RPCC Ride - Sat 25th / Sun 26th

  • Ok I am keen for a Sat morning ride, but unfort need to home by 3ish, which possibly rules out a CCC ride for me unless an earlier start? Dont know how long the ride would take?? So my (purely selfish) preference would be a longer ride round Surrey Hills.

Will this weather last until the weekend...??

    Yes 8)

Just for reference, CCC took me & Chris around 7.5hrs last time - I might be inclined to start at 8am instead of 9 if anyone does want to do it (yes Chris, I know you do!), but I am still toying with the idea of just making it a longer Surrey Hills ride this weekend as I don't want to screw myself over for the Fred Whitton (which is now less than 3 weeks away!) and having been ill for most of last week it might not be wise to go straight into a CCC blast!

Plus I'm STILL none the wiser when I'll be getting my wheels back...

Was that 7.5 hours riding time, or 7.5 hours to get there, have a schmoke and a pancake, Ya... then ride back?

Also it was only two of you, with a bigger train thats less pulls on the front, so higher speed.

Myk-ee and I started at 0730 sunday, which was a ncie time to finish.

P.s. Rich, do you have a garmin log of the last C-C-C you did?

That was actual ride time - think we set off just before 9:30 from HC, then I was back around 18:30, but we did spend nearly 2hrs in Worthing as I popped a spoke which had to be bodged by my Worthing LBS, then we popped back to my folks' for a bite to eat 8)

Garmin log, bugger - yes, been meaning to upload that to the Garmin site as nobody seems to be able to do anything with it when I email it over!

GPSies has a 12Mb limit, Memory Map doesn't accept the file and Mapsource which should work just crashes cause its too big. Can't upload to Garmin Connect as too big, and GPS Visualiser (similiar to GPSies) wont accept the file cos its too big...

Must be all that power you're pumping out giving that file size.

7:30 hours for us but I had already done 70 miles the day before and Felgen only had 3 hours sleep, so with the hills that time wasn't fast. Also discovered a horse sh!t filled river disguised as a road that slowed us for a bit. My bike has seen worse, but my new Sidi's haven't forgiven me yet
It's the vibe of the thing.

    YES, yes I do (finally!): http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=44253 8)

Let me know if anyone wants it emailing over, and apologies for the squiggly bits around Worthing - that was LBS to fix the spoke, Ma & Pa's for grub and the seafront for evidence of the trip!:lol:

No Saturday ride for me again  I'm starting to get seriously worried about my ambitious Etape Caledonia time  let alone the Fray Bentos
Hopefully I will feel sober enough for a Sunday run - most likely Paragon but if the capital to coast is then I'd be tempted :)

Hmmm, Sunday is currently looking most likely for me and it'll probably then be only a long Surrey Hills ride rather than a C-C-C (or I'll be dead for work on Monday!). Wheels still not done as yet so may need to collect them on Sat :?

Only other option is to get a loan set, but that still means collecting which still essentially rules out Saturday... I'll keep you posted - still busting to ride so hopefully I can get this sorted somehow or other...

Rich, if compatable, I've got a spare pair of Campag Scirocco should you wish to borrow them.

Appreciated Steve but I run SRAM so the cassette spacing and freehub will be different - very good of you to offer though, nice one 8)

    Should've gone to Campagsavers 8)
  • So it looks like a Sunday ride is in for this week...I cant make it so will be out on Saturday, doing some final Fred prep, and plan to do a fast (relatively that is, looking at the recent Box Hill times) ride out to the Surrey Hills and take in a good few hills (something like this http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2756227). Its pretty much what I did last weekend, and averaged about 16mph. This means leaving RP at about 8.30 if anyone is keen.

    Hi Brian

I think there's more people up for a Saturday run than Sunday - Chris, Berns, Homercles and Vince at least. I'm certain Chris will be putting Box Hill on the agenda 8)

...Chris will be putting Box Hill on the agenda

Don't be surprised if he stops half way up and walks/jumps in a car for the rest...
    Trek Madone 6.5 Pro
    Planet-X (now winter-bike)
  • Well he came flying past me near the top last time around, and although I didnt see it I suspect he took a while to wrestle a bidon out the team car

Quiet week this week! Or is everyone going to declare their hand later this evening?

I am keen to get out to do some hill work but as I said previously my missus will own me after 3 pm Saturday so I need to be back at my place by 1.30-2 at the latest, so anyone keen on a run strictly to BH and back? I am keen on doing a few hills in between but probably have to skip Leith.

I'm hoping to be able to declare my hand later - still nothing on the wheel front, although I do have the offer of a set to borrow (but it's just not the same, and I'd need to change my brake blocks etc...). Still hoping for a worst case scenario of 100 miles of Surrey Lanes on Sunday, but I'd really rather do my long ride tomorrow... :?

I am not going to be able to make it this weekend - have a good ride :D In fact I am tied up until late May now, so hopefully I will be able to make a ride then when I am back from Aus, with newly pimped bike...

Yes Vince - sounds like there should be a few people there at 9 so I doubt you'll be on your own 8)

Rich - re the 'RPCecretCit' (tm) design/production have you got as far as choosing a company? If not I have some info that may be of interest to you.

I've been wondering about getting this moving again as I was hoping to wear said 'Cecret Cit' on some of my sportives - can you send me what you have to richard.gearing@mac.com as I want to get some prices etc. sorted!

The issue is that Wilf is away and I don't want to jump the gun in his absence, but if we can at least be ready to 'press the button' and get them ordered once we have a design agreed then we're one step ahead.

    Ta for the reminder! 8)

    Hi guys

I've now got to be back in Richmond for lunch so will have to cry off any of the Surrey/ CCC rides: probably just going to hit the park for a few laps instead. If it's not too busy I might even try and get a 3 lap time up.

Have great weekends all, whatever you end up doing, and should see you on first May weekend.

    Cheers

I'm out - wheels not going to be done and have left it too late to sort a loan set... although I am still contemplating paying Bruce a visit and just buying a set so I can ride!!
