How many bikes do you own?

I have just built myself up a new DMR trailstar and as such my wife has given me a good ear bashing about not needing so many bike!

I have a road bike that use for training, An old Raleigh tourer for the commute to work and I did have an XC race bike and a Huck bike for throwing around in the woods.

I have had to canabolise my two mountain bikes to build up my DMR but the wife is adamant that I go down to 3 bikes.

I used to work in a bike shop and most of the guys that came is had 2 or 3 bikes.

Im just curious how many bikes the rest of you have and if you have the constant wife V's bikes battle?

If it has wheels I'll ride it!!

3 bikes, 19lb XC race bike, oldskool Marin single speed conversion (for shopping trips etc as I can lock it up without thinking it's going to get nicked) & a custom BMX.
If I could justify it & had the space, I'd like a road bike & a full sus as well.
Oh & nearly forgot I also have an almost original spec Diamond back Ascent limited edition mtb at my parents.
I think it's an Ascent anyway but I took the stickers off years ago, it's the black framed one with purple paint flicks, has Shimano DX gearing. Can anyone confirm the model/year for me?

I also worked in a bike shop and went through about 20 bikes in a year. I did have 5 at one stage. Was down to one having sold my salsa 29er, but have just got myself an Allez.
I think you should have a bike for each day of the week and a spare.
    1. Pimp MTB (for racing)
    2. Pimp Road (for same)
    3. Commuter/hack bike
    4. Spare commuter
    5. Pub bike (out of a skip)
    6. Training MTB (for fun)
    7. Training Road
    8. Singlespeed/29er/Cross bike

p.s. My girlfriend still gets the hump about me wanting another bike, but she's getting used to it.
p.p.s. Tell her it's better than gambeling, drinking, etc.

^^^ Sounds like an Ascent - possibly `92 - `93 ish??? I had a Topanga around that year - they did the white with black spangle or a rarer purple which is what i had 8)

I have 1 bike - i only do XC riding so don't really see the need for any more. May build myself a nice light rigid singlespeed at some point for training, but only just finished building the Lobster a few months ago :D

^Cheers, yeah that's what I was thinking but I think I bought it before 93, might have even been 89 or 90.
I've posted on Retro bikes though & I'm sure they will identify it from my description, if not I'll take some pictures later today.
  • 1. Airborne Zepplein Ti road bike: lives in the kitchen or the secure bike shed at work
    2. Gary Fisher Hoo Koo e Koo hardtail MTB: lives in the hall way
    3. Raleigh Spirit MTB (but could just as well be called an anchor) with child seat: only used to take my son out for rides or to go to the shops. Was used for commuting: lives outside and was locked to a drain with a cheap lock that thieving toe-rags cut through but couldn't get away with the bike because it is locked to
    4. Single-speed road bike conversion: lives outside locked to 3 with a good quality lock that the aforementioned theiving toe-rags couldn't cut through although you can see where they tried.
    5. Raleigh Alu road bike in the process of being converted to a time trial bike: lives under the stairs.

3... My Cotic, which is what I ride almost all the time. My Carrera Kraken, which is my spare/parts mule/loan bike, which I do occasionally ride just for a laugh. And my commuter, which is in bits but still counts.

    2.

    Specialized FSRxc Comp 09.
Some fully-rigid late 90s 'mountain bike' (Al Carter is the brand) I use for commuting.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Until recently I had a merlin malt 1 and a merlin malt 4 - sold the malt 1 to raise funds to buy a stumpy FSR - which 2 weeks later was stolen, so now am back to my malt 4. Which although is an AMAZING bike the stumpy was better :(
