing to worry about, just a bit of trauma to the prostate. If it does happen again I'd definately get it checked out.
Cancer doesn't just happen once. It comes on and then gets worse, a one off incident is unlikely to be anything nasty.
If you've any worries see your GP who'll dip your urine and may well examine you.Arrrrr I be in Devon.0 -
That was pretty late advice, I'm a male GP and have seen this a few times in my short career so far. Like I said if it was a one off then likely nothing. Never been anything untoward for my patients. If happened moe than once I'd worry. Don't know your age or if you check you testes.Arrrrr I be in Devon.0

Motdoc - It is a once off, but then i have not been many miles on my road bike since due to having a few probs with it... am heading out on fri for a long ride so will know for sure.
Im 27 and my girl/f regulary checks my testes! But the Doc did check wm out and all was ok.
Im sure the Urology dept are just making sure.... but almost 6000 people have read this and never had it, thats why I was a little more worried!!0 -
well just an update for any one wishing to know, havig to wait until nov/dec before I can be seen, great!!
However, I was out the other day, rode 9 miles to my mates house, had a a drink and then headed out again. After about 2 miles I could not sit down. When ever i did it felt like some one was poking a hot poking thing right down my bits!!! had to bike 10 miles standing up which I was surprised was a lot more harder!
Got home and same thing had happened... some clear stuff and then blood... a fair bit more this time as well. So appears it was not a once off after all.
Not happy as about to purchase a new Obrea bike and really wanted to get some miles down in training for next years ride!!!
Oh well, im still alive!0 -
Of course we wish to know mate.
The waiting must be awful

A couple of years ago i passed blood in my urine.Boy does it sting, very uncomfortable. Then about a week later it happened again. So off i went to see the doc.She reffered me to the urology dept at the local hospital. So a couple of weeks later i went to get it checked out.Turned out to be two tumors in my bladder the uroligist mentioned the C word-Blimey really knocks you back when you here that.Anyway two weeks after that i had the tumors removed.Turned out they were benign. So in the end it was'nt serious at all.And was'nt bike related either-relief.
It does'nt sound like they think your problem is too bad or you would've been checked out sooner.I would've thought.TT photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/steverob/0 -
Airwave... My Doc didnt really know any thing about it.... just waiting on teh appt to come through.
Could you feel these tumours or any thing? Did it happen all the time or only when on your bike like me?
Flasheart... cheers dude!0 -
Never had an accident like that. I would talk to a doctor.0
-
No you would'nt be able to feel the same tumors i had.Only knew thats what is was when i had a fibre optic type camera inserted in the one place you would'nt want it inserted-yes it makes your eyes water even with a numbing gel.As the tumors were in my bladder it was'nt bike related.Of course i did'nt know that when i first passed blood.
So i would think if your passing blood as a result of a particular ride, then it's unlikely it would be the same cause as it was for me.Still you want to find the cause.Hope you get it sorted quickly.TT photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/steverob/0 -
if it was anything serious they would have had you in to see a consultant within 14 days, i hope you are ok i am pretty sure everything will be ok! if you are still worried go private it is not as expensive as you think and you cannot put a price on peace of mind!0
-
Well my Doc who i spoke to said she didnt really know and would talk to the specialist.. they then just sent me details on how to make an appointment and have not been able to book one yet.. but will be nov/dec.
Great... so when i do go I might have a CCTV camera stuffed down me jap eye!! sounds fun!!
Well hope it nothing that stops me from riding.... I dont think it could be the BIg C... better not be any way im only 27!!0 -
I'm not a doctor, but it sounds to me as though your prostate is not getting on with your saddle.
Pain or numbness (which someone else mentioned in here) of any kind in your genitals or crotch is not normal, and should not be ignored. It is an indication that your saddle is putting too much pressure on your perineum.
I don't want to get into the debate about the alleged link between cycling and prostate/sexual health problems, because I know it's a sensitive subject, but I will say that the narrow, sexy looking saddles on road bikes do not get on with my undercarriage. Any more than 10 miles, and I get pain, and serious numbness. I'm not prepared to ignore this, so I now have a big, wide, ugly saddle on my bike which I can actually fit my arse onto, so all my weight is not being supported on the soft tissue between my legs.
I can't comment on whether the problem is completely gone away, as I haven't had a good long ride on it yet, but lots of people have good things to say about it.

i see what your saying Onan... its just odd that I could do over 250 miles on this bike and never have a problem, then i do 9 and have this prob.... then go out and do some more biking then do another 9 miler and have the prob again??
Will wait and see hey.
Thanks every one for your support and inout though0 -
Good luck, and I hope you can get back to riding soon.Drink poison. Wrestle snakes.0

Very best wishes to you.
I was struggling a bit with numbness and continually having to pee until I got one of these saddles http://www.smpsaddle.co.uk/ They are expensive but worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

Good luck fella. I'm keen to hear what they say.0

Well just a little update....
Still waiting on the hosp appt!!
But went for a small ride the other day, only 9 miles... Had a little discomfort and a very small amount of blood... so this is definatly connected to riding i feel... my worry is now... Will I be able to ride again?
Do you think one of the seats with the pressure releif holes in it would help? Found one on Wiggle for about £15, thinking might be an idea to try... cant do any worse really!0 -
I would wait for the doctors opinion on that before splashign any cash mate!0
-
I doubt you will be told to not ride again, if anything you may need to change riding position or get a more comfortable saddle but any major health problem will get addressed once they have found out the culprit. As mentioned earlier if it was anything severe then you would be rushed in pronto, try not to stress and lets hope the problem will clear up fast enough for you to get out riding asap!0

Cheers dude0

Grr, now having to wait until April for this as due to the bad weather i missed my appt and so did many other people meaning the next free one is in April... I hope it is not any thing life threatning!!!0
-
Jeezzz the good ol' NHS eh? You condition needs a second opinion and sooner the better I reckon ...0
-
I will let them off a little seeing as the world did come to a stand still when we had that snow... but it is a little bit much to ask seeing as i first started all this back in Oct/Nov so will almost be 6 months!0
-
Can you not go into a walk-in centre and get a diagnosis that way? They're usually quite near the main hospital. Just a thought.0
-
Bollocks to waiting until April (no pun intended). I don't know how but somehow you need to push for this to be investigated. If it is something serious, and i sincerely hope it isn't, it needs to be sorted asap. This is not a time to be complacent....
All the best0 -
Just picked this thread up , and I'd deffo agree . Demand to be seen, and now.0
-
Well i have tried but they say the waiting list is periodical (SP) wat eva they mean by that!!!0
