Right then, it seems theres quite a few of us with a common interest here!!!

How about meeting for a beer next Tuesday night then? About half 7??

I'd like to meet in town as its easier to get to for me when on foot!!

Let me know what you all think! J

Hey all, I start a new job on Monday which will give me all my weekends off at long last!!! I should get home early enough to come out on evening rides too!

I fell off at the quarry the Monday before last, dropped into the quarry down one of the steep fast bits, over the first small jump, then a bit higher over the second and then came the third........I looked like a flying squirrel in the air and then went over my handlebars on landing over the top of my front wheel at about 20 mph according to the speedo before it shot off too!!

I have since bought knee and shin guards and plan on getting elbow pads too soon + I wear a full face helmet!

I don't care what people think about folk who ride in pads since I fell off, I've still got cuts and grazes nearly 2 weeks on!!

Anyhow, me and a mate will be joining you guys one night next week hopefully if your out??

There has been a new trail/DH run constructed in the woods if anyone wants to check it out. It starts at the top at the far end of the dirt jumps towards conisbrough end.

DH races will be held on the last Sunday of every month from now on. The first ever race last month was excellent with 60 + competitors and 150+ support so I'm told.

Unfortunately I couldn't compete because I hospitalised myself practicing on Thurs night  . I fractured my spine on t6 and t7 vertibrae, left ribs 2+4 and right ribs 3-7. No serious damage though and was only in hospital for 5 days, I do have to wear a body brace for 6 weeks though  .
It wasn't all doom and gloom as my bro came in third the race.

    Alright bumblebeard!

Where is the track laid out at Steetly? Just wondering as I'd like to have a walk through and a practice at it first!

Not to gain the competitive edge or anything, its mainly to see if my balls are any where near big enough to have a go at it and to see how difficult it is!

would be good to meet up with you down there over the next week or so to have a look at the course if your up for it??!

    Cheers, J

Evenin chaps, just found this thread and thought I'd stop by and say hello. I've been riding on and off for about 10 years but only recently started again after a couple of years off the bike and a knee operation last year.

Me and 2 mates (both complete novices) usually have a wander around Sandall Beat woods on a Sunday morning and either Weds or Thurs afternoon although we're hoping to get off to Ladybower this week. I'm just getting my confidence back and not testing the knee too much at the minute so it's quite boring XC trails with big ambitions of getting to ride the trails I used to regularly ride in the Peaks and getting around the Dalby Red route by the end of the year.

I'm interested in coming along to the race at Steetley on May 24th as I think the best way to motivate yourself to ride is to be around events like this, and maybe to pick up some tips!!!! It's been a good few years since I've been to Steetley and when I was there, the trails were few and far between so it's interesting to hear that there has been some development up there. Any info you can give me about what's up there and where I would find the race route would be appreciated, and if you guys still have plans to meet for a beer sometime I think we'd be interested in joining ya and finding out more about where to ride locally.

    Cheers.

Howdy folks. Just signed up to the forum in the hope that there are some MTBers in the Donny area, and what do I find - you lot! Excellent. I live in Rossington, am approaching middle age (well mid thirties anyway) but still make it out on my old Kona hardtail whenever I get a pass from the missus.

I'd be interested in a bit of XC/singletrack type stuff in the Doncatraz area if that's your thing. Travelling is not a problem either as I regularly ride the Peaks and Dalby.

Drop me a line if you fancy riding out in the evenings or weekends.
  • A DH track has been constructed in the Woods near to Steetley Quarry, Conisbrough. The Woods called Nearcliffe Woods are between the village of Conisbrough and the Old Viaduct.
The track has been constructed in private woods and is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI)
Following a complaint from Natural England there is an investigation underway to identify and possibly prosecute those responsible for the building of this track under Section 28 Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Anyone building further tracks or riding in the SSSI may face arrest, prosecution and the seizure of their bikes and equipment.

To add to the message by the Police. Steetley woods are nationally protected and carry a heavy penalty (up to £20,000) for anyone found damaging the trees and the habitat in the woods. The damage has become excessive since the formation of the downhill track.

I am sure that no rider seeks to destroy the countryside that you all enjoy and Natural England are not out to spoil anyone's enjoyment of downhill riding but this site now needs to be restored and the habitat protected.

Please could the organisers of this event contact me to discuss this ASAP.

    Hello All.

I have recently moved to the area. Been up and seen Steetley and have been out and about with the guys from extreme bike shop on a Thursday.

Ride a Marin B-17 but im after a Mongoose Pinn'r after Christmas.

I've met up with Jay and we've began riding again. Would be cool to meet more people and learn more about the routes of Doncaster!
