Just out of interest, how is it that you know the reason he didn't attend was that he couldn't be bothered?

Regardless of how long "Team Radioshack" lasts, the company has already gotten more publicity than it has in decades.

I forgot it existed -- selling junk and batteries. They have already won.

I always believed LA (and I can't stand him) when he said that he missed it --the bike/ the racing.

I would think that his competitive drive would transfer to trying to build a dominate team for the long-term. Now it is true that that is easy to do when you simply lift the Disco/Astana core. It would be interesting to see if he has an eye for winning talent -- not just bottle carriers who pull like madmen.

This may also help explain why Vaughters would take a long look at AC. The fact that LA took Taylor Phinney has to burn Vaughters @ss.

My 100th post -- cue the band.

Maybe I was being a tad flippant. He was actually attending a dinner with executives from Radio Shack. So while his current team-mates were celebrating their success, Armstrong was busy setting up a rival team.

When he came out with the "no 'I' in team" quip, which team was he referring to?

There's no "i" in team, and there's no "AC" in "RadioShack" *

If, as is seemingly the case, they both dislike each other, why would LA attend? I
don't go to to many parties for people I don't get along with. How about you?

I only go to parties for people I don't like.

May as well ruin their evenings by attending.

It'd be a disaster if Andy were curtailed - good to have a rivalry in sport - would be boring if it were just Contador at the top.

    So has everybody else.

If he joins shacky then he can continue to ride in the US on A, but the team would be counted out of the TDF.

    Edit.
On reflection and having seen the Parcours of the 2009 TDF.
Then perhaps he has the ASO in his pocket also. Allegedly.

also re the AC thanks thing, Zubeldia has said he went round and thanked people in the evening after each stage. It just wasnt twittered for the attending twatters.

Yep, just read a spanish link for that too. I guess for Armstrong's sake, if it wasn't twittered, it didnt happen.

As for Contador not thanking his teammates, I find that incredibly hard to believe, considering Alberto's personality and his past behaviour. Heck, judging by the amount of backslapping, hi-fives, hugs and chest pumping usually present at victory parties, Im sure that was the least that was shared.

But how would LA know since he wasnt there, being the selfish megalomaniac he is.

They couldn't say anything different until September even if they wanted to!

Cyclingfans was saying yesterday that RadioShack especially and maybe the Schlecks could be in the trouble with the UCI for talking about it before Sept 1st.

Is this a new thing for this year, 'cos I remember in the last few years, deals were traditionally done and announced at the Tour. For example, Steegmans announced he was going to Katusha around the time of the Tour then won the final stage.

You can discuss it as long as it's agreed.

But not names? Scott Sunderland on Sunday wasn't mentioning any names, he said they had to wait until September

Isn't the rule that teams can't announce who they've signed, but riders are free to do so?

Ah right that would make sense.

For example, Wiggins could say that he's leaving Garmin for Sky, but Sky can't say "We've signed Wiggins" until September 1st.

Brothers Franck and Andy Schleck's agent stated that there are no contacts regarding the brothers joining Lance Armstrong's new RadioShack team. He said these rumours were originated by the texan as part of a strategy to destabilize Alberto Contador.
"There is no chance that that is going to happen. I've had no contact with Bruyneel. It is only a strategy to make Contador loose next year", said to "L'Équipe" Giovanni Lombardi, personal agent for both brothers.
"Andy has clearly seen everything Alberto Contador has lived through in this Tour, and no one can imagine he is going to get into all that knowing what his ambitions are for next year", said Lombardi.

One thing is guaranteed - the team will be riding Treks and have SRAM components. Lance has a 4% stake in SRAM and a lifetime contract with Trek. Lance's Lions can get yours early for $9k:
