Sorry, yes, I forget myself. I'll not make the same mistake again.0 -
Hmm - never rowed out of there....I know most clubs from a few seasons of "pot" hunting.....and points gathering that gradually screwed me over (could not commit to train to the level of points I acquired!)
Looks nice though - certainly better than the shed in Brizzle (www.bristolrowing.co.uk)
I am still thinking about my ultimate road bike - Like the idea of a Look frame, but which one?!
Sorry MTNROADIE - keep knackering your thread here....! But rowing is addictive!0 -
and to say that you know more about everything than i do is ridiculous. i bet i know more about tony hawks proving ground than you, and GTA 4, and probably most games/systems
Can I just say, that is satire of a very high order indeed.
Chapeau (or whatever teenage rowers and comuter gamers say)

BTW
We live on the Thames (not literally, in Marlow not a house boat). My next door neighbour has recently threatened to take me out in a scull (well two single sculls IYSWIM).
Having watched people row, it seems to me that sculling might be harder (twice the coordination issues, noone to help you out with balance). Given I've never rowed, is he trying to drown me?

BTW again, straying on topic for a moment, I think I'd have to buy something titanium. Much as I quite like the idea of some carbon race-bred thing, I reckon I might feel a bit self-conscious given my utter lack of racing credentials.
So titanium what? I do like the Ti frame that condor sells. Those lynskey ones that planet x has are beautifully understated. I guess Litespeed is the obvious choice. Some people look down on Litespeed them because they are bought by middle-aged professional types (and I dont mean professional cyclists ... or hookers for that matter) with too much money. The thing is I AM a (at least approaching) middle-aged professional-type and clearly would have too much money post a lottery win - jobsagooden then, surely?

Yes.

Probably - have you annoyed him lately ?0

That's just what I've been asking myself0 -

Ti frames do look gorgeous, but plenty of people look down on them because they're flexy as hell. Never ridden one, so I can't comment personally...0 -

Hmm - I would suggest that he won't take you out in a "fine" boat....probably a TS515 training scull or something like that. Fine boats are a bugger to sit.
Just remember your safety position - both blade out and flat on the water (never, ever ever let go of your blades!!!!!) Keep your thmb over the ends of the grips to push the blade into the gate.
keep your core stable and enjoy!
I am sure your mate will keep you safe - to be honest, I would take you out in a "double scull" - 2 people in one boat. Newbie in the stroke position - teach from bow.
Enjoy it! Great fun in summer - cold wet and miserable in winter!0 -
I learnt to scull in a single, coming from sweep rowing. Don't really scull at all though, or indeed row any more. Too much time taken up with coaching various crews and learn to row courses. 20 hours on the water/river this weekend 8) now a bit sunburnt...
Did have a lot of fun doing the learn to row, taking adaptive athletes out in coxed singles that are more tub sized!!! Really easy for learning.
As for OP question.
Lynksey Helix road bike in the mirror finish
Lynskey LTHT mtb
Some sort of FS mtb or two
Oh and I'd probably buy a bike shop as a hobby, you know what they say, buy a bike shop and make a small fortune out of a large one!0 -

surely a 2- would teach you to sit a boat fastest. other than the fact you have the added incentive of not being killed by whoever you are rowing with if you muck up (that doesn't really make sense but you get the idea).i want one: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Cinel ... orus~Eurus)_2009/5360040482/0 -

if you continue to row there and become a member, please could you get them to give individual pennants or medals or tankards rather than one pennant for the club at the Quintin headi want one: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Cinel ... orus~Eurus)_2009/5360040482/0 -

+1 for the Ti frames.
Wasn't Dave Lynskey the founder of Litespeed?FCN 2-4.

Lynskey, but it would have to be custom made, maybe a cross bike. Would also have a race bike, both road and MTB, maybe an Epic 29er, but I'd want a 26er too.
I'd keep my Salsa 29er...with another set of the Crossmax 29er wheels, Continental Speedking 2.1's 29er tyres...but that's it. Hell, maybe even try 10speed on it.....
Oh and my Langster to,...um,... Campag Record brakes, levers, cranks (175mm length), S-Works 1-piece carbon bars/stem (44cm wide, 100mm stem), S-Works seatpost, Look full carbon forks, Zipp rims, I think the 404's, Custom paintjob in S-Works red or white...It has so many memories this bike, I'd never sell it.
Most importantly, I'd buy a house in Norwich, so I could ride there. Maybe have somewhere around the lakes, so me and friends could stay there and ride. Lots. Also a house in Italy. Just for the fantastic roads and amazing food. Then a house in Devon, for my girlfriend.
Would also have a touring motorbike, a sports bike like the ZX-7R in my local garage, which I swear has my name on it. (Apparently it doesn't though.), do up my CB1 (it's my first bike), maybe a van so I can transport my various bikes around.....
I would also give loads away, and spend the rest enjoying life, doing what is important to me, helping my parents, travelling, etc....
Dunno really, not thought about this one much.jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.

No!!!!!!! A pair is for the experienced only - too easy to drown yourself!!! You are talking about people who don't know their bow from their stern and their stroke from their bow....
Big flat bottomed boat (Like the old version of the Aylings Olympian or the early Empachers) - 4+ or 8+. Juniors up to 16 learn to scull only (keeps their spine straight then!) Used to love seeing octopulls on the river - they are bonkers boat layouts!0 -
A Senna Ducati 916?

+1 Or the FE 998 R, or the MV F4 1000 Senna S or a Desmosedici or an RC45 or an Ow01....Any exotic machinery with a racing pedigree will do!
I can singlehandedly use all the oil in the world!
As for Ti frames, I am not yet convinced.....as I have never ridden one! Can anyone tell me what they are like?0 -

Honda RC30. Or, personal fantasy here, buy a works bike and kit it with the minimum equipment to make it road-legal.
Speak to the boys at Crescent in Ringwood....May sell you one of the old Rizla BSB bokes...My Dad bought en ex team GSXR1000 last season (spare bike), 210 BHP at the back wheel....I have ridden it a couple of times on the road (very illegally) - it is pure violence and way too powerful and stiff for road use. Currently sits on the mezzanine in their pad......!
DDD - if you read this +1 on the Kuota, I am now looking at buying the frameset! Now, where is my credit card?!0 -

Ahh, it's pure fantasy, what I really dream of is one of Mick Doohan's screamers - the chances of finding one, getting it road registered and then surviving a ride on it are about the same as winning the lottery0
