I was knocked off last night

Cycling home last night I obviously was in an 'incident': I woke up last night in Dartford hospital with two black eyes, numerous cuts around my face, several deep cuts to my lips, which have been stitched on both the inside and the outside, a probable dislocated shoulder and badly bruised ribs.

I have absolutely no idea what happened; the only information the police have given me so far is that it was a Toyota people carrier that was involved, but there are either no further details or they're not willing to give them to me yet. I have a few snatched memories of the ride home and the police were good enough to tell me where and when the accident happened.

The Madone is still with the police, who knows what state she is in, my helmet is also with the police I assume, my sun specs are in shards, and at the hospital they cut off my London Phoenix jersey, cut the shoulder straps on my bibshorts and cut off my baggies as well.

Am very stiff and sore today after spending the night in hospital, the aches are really starting to set in now.

Ooh jeez hope the mad one is ok, glad your not more seriously injured - I'm always wary of toyota people carriers, they seem to be driven by people with similar skills to my cat.

    Get well soon.

  • Ouch, that's not good. Must be scary for you to have that period where you can't remember anything. Do you know the location or time of the incident incase anyone on here saw anything (unlikely I know but worth the go)

I hope there's not permanent damage and you're back on the bike soon.

Gosh Rich, that sounds awful. And I know you must be in a lot of pain and pretty peed off, but I can't help feeling glad you're going to be okay!

Take care and see you soon!

That's a good idea, especially as one of the vague memories I have of the ride is of quite a fast cyclist, quite tall, in his mid-twenties behind me at some point on that road. The incident was on Station Road, Southfleet between 7-7.30pm.

Thanks for the best wishes, I'll let you know how the Mad One is when I get her back.

He's not - I'm posting on his behalf. But I am clearing what I've typed with him before I hit submit.

But he'll be OK - at the moment, though, he's very, very sore and achey.

Ouch, guessing I might have to wish you your pint at a distance rather than buying you a cold one in Bristol... Hope you mend well!

    Hey Rich that's horrendous.

Sounds like the police have the person responsible hopefully. Being hit from behind is awful if that is what happened. Suffered the same myself but wasn't knocked spark out.

    Get well soon.
  • Rich158,

Blimey Rich that all sounds a bit nasty. Good to hear you're at least in one piece.

I'm not one to recklessly apportion blame in circumstances such as these, but I think it's safe to assume the car was probably taking evasive action to avoid an errant motorcycle.

    Horrific news!

Glad to hear you are on the mend, keep us updated with the details of your recovery and any developments with the police (including your bike - why won't they let you know the details, if they know its a Toyota perhaps they had witnesses after all someone would have had to call them/ambulance to get you to the hospital).

Hope all is well, get well soon, if you need anything, any support, advice let us know!
