SCR summer!

Well, redvee's post reminded me of something which had been discussed a couple of times before - an SCR summer meet-up! Now, I do realise it's not actually even May yet, but bearing in mind the sportive season kicking off, and the amount of faffing it took to set up the last one, I figured I'd get in early!

My cunning plan would involve meeting in Richmond, somewhere like the Princes' Head on the green, for example, so that people could enjoy a couple of laps of the park followed by some beer and perhaps food, although I'd envisaged a Saturday or Sunday afternoon thang...

Thoughts?

Oh and I'm joking about the 'french' bit. All are welcome!

EDIT: Don't be put off by the below rantings about 3 lap challenges. Those people are not very good at 'not trying'. The rest of us will be watching with amusement from behind a pint glass, exemplifying the 'not trying' ethic of SCR.

Cool. Is there somewhere to put the bikes at said pub?

Which month? June or July? July best for me. I'd say best done after the Dragon and Highclere events and then, wwwwwwwwweeeellllllllllllllll, it's as good as July. :)

    Yep - count me in.

Brizzle yokels, I can get 3 bikes on my wife's car, so would be happy to give lifts - unless you fancy cycling over there........!

There is a small bike parking set-up outside that pub, and some outside seating. I don't know if they'd allow you onto the green with your pint - maybe some Richmond locals do? I'm open to ideas on venue, don't know Richmond that well.

See street view here - it's the beige building behind the tree.

As for which month, I'd figured July, but will probably set up another poll if lots are interested.

Can we pre-order some sunshine? 8) The Plough is another option - you can get your bikes into the beer garden. Weekends could work for me but we also have the long evenings to look forward so happy to go with the flow... Dragon Ride is 14 June and the King of the Downs is 17 May so neither of those weekends work for me.

Maybe we could have lunch followed by an SCR RP Challenge - 3 laps perhaps - with a handicap system based on the number of pints consumed. 1 pint = 1 minute deducted from the recorded lap time.

In the interests of science, I did a lap on Saturday, retired to the Plough for a cheeky one with the family, and then did 2 more laps. Funnily enough the first lap was 1 minute slower then the earlier one, but by the 3rd one was pretty much back to the earlier time. :)

LiT - looks fine to me.

I'm sure there's a pub at the top of Richmond Hill, about a minute's ride from Richmond Gate, with a great view looking south. There are benches on the other side of the road where people seem to sit avec pint on a nice, sunny day. Don't know anything about the food situation though, or if it's any good. Will check it out now out of curiosity, but yours looks good.

Good point! What did we ever do to you, hmmmm?

Also, if you don't know about SCR, click here and clear your diary for the next week or so...

And you don't have to be an SCR-er - all are very welcome!

I'd better say yes after prompting the reminder.

Well I'm scared of you as well! Just seen your 54min 3 lap time for RP, solid work! I really should make an effort to lay down a 3 lap time but it would involve riding 32 miles. All I ever seem to do at the moment is 20 or 70+ and nothing in between!

Ta. Absolutely perfect conditions for those laps, though. And it took quite a while (most of last week) to recover from it. TBH I need a couple of miles further before a 3lap attempt; only live a mile from the park so not really warmed up on the first lap and it showed in the splits.

Oh how naive of you LiT  , you get together a band of the best scalpers SCR has ever seen and expect them to have a leisurely couple of laps when the three lap challenge is there for the taking and reputations are at stake
