Brilliant result - well done Chris, plus David Brailsford for the coach and the team award as well! We swept the board!!!

    The right result!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Nice One Chris.

  • Three right results - no other sports got a look in!
  • I think it's a pity that they didn't include the para-olympic cyclists in the team award. I think it's right that they didn't give the team prize to the whole olympic team, as on the whole the other squads were either meerly on par or woefully below expectations.

I think he faced greater opposition tonight in winning that award than he did on the track, but the right result.

A great ambassador for the sport and great to see the profile of cycling raised so high.

    Well done chris hoy!
But any derogatory remarks about someone who has spent his life working as hard as lewis hamilton are a little below the belt...Have a little class.

Amazing how many F1 drivers do use cycling for training. I bet their appearance fees would be to great to invite them to Revolution for a F1 challenge race.

Schumacher used to train with Tommy Rominger. Most of the F1 drivers use bikes to train on. One year they had a race before the British Championships at Silverstone. Scumacher won. I know it's a fact because I built all their bikes. it was when Schumacher was racing for Beneton. They rode Castle MTB's and all got to keep them after the race.

Maybe give Mark Webber a bit of time to get over his bike/car collision - he may be up for it !

    Fantastic, superb, manifico !!
What a great night and what a great vote for the sport of cycling.
    Ride with Pride !!
Expect a lot of interest from all other sports, I don't think any other sport has ever been quite as successful in the one night. Sir Clive Woodward in his new role has praised Brailsford and the whole approach, it does not take much brains to realise that the sport will attract attention and hopefully a lot more funding.

Well done to Chris Hoy and all his supporters, be it team cyclists, coaches, family or voters. The right decision. Fantastic to see our cyclists up there. Congratulations also to Lewis Hamilton and Rebecca Adlington for their sporting achievements in also coming so far and being excellent ambassadors of British sport.
  • I was jumping around the room in the same style as when Chris, Brad, Vicky, Rebecca, Nicole,Jason etc etc won at the Olympics this year, when Chris was announced as the winner!
Bit daft I know, but it is just such a great result! I am so proud to be a cyclist!

Seeing her and Vicky P in a dress didn't look right, so used to seeing them in lycra
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

A champion chosen from winners. :)

I thought Lewis would get the vote so perhaps cycling is more popular than I thought.

Now I have just have to live up to the cycling prowess of having the same surname...

Well done to all the cyclists and obviously to Chris. It rounds off a fabulous year for British cycling. Problem now is when out on the road do we have to watch our backs for disgruntled Lewis Hamilton fans!

Get in! Superb result for Sir Hoy.

I voted 4 times... Once for each family member - but my 7 year old wanted to vote for Andy Murray (local hero), so only 3 votes went to Chris Hoy from here.

    Cheers, Andy

Er, that was a bit of a wobble from Brad himself wasn't it?! I think the camera cut to Romero during or just after his comments and you could see her thinking 'if I don't react, perhaps that didn't really happen...'

Anyway....congratulations to Hoy, Brailsford, and the team! And I only voted once.. ;)

  • Awesome results, great work to all that voted more than once! :o) I had an old mobile sim and managed to get 8 votes in before it ran out of credit.

The votes according to the Press Association were:
    283,630 Hoy
    163,864 Hamilton
    145,924 Adlington
  • Sounds like another BBC voting scandal is in the making.

    Here you go...
SB: You won gold in Athens, but was the double gold in Beijing any sweeter?
BW: <long pause> erm, yeah it was alright yeah. It's just nice to do it, you know, all that training and for it to come off like that. But, yeah, I suppose none of us expected to lose, to be honest, we kind of went in as extreme favourites after the world championships, everyone just went did their own job and kind of went through their preparation and training I think anyone would have been disappointed had they got second or whatever in their respective event, so it's kind of just a tick in a box really each time anyone went up. It sounds awful but that's the way it was done.

Well done to all involved. A great day for Cycling.

i didn't think what he said was so bad. Although maybe to the average viewer. We all know that all of the guys on the team have that same mentality. Second place is first loser. Thats how Brad came across.

What he said was entirely fair - it just looked like he forgot where he was for a bit. Hard to explain, video of the entire 'bit' is here in the link (edit: BW is at 06:36 immediately following Nicole Cooke). Cooke came across really well, I thought:

Define same level and type of disability? That's not as easy as it sounds.

If it's nonsense and patronising, then why do so many paralympians train so hard and turn up or attempt ot make the squad?

If you take that logic along then:
I suppose racing at masters age group level is a nonsense and patronising as well then?
And junior racing too. Yep, complete nonsense.
While we're at it, why separate women and men?

I may seek to push for a place at the next Paralympics if I can be good enough. And it won't be nonsense or patronising. It'll just be bloody hard work. If a guy with a different disability to me gets the spot, well good luck to him. He'll have worked bloody hard too.

On Topic: Congrats to team GB and Hoy. It must be nice to see a minority sport get some national recognition.
