And the moral of the story is... WEAR TIGHTS

Well, thanks for your advice on the SCR thread, on my ouchy ride home last night I stopped in at the doctor and booked an appointment for today on the basis that I could cancel if I didn't need it.

So I felt I did, and went along.

To cut a long story short, I have torn part-way through my achilles tendon, enough for them and me to be able to feel the tear. Ouch.

As a result, I am now in plaster to my knee and on crutches.

This sucks.

More than downtube shifters.

:cry::cry::cry:

Why is the moral 'wear tights'? Because I wore shorts yesterday, and apparently the cold can make your tendons more contracted and according to the medics was probably what did it.

Oh no, have some tea and sympathy. And how long off the bike?

Did they manage to recess the cleats in the plaster?

Really sorry to hear about the damage, hope you get back on the bike soon but don't forget to hunt out a good physio for when the plaster comes off.

Ouch. Forced time off the bike sucks.

    Get well soon 8)
  • GWS LiT. Use the plaster to get extra "sympathy" presents for Christmas. Tell your mum you're happy to sit in the kitchen and give her advice but doctor's orders means you can't actually stand and help her cook for the family :D 8)

Best wishes. A prize to the first regular who sees you and writes on your cast in big black marker pen WTFU

Everybody who sees LiT on Friday at MA be armed with marker pens but write only on her cast not her leg, just think of the stubble when the cast comes off   It will hurt when you get back on your bike in the new year/spring.

Seriously though hope ya get well soon, at least it aint mid-summer :)

Edit: Just re-read ur post, you are hard-core, i got an achilles injury once an had to cry myself to sleep :( Ouch x 1500080000 (+infinity)
  • Real sorry to hear that...I am coming up to 4 months off the bike myself after a knee injury and it is so frustrating (gah! can't take much more!)

Get well soon, but BE CAREFUL - the urge to get back on the bike as soon as possible has to be kept in check (however hard that might be) otherwise you can find yourself back at square one very quickly, so +1 for a good physio when the plaster is off and take it easy!!

Here's hoping to hear of your return to scalping action soon.

    Dave, that truly sucks.
    Get well soon.

Do you have an ETA on the plaster removal?

It could be worse, if it was summer it'd ruin your carefullly crafted tan-lines

    Oh poo, that's rather unfortunate.

Hope it all fixies (<< clever-ish pun!) itself soon. Here's some MGMT to help your convalescense, it's appropritate for the first three words if nothing else.

I've just realised it's probably a good idea to carry around a spare cleat which they can attach to the bottom of the plaster in lieu of the rocker thing.

    Knitting.

You could always take up knitting, particularly if you're going to have at least one knitting needle to hand so you can stick it down your cast when you get an infuriating itch.

I'm not making things better, am I? I'll go now.

Heal fast, LiT. Rest properly; nothing silly. :)

    HTFU LiT.

Jolly bad luck though, I hope things don't start to atrophy while you're plastered up.
