RPCC Ride - Sat 25th / Sun 26th

Here we go again already!

I'm hopefully back on board this weekend after a couple of weekends off - that is assuming my wheels have been fettled in time to convince one of my flatmates to give me a lift to Ash Vale to collect them! It may need to be Sunday for me and I will need to leave until later in the week to confirm, but I'm definitely riding this weekend whatever happens!

Oh, and PLEASE take note of my advisory notice and the Poll this week as we may need to run a 'fast' and 'steady' ride options...

So, usual meet & ride plan:
 9am is most likely on whichever day is favoured (or both days, if you're feeling up to it!) Richmond Gate in Richmond Park, south side (on the left as you come up Sawyer's Hill / on the right if you come through Richmond Gate), by the little white building  80-120k @ 24-28kph / 50-75 miles @ 15-18mph
usually, but nobody gets dropped**
 Boxhill is almost definite (as is a short tea / cake / toilet / bottle refill stop at the top - usually around 15-20mins)
As ever I'd like to emphasise that new faces are more than welcome and actively encouraged, and that applies to lurkers / long-time 'thread watchers' / any who haven't been able to make it along previously / those who don't want to commit on here but might feel like turning up on the day - please do join us if you want to! And ladies don't forget you're more than welcome too! A few newbies have been along in recent weeks and had a great time! :D

A 'collection point' is usually arranged at Hampton Court as that tends to be our route out. All I would ask is that you're there by 9:30am as there won't normally be any hanging around - it's literally just a fly-by quick hello and on the move again. That said there can sometimes be delays getting moving at Richmond Park so there is the potential for folk to be running a little late coming through (and apologies in advance if that turns out to be the case)!

** As mentioned above, I'm putting an advisory in this week!!: I want to do a decent length ride at a decent pace, by which I mean pushing the upper limits of those figures quoted ^^ up there. I want to do 150km minimum, and I want the pace to be around 27.5kph - Chris and I held this pace for around 200k when we did the capital-coast-capital ride a few weeks back and I want to do it again. Whether this ends up being a 150k+ around the Surrey Hills or whether we end up doing the Capital-Coast-Capital ride again remains to be seen and will be decided through the course of the week - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

So, who is about and when? 8) :D

How very specific. Will you mind if it's 27.4, or 27.6? ;)
Edited now so nobody knows what you're on about :P :lol:

(bizarrely though it does always seem to be exactly 27.5kph! :? )

I'll cast my vote for a fast run down to the coast and back! Saturday or sunday, doesn't bother me! 8)

I'm not entirely sure how to vote - definitely up for a ride on Sat, but how hard and long  I want it will probably depend upon how I feel on the day. Saying that, 17mph isn't TOO terrifying (famous last words).

I thought you'd say that!

As mentioned, day depends on my wheels coming back to me, but my preference would probably be Saturday so that I can recover on Sunday, and as mentioned on the other thread after nearly 2 weeks off by the time they do come back I'm not sure how strong I'll be for a C-C-C this weekend - but I'm sure that's nothing a spot of rouleuring won't sort

Homercles - you'll be good for it mate I'm sure, plenty of rest, up early for a decent breakfast... the coffee & cake in Worthing will be worth it mate:

    (and that's a small slice!!)

Hell, I'm even talking myself into it again now...

You should see it in the flesh... or taste it... no word of a lie, the BEST chocolate cake I have EVER eaten, and that is saying something! 8)

But they might only have, say, the Guinness cake, or the Lemon Drizzle... hell, have a look for yourself...!!: Parklife, Worthing

I'm not advertising you understand - merely encouraging you to come along and advising you of the refreshment stop once we hit the coast!:lol:

I have a thought. We can sit on Felgen's wheel on the way down and Chris's on the way back... All aboard.....!! :!:

I'm out MTB'ing Saturday, big one (150kms-ish, Eastbourne to London). But really like the sound of the ccc on Sunday. Might have to provisionally put myself down but it will depend how I feel saturday night, MTB'ing can really take it out on the body.

Rich-Ti - you simply haven't tasted my chocolate cake.

I have been given a leave pass this Saturday morning only. I have to go to Ikea with the other half to buy flatpack furniture for her new house and Sunday to assemble it for her. And on Sunday night I will be home with a beer and picking splinters out of my palms.

I will be most likely be doing a quick 'Mo ride around RP on Saturday.

However if I manage to get a trusty Garmin 605 by the end of the week, I will venture out with whoever on Saturday and turn back where to appropriate (and would be keen on a quick RP to Box Hill dash and back if there are any takers). The other half upset is not a good thing as I discovered yesterday.

What did you break whilst moving her stuff? ;)

Phipsy actually didn't break anything she is not moving till this weekend and last weekend was all about packing. It was something about not wanting to go on a picnic due to the Amstel Gold Race on Sky which started it...

The blond on the right can't make a latte for toffee though. Be sure to get whoever Rich usually gets to make your coffee

Their cake selection is quite awesome though. And even when we popped in on a Saturday recently it wasn't busy, which was nice.
When did you sneak in there Phipsy?! Good observation though - always get Mike to make your coffee :lol:

  • Can't do Sunday - curry buffet for a friend's 30th :D - plus probably not up to C-C-C yet, or at least not at exactly 27.5 kph

But definitely on for Saturday if there are other takers, something similar to this weekend just gone - 100km round trip from RP @ 25 kph - call me a wuss...

    Too ... many ... jokes ... must ... resist

I'm not talking about the chamois in my shorts, I'm talking about my flourless c-cake.

It would never survive the trip in the jersey pocket though, so you'll have to take my word for it!

Wow.. two pages of drivel in 24 hours (my post is by way of a contribution to that :D ), so no decision made about day or route, merely contentious subjective appraisal of relative merits of cake, and which barista to get to make your coffee.

I dont know what I fancy ride-wise, I guess it will depend on how much I get out during the week. I already dont think I will have time for C-C-C.
    Steeds:
    1)Planet X SL Pro carbon
    2)Nelson Pista Singlespeed
    3)Giant Cadex MTB
    4)BeOne Karma MTB

I have been told my a$$ needs to be available (Phips don't even try making a joke here :)) to go to Ikea at 3 pm Saturday so that rules out CCC ride for me. I am happy for a similar run to last weekend if all is keen, although I think Rich wants a longer ride

In terms of cake I have no beef about the lovely flapjacks at the top of BH. However I do miss Cafe Racer in Melbourne http://tinyurl.com/d2xd7q. They had great coffee and juices and it would be packed with cyclists on weekends.
