She also managed to arrange a trip to Richmond Park....

    Rumbled

(It was actually a real idea, and after blogging it on fetch people suggested I posted here. Who am I to refuse more attention and ego-boosting...; )

Fossyant - I came off the bike in January, and broke the neck of the humerous - displacing it in the process - and fractured my elbow. Was drugged up and in a sling for a month, but have had some physio sessions and in day to day terms I'm pretty much back to normal. I'm back at the fracture clinic next month to see if I need surgery to shave the bone where it was knocked out of position.

I have definitely lost touch with cycling a bit, as I only do the (very short) commute currently.

What hasn't helped the cycling is that I have rediscovered my love of running, and have run four good ultra marathons this month, and have been recording (for me) great times. So I'm much more inclined to race at weekends than pootle on the bike.

But I've committed now. 24th May. I will ride.

    Duh!!!

If Jen was the Flash I think it would be noticable because she would finish the race in record time, what with having access to the speed force.

More likely she is the Hulk of She Hulk with over developed thighs capable of leaping great distances or with real effort achieving escape velocity. Being the Hulk would also explain why she is able to heal so quickly.

But as I think on it I think she's been injected with the Super Soldier serum like Captain America and is at peak human physical condition with a by product of the serum meaning that Jen's body no longer produces fatigue inducing toxins so she doesn't get tired easily. This would explain how she was able to run 4 ultra marathons in 3 weeks.

    Either I'm scared of her....

What we don't realize is that JJ actually has an elaborate rig that lets her type and run at the same time :-) Hence she can run non-stop since the 1st and still post on here!

Mucho respect tho JJ, I just can't get the hang of propelling myself at anything faster then walking pace for long distances without a set of wheels :-)

I have extra space in my garage now what with having recently dropped two bikes from the herd although the TT frame etc was delivered to home this afternoon and I'm stuff in the office sans bike(s) :(

I won't be there on the 24th I will be making up for missing miles this week by cycling 250 miles in 2 days :D whatever the weather

 no, I didn't mean in the month of May, I meant in the last 30 odd days. 4 ultras in 12 days? That would be silly...

    Woohoo! I'm back baby!

Left the bike at work yesterday, so went to collect it today, and decided to take the long way home. Via Richmond Park. 16 miles. I must have been inspired by the comments on here...

First time ever around Richmond Park on a fixie. First time since the crash I've ridden over 4 miles.

The whole thing about my arm aching too much after 3-4 miles? I think that was because it *could* ache after 3-4 miles, as by that point I was almost home. Today, it didn't start to hurt too much until I was almost home.

And I managed to ride all the way around the park, didn't even have to walk the bike up Dark hill like had I had to last time I took the SS there (when it was on a freewheel). And riding up Sawyers Hill was a breeze. Perhaps I'm fitter than I thought...

And having been absolutely terrified about riding down Broomfield Hill on a fixie it was a complete non-event. Apart from the pressure on the brakes, I may as well have been on the flat.

My bike handling skills were noticeably improved since last time I rode around RP. In particular the precision steering - being able to pick a particular strip of tarmac rather than just moving in a general forward direction ;-), riding one handed (both sides) and signalling, which I struggled with a little when I was learning.

Fitness was pretty much fine. I would have done another couple of laps, but was aware of the 7 mile journey back, and that I also have plenty of revision to be getting on with.

So a chunk of confidence is back. But most importantly, I loved every minute.

    The Madone stays.

Also are we still thinking of RP on the 24th? I *might* be able to come along due to a change of plans for anniversary, now taking kids to London Zoo on the Saturday and nothing planned for Sunday yet........I shall tread gingerly around this one!

Ah, but bike fitness is different to run fitness, so I hadn't expected to cope with today.

I'm most definitely up for RP on the 24th. :D

It's strange that isn't it? I think it's why I have so much respect for what triathletes do, they have the fitness to swim, run and bike! For me a 30 mile bike ride is pretty easy but ask me to run a few miles and I'd most likely die :-D

What I find really bizarre is that most of the triathletes I've met dislike the bike so much. An ex colleague I was riding with at the Fred last week pulled out at 96 miles, and her friend came in in 13 hours  I found that astonishing for two people who are supposedly Ironman triathletes, and who can both run a marathon in under 3:30. Then again I can't swim more than 100 metres at a time, and struggle to break 8 minute miles when I run, even though I see an 80 mile bike ride as middle distance and to be attacked so I guess it's all comparative.

Psychologically it would've been perfectly understandable for you to sell up and move on. Instead of which you tried again and appear to have loved it!

The 2 fellas I did the Etape with last year went on to do the UK Ironman. They cam 94th and 95th out of 1148 finishers (including the pros) but said the Eatpe was harder. I found that hard to believe but they were insistent! Must be something in it, they've hardly been on the bike since!

Not fussed. The missus will already be in Turkey so I've got no time commitments to worry about. Christ not pushed myself on the bike since last weds when I started feeling off colour, can't wait to get back on the bike properly!

Well by properly I mean riding more than 3 miles and wearing lycra. I've been pootling in denim since this tues, before that wasn't on the bike at all since last weds.

I've been reminded that this weekend is a bank holiday, and so havimg a bike ride on the Sunday morning is smack in the middle of a long weekend and kind of scuppers any plans of going away.

Would Monday suit instead? 11am at the cafe?
