  • Have faith. There's nowt better than a cameo performance from the tailenders. Top edges and knicks flying for 4. 30 odd runs. Grumpy Ponting. Then 2 quick wickets before lunch.

    Here's hoping.

425 all out, hope Anderson can get some movement in the air. It looks out of my office window like good swinging weather. As you say 2 out before lunch and the garden will be rosy again.

Thats Johnson and Ponting smelling the flahs is it not? Harmys figures v Notts today; 12.3 overs 4 Maidens 20 runs conceded 6 wickets with an economy of 1.60 and he isnt playing for England today because?

Yes I was praying for rain in the first test! But today I hope the rain holds off? Funny how things change from one test to the next? Any comments from our fellow assuie forum users???

  • Shall we sing a song for you?

    1-0 to the Ing-er-land.

Is Ricky going back to Leicester for a re-think?

Has anyone woken the members up to tell them it's over?

A considerably closer finish than I'd at first anticipated yesterday afternoon, but a massive relief after the draw at Cardiff.

It should be 1 all, not 1 0 to us  Leave the Members alone, God love em. I get to sit in the Warner Stand due to mates being Members, no queuing for a jug of Pimms or a pee for us 8) .

The members are indeed an amazing breed. They absorb cricket from the atmosphere. They can sleep through an entire session and still tell you accurately what each delivery did, how the field was set to each batsman and what the final outcome will be.

I heard one assuie commentator say: "Cricket is the number one sport in Austrailia."
They must be really hurting. bobtbuilder, Bubly, El Imbatido & Firecrakka anything to say?

Am sure they pass some comments about the umpiring once they have finished drowning their sorrows with the 4 x larger.

Haha, after not winning there since 1934. Now you are going to act the hero?
Full credit to England, they played very well and deserved to win.
Flintoff is a great player and seems to be a very humble and respectful man also.
Maybe you should take note. :p

But again, whats the overall record between us at at Lords again?
England have held victory for 5 days, long way to go before you beat our 75 year reign in YOUR backyard Zedders. Haha.

Plus, there is a long way to go in the overall test my friend.
Have you heard the phrase "Don't count your chickens..." ?

    Do you mean this one?
    Stories behind Famous Sayings

The Saying: DON'T COUNT YOUR CHOOKS BEFORE THEY ARE HATCHED.

    Who Said It: Aesop

    When: c. 570 B.C.

The Story behind It: This saying occurs in the fable "The Barmaid and Her Billy." Kylie, a convict's daughter, is daydreaming as she walks to town with a Billy of creak water balanced on her head. Her thoughts: "The water in this Billy will do for making ice blocks , which I will sell to some galah at Woop Woop market, and buy a dozen eggs, which will hatch into chooks, which will lay more eggs, and soon I shall have a monster chook station in the bush. I'll sell some of the chooks and treat myself to clean grundies and go to the fair, and when the root rats try to have the naughty with my Mappa Tassie, I'll toss my head and tell them to 'rack off ya drongo'. No worries." At that moment, Kylie tossed her head and lost the Billy of water. Her mother admonished, "Strewth you're a dill, don't count your chooks before they hatch."

    Haha, nice one Rev\'d Gatlin.

Aesop was a talented guy. Knowing of the Mappa Tassie in the grundies more then 2200 years before Abel Tasman discovered the island it was named after.
Did he happen to mention anything about race 5 at Newmarket? ;)

Not much of a betting man myself, but if I had to choose I'd go £5 each way on this one.

Yep - it sucks. Totally outplay you at Cardiff and get a draw. Shambolic batting by us at Lords and were one nil down.

Great article on this at The Daily Mash: http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headlines/test-matches-stupid-200907131898/

Article opens with "TEST match cricket was declared stupid last night after England drew with Australia despite being much, much worse at cricket than them".

    It ain't over yet.

As an Aussie, I have to say that unless England are bowled out cheaply today, the
Ashes will be returning to England.

They arent picked because they can bat. Only 10 and 11 "failed", Broad and Swann did very well I thought.

We need a wicket quickly after lunch, preferably Clarke :) .
