Perfect morning for it but my little legs didn't seem to want to play on the first lap, got into it after that but although faster than my first attempt I am still in the same spot!! Might try it in the evening next time.

i really want to give this 3 lap challenge a go, i'm away from next sunday till september in greece and am taking my bike with me to train. so i want to do the challenge to see how my time now compares to after the summer. i'm hoping i'll break 57.30 after the summer, i'm not particularly fit but i reckon i can do it.
trouble is i live 30 miles from RP and can't really justify driving over just to do laps. guess i'll just have to ride over and sacrifice some speed in the laps.Your'e never alone with schizophrenia.0 -

Thought I'd time myself going around the park for a change. Conditions were good but there was a fair bit of traffic. Should be able to shave bit more off this next time round.0 -

Anyway - Aus is not home, good old blighty is, but the missus is Aussie so its a visit/holiday, and would be rude not to take the bike with me for some early morning hoons.0 -

It was a good day in the park today. Did a three lap blast on my(extended) cycle home from work.
As usual I started with good intentions. I was supposed to be on a recovery ride after a sportive yesterday but I couldn't help myself and blasted around.
My first and third laps were good, but I lost concentration for a while on my second and it cost me a lot of time. My HR was 25% down for most of the lap and it cost me over a minute. Lazy bugger.
However, my 3rd lap was under 19 minutes, so there's a chance of getting under 57 soon I reckon. With some energy in my legs and a little less wind I could have had a really good time today. Instead I just topped up the worrying cyclist's tan I'm developing on my legs.0 -

Ta, chaps. Have to say that lapping RP with JG has made a big difference. It's forced me to maintain a higher pace.

Just out of interest, what HR % are you averaging on a typical fast lap?
My 22 minute laps on the geared bike are at about 173bpm which, given a resting of 45bpm and a max of 205bpm, is 84% (173/205) or 80% (as % of HR capacity).
3 laps (plus 3km trip to/from the park from home) looks like this: http://www.greenbank.org/misc/rp_comparison_hr.jpg

Fwiw, my average HR for the first lap was 167, I think, but 171 for laps two and three (the third being one second slower than the second). I don't know what that equates to in terms of % of maximum HR, but it's basically that point where the sweat is pouring off you and saliva is beginning to stream.FCN 2-4.

Edit: The Alpe link shows a TT up Alpe d'Huez. You can see a peak in the HR after which I had to rein it in as I was close to the vomitorium...0 -

For the 1st lap I was averaging ~160bpm for an 18.42 lap.
Then was as low as 120bpm on the second as my lap time dropped to aver 20 minutes.
On the final lap I was never below 165bpm and was at 187bpm at the top of Saywers Hill. A few more seconds of 187 and I'd probably keel over. Even pushing it as hard as I could in a sprint to the finish it still dropped to 178. My final lap was 19.30 but it was a lot harder than my first lap.
The first time I visited RP my HR was over200 going up Broom Hill. I've never been into 190s since.0 -
Individual HR figures are meaningless without the context of HRmax and (to a lesser degree) resting HR. Luckily the "a few more seconds of 187 and I'd probably keel over" give me enough context.
A 160bpm average lap for me would be about 24 minutes. I hit 190bpm on my laps but I wasn't at "a few more seconds and I'll be keeling over", that's upper 190's for me. (A higher heart rate means either a less efficient cardio-vascular system, or a smaller heart, or a combination of both). I regularly see 205bpm when playing 5-a-side football.--

I'm posting a lap time to get myself on the board and give me something to aim for. It's a bit of a cheat since it was with a mate and there was certainly occasional drafting, so I have added 30 seconds arbitrarily to make it a bit fairer. Got 4 minutes to go to beat last year's time :shock:

I usually max out around 205bpm but that's out here in the wild, in the last week i've seen my avg HR drop, that's a 1st
So I seem to have sometime on my hands and I owe it to myself to post a better time but before I make the journey could someone please give me an idea of their avg speed up the various bumps, I'd like to make sure I can make the cut.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

at 18yrs old the highest i've seen my HR has been 201 half way into a 10km running race and by that time i wasn't feeling at all good.
my resting HR is about 60 at the moment
the highest i've had my HR go cycling is 187 on an all out 1 lap effort of RP, and getting a 3-lap pb for me means an HR av of about 160-165.

The average 18 year old will have a higher heart rate than the average 40 year old, but individual variances are much greater than the difference between these two.--
