duct tape and bin bag did the job for me

cjcp wrote:Knitting.
You could always take up knitting, particularly if you're going to have at least one knitting needle to hand so you can stick it down your cast when you get an infuriating itch.
I'm not making things better, am I? I'll go now.
Heal fast, LiT. Rest properly; nothing silly.
Actually I knit already, I find it very therapeutic for a busy mind. Which means I already have knitting needles.
That outcast thing looks quite good, although I reckon a binbag will have the same effect!0 -
...LiT...really sorry to hear of your injury. At least you are off the bike in the winter, it would be worse if it was the summer...just go with it...a nice long period of rest...you will be fresh and flying when you get back on the bike...also when you see people wearing shorts in cold weather you can point out the error of their ways......all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0

Sorry to hear that! Get well soon.
p.s. my fixie riding mate told me it was 'impossible' to ride RP pushing 88. :twisted:0 -

Pah. I do/did go the easy way round, but I have done it a few times now.
I have witnesses too - biondino was there the first time I went round. He's a very good guide.
Your mate needs to MTFU. I'll give him some cycling/being a man about it lessons.0 -

I did 6 anti-clockwise laps of RP on sunday in 52x16 (hack bike has downtube shifters and, yes, they suck).0 -

He says 'no-one' rides 88 inches. He has also just dropped from 81 to 72. I shall pass on your message.0 -

lost_in_thought wrote:Well, thanks for your advice on the SCR thread, on my ouchy ride home last night I stopped in at the doctor and booked an appointment for today on the basis that I could cancel if I didn't need it.
So I felt I did, and went along.
To cut a long story short, I have torn part-way through my achilles tendon, enough for them and me to be able to feel the tear. Ouch.
As a result, I am now in plaster to my knee and on crutches.
This sucks.
More than downtube shifters.
Why is the moral 'wear tights'? Because I wore shorts yesterday, and apparently the cold can make your tendons more contracted and according to the medics was probably what did it.
Holy Sh1t! I am so sorry to hear that! I hope you get back on both feet/pedals soon - right old hullabaloo being on crutches at Xmas!
Get better soon - don't worry about SCR, DDD will cover for you......0 -

Sorry to hear this LiT. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I have now heeded caution and the collective advice of the BR community. In the absence of any appropriate cycling kit, I wore my combats on my commute today. Legs do feel better than they did on Mon-Wed.
Some consolation I know but I hope you are waited on hand & foot over the festive break!"Come at the king, you best not miss." - Omar, The Wire

Well, if I've saved one person from tearing their achilles tendon then all the suffering is not in vain...
</martyr>
The docs were very cagey on timeframe for getting back on the bike. Very cagey indeed. To the extent that they basically wouldn't tell me whether it was 3 weeks or 4 months.
Training cogs? Nah, I'll borrow training SS bikes off you lot here. Unless you MTFU in the meantime0 -

Now you may have been joking with that link, but thanks - I've just bought a cast protector for washing and one of their toe warmer things, so thanks!!0 -
I'm going to offer 2 things:
a) my total sympathy, sounds like a total bu99er (although you'll be ill at Xmas meaning much spoiling by family/friends/significant other)
b) some advice: do what the clinical folk (doctors, physios, etc) tell you to. Do not rush back on the bike "because you feel better".
Take it easy.
