I drive an Audi A4 Avant S line, does that make me a pr1ck??

Is it not not the driver that affects the car??

    Am I still a pr1ck when i drive my wifes battered 206??
You drive a flash Audi and your wife has a knackered old banger? Of course I won't attempt to answer your question...

She actually drives my company car more than i do as at weekends as I would prefer to drive or go on my bike.!!

  • Surf Matt, +1 about the Rolex thing, I would always have an ebel (if I could afford such a thing) over a 2nd car salesmans watch.

I have owned my 156 since 2001 and have only had to replace the battery once in that time. It has other than that never let me down in 8 years, I dont call that unreliable at all :? .

Hideous torque steer? Slow down a bit and smell the roses :P . Contrived? Er, yeah, Alfa contrived to make them look pretty 8) . "E90 M3/AMG Merc/Audi A4 looks about a billion times nicer". Stop sniffing surf board glue Matt  My mate has a brand spanking new 335, it goes like a effing rocket, but looks like it was designed by an old lady.

    **Opens door, saunters in.

Pulls up a chair and starts to listen....

    Shoot, shoot, shoot.

I've wandered in to the Top Gear forum.

    Let me out.

    LET ME OOOOUUUUUTTTTTT....

    I'll get my coat.
  • C'mon boys, What's with all the car and watch comparisons about on a cycling forum? There's a little too much school yard " Yeah, an' my dad's bigger n' your dad" stuff going on.

Might go over to the Women's forum. At least they talk about the really important stuff, like..like, post-holiday bum. :D

For the record, had VW Golfs (mk1 & 2 GTi, VR6, etc) BMW 3,4 & 5 series, Audi A4-6, not had a merc, had a Saab 9-3 Turbo and 2 Alfas. The Saab and Alfa's p****d all over the above mentioned other vehicles. I'd like to lay the Alfa 'unreliable' problem to rest as my 147 has NEVER had a problem unlike my mate new BMW (£52,000 brand new) which imploded after a month (timing chain snapped totalling the engine) - yeah BMW are reliable and as for Audi - ha ha ha ha ha. Driven by arseholes.

    But this isn't Top Gear, a car's a car, it's get you from A-B. I'd much prefer a bike.

...and annihilate any FWD gay Alfa? They are joke cars nowadays. A shame because they (liek Saabs before GM took them over too) used to be good.

Aggie - who the hell are you? A fellow Cornishman, a fellow cyclist, a fellow surfer yet a bloody ar5ey lump of hard work. Have I upset you in the past? Do you want me to find out who you are? Put a lid on it - I and many others think flashy watches are pointless. It's called an opinion and everyone is allowed one. Like thinking Alfas are cr4p. I'd rather have a Ford or a Vauxhall.

Nicky - nicely done. All M cars (except maybe the new M SUVs...) are great!

Its okay Matt, FWD is plainly wrong, however the (pre GM) 3.0 V6 in my GTV is my raison d'etre.

Well I've surfed in a semi final with fellow Geordie Sam Lamiroy... And am receiving pro level coaching.

But if it makes you happy, I suck at surfing. My avatar is just made up.

Alfablue - that was a proper Alfa, before they got GM-erised.

If you re-read my original post, you will see I was simply explaining, in reply to your post, why some people might buy expensive watches. Whether you, me or anyone else think they are pointless is irrelevant. I seem to recall someone once saying "It's called an opinion and everyone is allowed one"

If you could expand on this sentence for me, " Do you want me to find out who you are?", I'd be most obliged.

I find the nastiest of internet snipers try and hide behind a facade. You seem to revel in having a bit of a pop at me (like your first post having a go at me) - well a quick look through your posts makes it easy to find out who you are. So carry on having pops at me but don't think you're anonymous.

Im decent too and have only partaken in some banter, I agreed with you about the Rolex thing. Ok I suggested that you might inhale fumes from adhesives but I was only kidding hence the winky face. Or is it just because my Alfa is FWD  . When Im rich Im going to buy a Giulia, a GT Junior or a GT Veloce.

All of which are RWD and neither of which will start in the morning  .

Stewie - it was only car banter. I do the very same with my best mates (in real life...!)!

Nice choice of classics there - there are some older school Alfas that rock. A real shame Lancias stopped being imported too - although my Dad had a brand new Beta Turbo a while back - rusty on delivery and on it's third engine after 18 months. He lost a lot of money on it - doh!

Oh and I used to build little model kits when I was younger - so have probably inadvertently inhaled a lot of glue fumes. In fact after a long "seesion" building whatever 1/24 scale car or 1/48 scale plane, I often used to feel pretty odd...

You had a narrow escape and I hope you have learnt your lesson - on no account ever go cycling on a motorway again, especially in the fast lane.

Well I presume you were cycling, it's not as if this is a motoring forum so you must have been cycling.

I have "inadvertently" sniffed more fumes that you, I made more Spits and Bf 109s when I was a kid than all of you put together (where is the c0ck swinging emoticon?).

I bet Surf-Matt thinks the Bf 109 is prettier than the Spitfire

Excuse me! The Spitfire is an absolute classic. The Bf109 was a square winged minger. Even the less loved Hurricance was a thing of beauty.

Germans make nice cars but they made cr4p aircraft in the wars.

I made cars and modern jets. Plus tanks. And helicopters. Far too many hours wasted and now all the models (dry brushed, wet brushed and everything) have all been binned -doh!

Good to have my long-held theory that Audi have overtaken BMW as the car of choice for bad drivers endorsed. And Audi estates seem to be reserved for the very worst.

And it's not just when cycling. When I'm on foot or in the car and some **** tries to wipe me out by doing something stupid selfish and dangerous- it's invariably an Audi. Except when it's a small Peugot or Volvo (still a hardy perennial).

Most Audi drivers behave as if they are trying to compensate for some kind of inadequacy. I wonder what it could be?

    Matt,

I don't think you've got very far in your campaign to improve the reputation of bimmer drivers in this thread :D

(disclosure: I drive a 535d touring although the missus drives it more than me as I commute by bike)

BTW - which Alfa's are built on GM chassis?

jedster - I know I know but if people are going to make stupid and incorrect statements then it is my "duty" to club them to death with facts.

All but the Brera and 8C AFAIK.

Their 1.9 150bhp diesel is the very same as the one (Fiat sourced GM block) I had in my Astra and appears in the Saab 9-3 TiD - except the Astra gets more torque than the Alfa and Saab versions . So much for "sporty..."
