RPCC Ride - 9th / 10th May

Another weekend, another Sportive, another RPCC ride I won't be attending! :(

I'm going up to the Lakes to ride the Fred Whitton, as is Phips, RedGreenBaron & Fuji Mackers so that's 4 of us definitely out. Felgen is also thrashing the Planet-X around Oz this weekend so that's a 5th rider down! Could be short on numbers but I've no doubt Wilf, Al, Bern, Mike & others will be heading out so hopefully you guys can still get a decent crowd sorted for a ride 8)

So, usual meet & ride plan:
 9am is most likely on whichever day is favoured (or both days, if you're feeling up to it!) Richmond Gate in Richmond Park, south side (on the left as you come up Sawyer's Hill / on the right if you come through Richmond Gate), by the little white building  80-120k @ 24-28kph / 50-75 miles @ 15-18mph
usually, but nobody gets dropped
 Boxhill is almost definite (as is a short tea / cake / toilet / bottle refill stop at the top - usually around 15-20mins)
As ever I'd like to emphasise that new faces are more than welcome and actively encouraged, and that applies to lurkers / long-time 'thread watchers' / any who haven't been able to make it along previously / those who don't want to commit on here but might feel like turning up on the day - please do join us if you want to! We seem to have seen a new face almost every week so it'd be good if that continued! :D

A 'collection point' at 9:30am (usually) at Hampton Court will most likely be on the cards as that tends to be the route out. Please let us know if you plan to take this option - it's usually just a fly-by quick hello and on the move again so if you plan to use this option we need to know, and please be on time... That said there can sometimes be delays getting moving at Richmond Park so there is the potential for folk to be running a little late coming through (and apologies in advance if that turns out to be the case)!

So, who is actually about this weekend and when? 8) :D

I am up for a run having spent last weekend off the bike. I need to be home by 2 though as am off to the football.

So with a few up at the Fred and James in Oz, I am willing to fly the flag for the originals but will I be alone?...Al? Mykee? Wilf?

Could be up for this but will have to check with the fixtures secretary... Having a baby kind of puts a limit on how often you can go out for four hour bike rides!

Sounds like you've all been doing some great rides though!

Short ride would also suit me, hmmm, Box Hill and back or possibly a flat, rouler-ride?

Saturday 23rd or 30th would be good for a final pre-Fray Bentos leg destroyer run - 8 hours in the saddle going over every hill in Surrey/Kent?

BH and back sounds good this weekend. Is anyone keen for an earlier start say 8.30??

I am up for a long ride as well in a couple of weeks to see at which point I will be needing the Sweep/Sag wagon at the Fray.

Rich/Wilf/Phips/Others, do any of you have any of the RPCC routes saved anywhere? I have finally splashed out and got myself a Garmin (mainly so I know how far left up one of the climbs at the Fray:)) and want to upload a few routes :)

Ah now I know what tawohipkaismsapstotrtbpotlgttm8mptbu means

I'm a dead cert for Saturday unless I catch bovine flu.

For one ride, we could do a run out to Shere head up hound dog hill (Dave I know you love that one:wink:), and then zig zag to Leith via Peaslake before Box Hill and home.

Good Solid ride, and should be done and dusted by 2 easily if we head out at 8, as looking back on historical rides same said route had total ride time of 5 hours and from memory my climbing capability was a lot slower back then.

Alternatively we could do one of our RPCC winter classics up Crocknorth across Ranmore for a Box Hill sprint. This would let people have a lie in as we could start at 9 no probs.

PS - I'm not even sure I need my Garmin for the Surrey Hills these days, but if you want a frightener Berns i've almost finished mapping QBH ride.

I am up for an 8am start if it means a dead cert finish in time for me to get home in time for the game. I need some climbing time for the Fray.

Miguel called me last night, and he is up for a run- not sure whether you have met him Wilf, but Migs was signed up by Felgen a few weeks back.

To say I am worried is an understatement. I have been looking at the profile every day...the only solace I can find is that half of it is downhill!

    Congratulations Dave

Cheers Rich - it's a whole new world...
For one ride, we could do a run out to Shere head up hound dog hill (Dave I know you love that one:wink:),

Okay, okay... I assume that's the hill that never ends :? Rarely have I been as depressed in the saddle as I was towards the top of that climb.

It looks like I'm good for Saturday (although this could change last minute depending on the amount of sleep we get). I'm also happy to do either route, although depending on how I get on might bale early. I'm putting a fair few miles in my legs but it's all commuting, so I don't know how I'll perform over distance.

Neither will my nice shiny new bike be ready

Invested in a nice and shiny Bottecchia frame from Fat Birds, a reduced SRam rival 2009 groupset and some finishing FSA kit from Planet X... Only problem is my wheels are now bust and I can't find the bearings I need to fix them...

But then I see some Planet X Carbon 50s on offer...

    When will it end

It won't - I have a fitting session next week which I fear will lead to my 4th frameset in a year...

But at least I might finally be comfortable on my bike... whatever it ends up being! :D

4th bike? What size are you Rich? I am thinking of a short-medium project of sourcing a frame and building it up from there. I initially had the Cervelo S2 in mind given my Canadian connections these days, but the R3 could work too...and may take it off your hands if the price/size is right

Its a stupid plan I have, especially in the current economic climate, but hey as Dicky Branson puts it "screw it, let's do it"

It'll be my 4th frame, not bike... although the first 2 had Campag Chorus on them and the R3 started with the Chorus stuff but then evolved into SRAM Red...

It's a 56cm Bern so probably too long for you, although the seat tube centre to centre does only measure 51cm, what with Cervelo's sizing. It's a 56.5cm top tube though.

That's the issue really - I think my legs need a 57cm / 58cm sized back end whilst my torso needs a 55cm / 56cm sized front end, and I'm having to run the max amount of spacers on my forks and tilt my bars back to get a comfortable position. I had a BG Fit session at Sigma in Feb but the feedback said nothing more than my position is "within acceptable boundaries". As I'm now getting pains again I'm going to Barry @ Bespoke for a second opinion (with much more detailed feedback).

Might be a good opportunity to return to the material that originally sparked my forum name and get the Moots I've always dreamed of... :P

Fair enough. I was looking at 51cm frame so as you put it might be a little too long :) If you are thinking of going Ti go for a De Rosa :)
