Cancellara instigated the breaks or at least played a big part.

Right, just got in. Can somebody tell me who's trying to do what?

58k out six leaders with 2mins. Peloton in four echelons. Gesink right out the back with two guys after a crash. Boonen flatted so is not with top group. Looks like most of Astana and Colombia made the split.

You sure? I can't tell although velonews said:

So who is in that Cancellara group?
We see Armstrong, Contador, Kloden, Leipheimer, Zubeldia, Wiggins.... Sastre is in there, Vande Velde, too.

These guys are so thick. They can't even do what they are paid for.

Yeah, Eurosport commentary initially said he missed the split, but he didn't.

Astana were driving on the front. I don't know why they would do that if Contador was out the back, even if it meant gapping Menchov. I think that's Wiggins in the 2nd group. Gutted for Boonen, literrally the qorst time to get a puncture.

To be fair to Harmon, he did only have helicopter shots to go from.

So who was hoping to gain what from splitting the bunch? Or did it just happen because of the side winds and the increased pace?

Gesink has a partly dislocated shoulder and is managing to ride!!!!!

My right shoulder used to dislocate repeatedly and the pain is beyond description. How anyone can manage to ride with their shoulder out is beyond me - many, many chapeaux to the man.

Doctor's car pulls up alongside Gesink and he can't hold on to the car in order to be treated. Not looking good.

Is there aything being said about conditions once they turn back northwest and inland? I'm picturing a regroupment on this (less exposed?) section, but maybe not if everyone's drilling it....

I might have to go home, is it on ITV4 red button yet?

Gap to six back up to 1.22! Boonen back on but Gesink is seriously suffering - respect for continuing.

Really looks like the break will stay away as they are slowly pulling away.

1.30 @ 13.5km  They better get cracking if they are going to catch them.

Watching Gesink trying to make it to the finish reminds of exactly why the Tour is the great race it is

Gesink @ 3.15 secs behind the lead. Such a shame for him. He is already 3 mins or so back in GC. I think he might well abandon.

It's going to be a David Millar moment - caught on the line - if they actually DO get caught today.
  • anyone in the lead group challenging for yellow?
