Went into Hargorves in Southampton today to try some Unos on. Phoned them in advance to make sure they had some in and was told confidently that they did, just not in every colour, but that was no issue as they could order them in.

Got into the store only to be told that they only had a couple of pairs on Uno's in XXL and they weren't going to be ordering any more in as quite soon only Wiggle are going to be allowed to stock Assos kit!

Could not believe it was an understatement. Not only had they told me less than an hour before that they had them in but now they were telling me the complete opposite. Has anyone else heard of this thing with wiggle becoming the only authorised retailer for Assos soon?

As it goes, the bloke explaine that Uno is the same insert as Mille but the Mille has two more panels and is a better fit, but in his opinion the Uno was all you needed. He also suggeste that a L would fit me as this was my main conern, at 5'9" with a 38" chest but a 34" waist, I'm sort of 'between sizes'. Whats the general consensus here, size L be a good fit? I'm going to order from Ribble tonight I think as they're doing the Uno for £100 this weekend.

Ha, what a load of old c0ck! I know Wiggle sell stuff by the bucketload, but Assos has a very wide distribution across the UK, so why would they tie themselves into an exclusive deal :o :?
I think they were just trying to pull a fast one.

Wiggle's stock levels of Assos have been very poor. So I very very much doubt it.

Yeah, given Assos' breadth of retailers across the UK, I found the assertion that only Wiggle will be stocking them quite strange. Funnily enough, one of the other things I wanted to look at whilst in was various lenses for my Rudy Project Rydons, Hargroves being an authorised stockist apparantly. Except the same guy told me they weren't anymore becuase they just didn't sell or the ones they did have were not the ones that people came in asking for. Don't get me wrong, he sounded genuine but it does make you wonder.

With 'service' like that, is it any wonder people will use their LBS as nothing more than a sizing guide and then buy online?

It's not beyond the realms of possibilty I suppose. Assos do the Lightweight stuff and Wiggle are exclusive for that.

But I can't see Chain Reaction, Ribble, Parkers etc giving that stock line up.

My LBS is a big big stockist of Assos, they carry the whole line and always have each size in. It's dangerous going in in fact.

Did a 115mile sportive in my Assos Uno shorts last week and they were bliss. Any other shorts I have had always give some discomfort over this distance but my Assos were great.

Just one less thing to worry about and worth every penny.

I doubt very much if Assos will be that short sighted!

Excuse my french mate but this is a load of utter bollocks! Blame Hargroves not Assos.

Err, I thought it was quite obvious that I was blaming Hargroves and not Assos? :? My point was that when a supposedly reputable LBS comes out with "utter bollocks" like that then why have any faith in them. I still have perfect faith in Assos though.

Anyway, I have a pair of KMC Missing Link pliers on order from Parkers which they are waiting to come into stock. My unusually switched on wife phoned them up today and asked them to stick a Large Blue pair of Uno's on the same order for me! Bloke told her that the shorts are in stock and the tool will be by tommorrow so I'll have a new pair of Unos by the weekend!

Same size as me except I am 44 in the chest and XL is the best fit for the waist.

I could be wrong but I thought height, or more specifically torso length was the key measurement for Assos? I'm just over 5'11 and take a large. (32" waist)

Just used the F1-Uno on a 100 mile ride - and am very pleased with them. The only problem is the washing bag - it's a bit to big and the shorts came out of it during washing so I'll tie it up with some string next time.

I've never bothered with the wash bag - just make sure they're not put in with any velcro items
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

In the Assos booklet that comes with the shorts the size chart gives you weight aswell as height and chest. If anyone needs to know I could look it up.They also say forget it if you`re a fat bastard,we don`t want you to wear them.Or words to that effect.

    Size chart here:
    http://www.assos.com/en/40/default.aspx

But no mention of weight or even waist! That can't be right?

You have to buy a pair to get the proper size chart, for some reason.

OK they don`t give waist size...

    size Height Weight
    XS 150-159 <60kg
    S 160-169 <70kg
    M 170-179cm <75kg
    L 180-185CM <80kg
    XL 186-190CM <85kg
    XLG 191-195cm+ <90kg
TIR = XLG but wider >90kg

    That`s it

    I'm 75kg and a height of 173cm. Based upon the size chart I should be using a M. However I'm actually using a L. :?

I must be the only person in the world who doesn't get on with these - I have a pair and have only worn them three times ever cause I find them damn irritating, the chamois chafes my legs and the bib chafes my nipples. I keep hoping I'm going to get used to them but so far its not happening.

clanton, everyone is different! Have you tried the Rapha shorts? They have the nicest feeling bib section ever in the history of bikes. (Although I still use Assos...)

TBH I'm not convinced the newer S5 shorts are better than the previous generation - I still prefer the old generation Mille and Uno I have. Still seem far better than others I have tried.

By weight you`re just about a lg and it`s probably best to go by weight.
TBH I`m a little disappointed with them aswell, apparently they are best on long rides.

Although apparently 80 miles is what a long ride is now according to the responses you got before. I consider anything over 3 1/2 hours a long ride myself. Anything up to an 1 1/2 hours a short ride and in between average.

I'm getting more used to my shorts now that I've had them on about half dozen times. Got 50 miles the last day in them before I started feeling uncomfortable. I did notice a little chaffing on one side of the shorts up at top of leg near the groin so from the other responses it seems it might be that my saddle isn't pointed dead straight ahead. Easy to set the saddle flat but really hard to actually tell if it is dead straight down the middle. I usually look down the middle of the saddle from the back and look for the middle of the stem with one eye closed. Anybody another methods. I suppose I know from the shorts which side I'm getting rub from so just knock it a touch the other way.

I've got the medium myself. I'm 75kg and 173cm too but I got the bike shop to sort me out and they do feel comfortable for standing around in

They don't give waist sizes, as it has got very little to do with the sizing of ANY bib shorts. I reckon you should all try Santini's TwistGel shorts. Half the price of Assos and certainly not half the comfort I can assure you. They are MADE in Italy, as opposed to designed in one country and made somewhere else cos it saves a few euros.

Meh, my most expensive Assos shorts were only marginally more expensive than them.....
