Just heading up the first climb from the start. A few riders have broken away but I can't work out exactly who they are yet. :?

Seven riders in the break away: Pietropolli (LPR), Jose Ochoa (SDA), Voeckler (BBO), Capecchi (FUJ), Gavazzi (LAM), Serpa (SDA), Visconti (ISD).

Highest on GC is Visconti at 2.49 followed by Serpa at 3.47.

    Armstrong's expectations for the day:

''Very tough summit finish today. Alpi di suisi. 25k @ 6%. Last 8km are 9%. Hope to stay within 2 mins of the leaders.''

Cyclingnews' expectations for LA for today:

Oh, alright. I'll say it. Lance Armstrong. A favorite for today? Who can say? He was climbing well enough yesterday and only a late-race mechanical kept him from contesting the sprint. But if he were anyone else, just coming back from a surgery in late March, we wouldn't tip him as a contender... but it's Lance!

He'll be picking up a few more of these ''mechanicals'' over the next couple of weeks I should imagine.

Sean Kelly disagrees. Reckons the problem is the legs, not the bike

I have been out of the loop for a few days, has Lance been any good so far in this Giro?

He hasn't done anything of note yet. He was dropped inside the final km of yesterday's stage, but supposedly had a problem with his bike. Today is the big test.

Climb starts now and Liquigas are already stringing it out. Hopefully it'll be more eventful than yesterday.

Yup, five riders from Liquigas on the front (including Basso).

First two thirds of the climb aren't too tough but I'm expecting a few attacks in the last 8km.

Armstrong clinging on to the back of the gruppo for grim death.... he's gonna blow up as soon as someone attacks.

Good to see that LA has three working for him, whilst Levi only gets two.
