Burgess Hill Rumble Cyclosportive on the 30th August 2009

Hi TheStone,
It's Harder with a capital H
Although like you say you should be fitter in August than in March.
Basically the Rumble Classic route in August is the same as the Springtime Classic in March except it has an extra 20 odd miles at the top of the circuit which takes in Yorks Hill and Toys Hill.
Have a look at the route which is on routeyou:-
http://www.routeyou.com/route/view/56982/cycling-route-the-burgess-hll-rumble-cyclosportive-30th-august-2009.en
I have added the cob hill location just so you know where it is and can be prepared for it.
Hi Chrissz
Your very sensible.
Cyclosportives are to be enjoyed not destroy you. :!:
You will enjoy the Challenge ride it really is a lovely route and still a good test for the legs, plus you will be able to smile at the Classic riders at the HQ at the finish who may have taken on more than they can chew.
LETS HOPE IT DOESN'T RAIN LIKE LAST YEAR :!:Yours in Sport The SRS Events Team http://twitter.com/srsevents http://www.srs-events.cc http://ontherivet.ning.com0 -
Oh god. I signed up for the challenge as an incentive on my Get Fit programme. Didn't bet on holidays and pig flu (at least I lost weight) taking out most of the last six weeks training before the event. Well, the target is now to beat the broom wagon.0
-
Come on now Steppenherring be positive for all you know the broom wagon driver has been suffering from pig flu too, so you may do better than you think, as he might have real trouble in putting pressure on that gas pedal. Plus you have the advantage of numerous gears to make it easier to press down on the pedals of your bike, he doesn't he still needs to muster the same strength.
I thought the issue of swine flu might be an issue for our riders entering the Rumble events so I set the task for our scientific branch of SRS Events to studying the phenomenon of swine flu and come up with a cure or at least an alternative to tamiflu to reverse the symptoms of this debilitating and potential dangerous illness resulting in the inability to produce good cadence while on the bike.
I have to say I am amazed by the performance of the SRS Events scientific team as they came up with the answer to this illness very quickly, they recommend plenty of bacon butties before the start of the ride. The scientific team point out that for years now people in the UK have been turning away from the humble bacon butty to start their day. This has resulted in an inability for many to build resistance to the H1N1 illness that pigs carry. Supposedly so the scientific team tell me, swine flu is very common and has always been with us, it's just the media have picked up on the h1n1 story and running with it for as long as they can, while they wait for more leaks on Politicians expense claims.
Of course as an organiser of events the silver lining is that I managed to get some really cheap bacon at the Sunday car boot the other day so I am happy to be helping all the riders of the Rumble to be building there immune system on the 30th of August. Just follow the smell of the cooking bacon at the start and finish area and consume as many of the butties as you can and wash them all down with some coffee also bought at the car boot and you will never be a broom wagon attendee on this rumble ride.
I hope to get enough bacon to stock the feed stations out on the rides as well, and If my plan to catch the swine flu virus myself works I will go to a supermarket, join customer returns que with a large quantity of bacon and claim that I have swine flu from their stock via the method of screaming and sneezing seen in so many victims of the H1N1 bug. Before they evacuate and get rid of their poison bacon, I will kindly offer to take some of it off their hands.
Now all I have to do is think how I am going to help the vegetarians riding the Rumble. They may have to rely on the ample supply of SIS energy drink available on our events rather than humble but filling Bacon Butty.Yours in Sport The SRS Events Team http://twitter.com/srsevents http://www.srs-events.cc http://ontherivet.ning.com0 -
Bacon butties - mmmm
Who needs power gels, hyper/hypotonic sports drinks and rabbit food bars when there's a plentiful supply of one of the greatest foodstuffs ever invented?
The ideal way to start a Sunday ride :!:0 -
Just to let you all know.
All the tea stops are in Village halls just incase it does rain and people need to shelter for a while to stock up on the food and drink available.
Obviously these will have toilets so no need for taking a natural break on the road side if you don't want to.
Thanks to one of our sponsors Progressive Cycle Coaching who have helped with the setting up of these Feed stations.

just wondering; why are most of the photos on the website of the TdF when most of the ride is in Mid Sussex? surely our scenery is much nicer?0
-
Hi Zoomcp,
Well the photography of the Tour is mine as I am a photojournalist
http://photoshelter.com/c/rupertrivett (still updating this website)
And we didn't have photos of local cycling in the routes area when we were putting the website together.
Your right though the scenery is lovely in Mid Sussex, a little bit of this scenery can be seen on our video of our March event the Burgess Hill Springtime Classic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgannpS7E98
The route goes through some very scenic areas of Ashdown Forest and the Weald area in general, and if the sun is shining (cross fingers) riders will love the beauty of the route, although some might be wishing they had an anti gravity belt fitted.
Our website for 2010 will have more photography to show the beauty of the area and more cyclosportive type images within it.
If there are any photographers that would like their images of our event displayed on our future website/s with a link to their website they should contact myself at srs.events@ntlworld.com
If I am not too busy on the day (which I probably will be) I will get some images of the event myself and some of the very scenic areas of the route.
As for pictures of the riders riding George Burgess is our official photographer for the event, well with a surname like that he had to be our photographer his website can be seen here, http://www.georgeburgessphotography.com/sports.php
And here is a more direct link to the photos he took at our Burgess Hill Springtime Classic event held in March:-

Get him (or her) to do it on-line mate - snail mail won't make it in time0 -
Is there anyone else doing the Challenge route who might be aiming for a silver and is willing to team up? Yes, I might blow completely and I'm slow uphill, but I have a weight advantage on the descents. I wont get stroppy if you decide to leave me gasping by the roadside.0

What time/Av does Silver equate to?
I've not worked out what time I'll be going for yet but I'd hope to cover the 65m Challenge route at around 17 - 19 mph.0 -
gosh that's fast  ---- you will hardly have any time to enjoy the views at that speed but maybe views aren't your thing. Maybe the sound of the zing of your high pressured tyres whizzing along the tarmac is more your thing.
stanards are on the riders page http://www.srs-events.cc/burgess_hill2/riders.htm

Chrissz: If I give you a fig roll, can I draft you all the way round?0

SteppenHerring wrote:Chrissz: If I give you a fig roll, can I draft you all the way round?
I am now slightly concerned :!: :!:
Please feel free to draft as much as you like (so long as you can tell me how many teeth I have on my cassette at the end I'm happy ), although you may have to shove your way to the front at the hills.
What does concern me is how you know fig rolls are my favorite bikkies (except for hazelnut Boasters)0 -
Sorry I ate all the fig rolls myself.
That was my first sportive. At 30 miles, I felt like superman, at 55 miles I wanted to die and then at 63 miles it was all OK again. Tough, but fun. Classic next time.
4 hours 14. Silver.0 -
A cracking ride. At 35 I was steaming along happil :)y, by 50 miles I was on the rivet hanging on for grim death .
I guess I went off too fast in the first half - lesson learnt.
Ended up with 3hrs 45min (Gold) and cramp in my sartorius (leg muscle) at 70+mph on the M23 :shock:0 -
Are the results and pics gonna be posted up on the website and if so, when :?:0
