Well yes bornagaincycler .........things do get better and better with our events.

Although you will have to ask the riders that rode our March event the Burgess Hill Springtime classic to confirm that.

I won't bore you with all the praises we did receive from people who did enjoy the March event and do look forward to seeing you again in August.

i'm thinking of doing this too but a bit worried about the 11 mph cut off limit I can be slower than this

It really depends on your current ability. The route covers a lot of my regular training roads and I know them like the back of my hand. The hills are short and sharp. Yorks Hill & Cob Lane are both over 20%. The rest of the route is gently undulating. The first 15+ miles are some of the easiest, so don't set off too fast.

I`ve entered the Classic 95mile and i would agree with Bobtbuilder it very much depends on your fitness level. If you think you may only be riding at an average of 11mph you may be more comfortable doing the shorter rides of 65miles or 43miles.Bear in mind cycling 95miles means spending possibly 6 to say 8.5hrs in the saddle.I`d say there were half a dozen more challenging climbs on this ride. The first 20 odd miles are fairly flat. The first hill starts after you`ve ridden through a ford iirc.I found by far the hardest hill to be Yorks Hill without a doubt.

    Hi COVENTRY Eagle,
route for the classic is this
    http://www.routeyou.com/route/view/56982/-route-the-burgess-hll-rumble-cyclosportive-30th-august-2009.en

Before I go on and on -- good name! my first racing bike was a coventry eagle.

bobtbuilder an ajcherry are right with their comments.

I would say that It really is better to do the Challenge ride at 65 miles if you don't think that you can do the 95 mile Classic ride with a bit left in the tank.
Saying that though finishing the Classic ride will mean that you have what it takes to do a top notch Cyclosportive in the high mountains of France etc.

Those that did the route last August should be aware of the slight change in the course which has Cob Lane in it.

We used Cob Lane in our Springtime classic event in March and lots of people had to walk up this climb! to the joy of the offical photographer who got a few good shots of exhausted cyclists.

Check the video out on the riders page on our website or click the link here below, you can see some of the people wallking up Cob lane.(mistakenly entitled in the clips as Plaw hatch lane) absolutely no shame in walking up this hill though because it is steep and hard for those with already weak legs. Thankfully there is a feed station stop immediately after the Cob Lane climb.

The Classic route is a tough one and a real achievement for those that finish. It really is about pacing your effort to be able to get around in relative comfort. --- maybe comfort is the wrong word

CLOSING DATE IS THE 16TH AUGUST SO ENTER WHILE THERE ARE STILL PLACES :!:

Cob Lane is as tough as Yorks Hill IMO. What mnakes it harder is that the bottom third of the climb is ALWAYS wet / slimy which can make traction very difficult unless you stay seated, which I struggle to do on 20% climbs!

just one quick question, if we enter the challenge route and feel fairly fit on the day can we carry on and do the full route ? I don't think we can do the full one so we are taking the safer option of the shorter route but you never know how the form is on the day

In fact according to the OS map Cob lane is steeper than 20% where as Yorks Hill there`s a 16% sign at the top, there both of similar length approx 0.4mile.
I think it`s just that i`m much more familar with Cob lane than Yorks Hill and i certainly agree with the lack of traction on Cob Lane at the moment especially with this recent rain, it never seems to dry out as it`s in a deep wooded area and never gets the sun.
As you say your torn between the need to get out of the saddle to physically climb the hill which has the effect of reducing traction. It`s all good fun. :)

    Hi SHERER,

All Riders who enter the Challenge ride (65 miles) can if they feel like it on the day carry on and do the full Burgess Hill Rumble Classic ride (95miles). Also if people have entered the Classic ride and for whatever reason they decided they can't achieve the 95 miles then they can downsize to the Challenge.
For safety reason on the day we do ask that you inform the signing on clerk of your decision to change your ride before you start.
We are using the SPORTident system (a tag which goes on your wrist) so riders will be asked to log in at at least one specific feed station to show which route they did.

More details will be sent out to riders a week before the event.

I hope that answers your question.

NOTE: Tour or kermesse riders wishing to upgrade to longer routes will have to pay the extra cost as paid by the Challenge and Classic riders.

thanks for that. I have entered the 65 mile route and will see how I do on the day. Not sure how the legs will feel.

Think the long route will be beyond me so best to do one I can actually finish.

Looking forward to a good days riding

Both routes contain Rupert's new addition of Cob Lane, so don't forget to "thank" him, as you crawl up it wishing you had MTB gears!

    Enjoy your day!

Same here - although I'm fairly confident I could finish the 95 mile route I fear I would end up too knackered to actually enjoy it.

This will be my first Sportive so it's a test-bed if you like. If all goes well I'll also be entering the Sevenoaks and the Guilford rides in September.

I'm in. Is this one harder or similar to the spring one?
Found that quite hard, but hope I'm in better shape now.
