Just seen him loaded into a ambulance looks like collar bone.

The Giro organisers must be as upset as him. Either the wrist or collarbone.

Who do you think knocked him over?

How many years did he do without a broken bone? Long time.

There are a huge amount of clavicle fractures this year - Or is it me?
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

He crashed and there wasn't one Astana team mate with him. One of the Astana guys falls but gets up on his bike and rides off. It was only one of the Cervélo riders who also hits the deck who walks over to the ditch to see how Armstrong is.

why would there be any other astana riders arround him and why would they stop to check if he was okay? They are working not playing happy families..

Normally when a team leader crashes, others wait with him to pace him back. I wouldn't read too much into it but the other Astana rider just took off, it's an unusual scene.

L'equipe are saying he'll be out for 5 to 6 weeks and so the Giro is in doubt. Don't suppose they know this for fact so soon after.

Oooh bugger. He always seemed to have the luck of the devil with him though - all those Tour miles, and didnt seem to get into many scrapes....

Yes, the peloton is always "nervous" at the start of a race.
Hope it doesn't effect his twittering.....

4 - 6 weeks and possibly an early finish even if he does start the giro because his missus is due to drop their baby arround the time that the giro is on..

But he's known the due date for ages without saying he won't finish the Giro - that has only coincided with the crisis over his lack of form.

I can't remember an early season like this one for injuries - at this rate, and with his new found ability to get over the climbs, Cavendish will win everything this season because the rest of the peloton will be on their sick beds.

Perhaps now Armstrong will decide not to take any more risks and retire gracefully this time - there are surely better ways to publicise the LAF than being carted off in an ambulance?

    quote from CN
Lance Armstrong is considering an early stop in the Giro d'Italia, May 9 to 31, due to a possible early arrival of his fourth child. The due date of his new baby is the first week of June.

"I need to start thinking about that," he said to Cyclingnews when asked if he would stop the Giro early if his partner Anna Hansen delivered early.

"I guess a lot depends on how the race is shaping up. Anna and I need to have that discussion. Ahh... it is frustrating even to think about it. Neither scenario is a good scenario. I have my fingers crossed that it comes on time!"

Apparently it's a clean break and so should heal up quickly, so he won't be out for too long.

That was actually his teammate Vaitkus, he wears the Lithuania champs dark kit. I saw also 1 more of his teammates stopping and asking if he was ok.

Think the other Astana rider with Armstrong was Rubiera.

Yes, L'Equipe reporting Bruyneel's Twitterings. A lot of "journalism" is being conducted via SMS

I think it's a shame if this becomes an excuse not to support Contador fully at the Tour - but then he was going to ride the Vuelta to thank Heras wasn't he and that never happened either.

He retired in the first place to be with his kids, allegedly - I find I enjoy spending more time with mine the older he gets - perhaps he should accept that his legacy will be far better for him walking away at this moment, enjoying his family and finding better ways to promote his foundation than through a very public mid life crisis.
  • I think people who would make cynical comments about someone's injury show a real lack of class

the guy is already hurt; all you want to do is hurt him some more

    seems pretty cowardly to me

i hope he recovers well and is able to get back on track with his goals for the season

this is a tough challenge for him already and now he has to really show the determination to succeed

he has my support for that

Hang on a bit, I don't see anyone really laying into him here. Although I'm sure there a few people around who will gleefully put the boot in soon.
