140mm of travel? Why oh why that much?!

seems such a shame to have increased the travel, it precludes me from wanting one.

looks as good as a bike can though in my opinion. i like the new shock orientation. will be interesting to see what the alu versions look like.

i wonder if they will increase the epic travel and i would imagine the enduro will be incresed to 160?

The Epic has 100mm of travel and is lighter and more responsive than the outgoing Stumpy with only another 0.78 inches. It makes sense to go up to 140mm travel, it also has slacker seat and head tube.

Yeah, the new 'X frame' Enduro is 160mm

Makes no sense at all to me, too much travel for a lightweight bike like that. The 120mm was a great platform.

so i would imagine the fsr xc will remain as the 120mm platform, the stumpy = 140 and the enduro goes upto 160.

spose it all makes sense in the grand scheme of things.

is the mo going to make it to these shores as a dh machine?

I thought the Stumpy FSR were just better XCs really.

    IMHO shoudl be:

    Epic 100mm or less
FSR XC and Stumpy = 120
    Enduro 140

Bike for everyone there - or go for an SX for bigger shenanigans.

Hmm. Not really though. No longer travel bike. The SX is a pretty heavy bike, maybe they're mixing it up so that the have a longer travel FS without the weight of the SX. kinda makes sense to me.

Oh and IMO.... 100mm FS is fairly pointless. Buy a HT.

    140 is long travel LOL!

IMHO if you need more than that, you need a strong frame.

100mm pointless?! Wow, that crash must have hurt ;-)

Even 50mm will add traction and comfort to some people.

    .

agreed, i would imagine the new fsr xc will recieve the m5 metal for the frame (they have m4 at the mo iirc), basicly they will be the current stumpjumpers, no bad thing.

Yeah, the Spesh trickle down is great, but the fad of adding travel all the time is grating a bit now. Not just spesh of course!

100mm pointless on a FS yes. Not a HT..... you've twisted my words there.

It is not pointless at all on an FS!!!

Well I don't see the attraction. May as well spend the cash on a fully sorted xc HT.

doesnt make much sense to have a lightweight 160-170mm bike, more travel = bigger hits = stronger = heavier.

thats just what the sx is for, the enduro is curently 150mm so is plenty of lightweight longish travel. (although how necesary that is is anyones guess, i like mine though)

and there is plenty of sense in a 100mm fs bike

Possibly to do with what forks are available then? not many 150mm forks about?

If I were to design a range of FS bikes today, would probably have 4 platforms: 90mm, 120mm, 150mm and an adjustable 150-200 for looning on.

Or thereabouts. And maybe a specialist hardnut short travel bike.

could well be, i fitted a 160mm fork to mine and in my opinion is the way the bike should have been out of the factory.

the range to include 100, 120, 140 and 160mm makes good sense to me, looks a goo line up as long as spesh keep a bike at the 120 travel option.

im very much looking forward to some proper pics of the new enduro.

As I have just bought an 09 stumpy fsr comp (really chuffed with it and gorgeous bike imho) thought I would put in my 2p.

The 10 frame and shock design looks the dogs. Part of me a little bit miffed that I didn't wait for the 10, but I got it for the price of the fsr pro so not that upset, and happen to think the 09 is a good looking bike. I think Specialized have got their knickers in a twist with their line up and probably wanted to define each model (fsr, stumpy, pitch, enduro and epic) a bit more clearly, and have used the travel to do that. Personally, 140mm of travel would be more than I needed as I wanted a quick, reliable xc bike on a absolute max budget of c. £1500and the 09 stumpy ticked all the boxes. Not sure I would get that on the 10's.

I think the price point of the new range will be interesting. If the OP's original price of £5,500 is true, that is £1k over the current top of the range S-Works Carbon bike! If the other Stumpjumper range also suffer a price hike I will be more than happy with the deal I got on mine.

What this means for the FSR range I don't know, although not convinced they will get the M5 alloy this year.

im in a similar quandry having just bought the 09 comp only to find out the 2010 version i s a much nicer looking frame (provided the alu ones are also all swoopy and cool looking) but im glad i have the 09 as i dont need a 140mm bike, thats what i have my enduro for.

that said, the new enduro promises to be a lovely looking thing. wonder if it will be fitted with a lyrik and dhx? thats what id do if i was in chrge!!

I can't see why people buy spec bikes, they're a boring ride anyway.

    :P
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

an average of 21mph over 40 miles today on an fsrxc expert, yes very boring, especially when i over took the bmw

Probably won't be in the UK for a couple of years, like the alu Epics which aren't here yet.

I like it, the full sus Stumpys have always been their trail/endurance type bikes. If they can fit 140mm in and still come out with 22lbs I'm all for it. Bit of a do everything bike, I'm sure the shock will have a pretty hefty platform damping setup so you can mash away, much like Specialized generally try to do.

Racey bikes don't need to use short travel, narrow bars and upright forks. Thank god we're working away from that phase. In the right instances I even find my Meta more efficient than my Zaskar, having that much travel really does stop you wasting energy bouncing over every obstance, you can really get into a smooth rhythm.

Sounds like the ultimate marathon bike to me.

Now, where do I get £5500 from... hmm :(

True. Not like Giant, they're well reknown for being the life of the party :|
