I think I called someone an idiot for watching TV while driving. If someone was offended by that, maybe they should stop watching TV while they are driving!!

Not sure, Eat My Dust. Isn't it an inalienable human right to watch TV while driving? Why else would you need to use the mobile phone if not to vote for your favourite no-talent on X Factor or enter a remarkably hard text-to-win competition? I too find it offensive that you are suggesting that watching TV while driving make stupid me.

I don't approve of watching TV while driving but I draw the line at suggesting all the X Factor contestants have no talent. Diana, Laura and Alexandra are all phenomenal and should have successful careers ahead of them. And if Diana loses and feels sad I will be happy to comfort her in my own special way.

There have been many general recalls of all BMWs because their indicators never seem to work! Turns out the problem isn't with the cars at all

I drive a BMW...I will definitely not indicate or show any road manners anymore due to your prejudice......And the fact that I drive a BMW (and occasionally and Audi...)

Doesn't the effected "I've got no shoes, I'm Sandy Shaw" and "look at my mystical hand, I'm Kate Bush" make you want to put your foot through the TV? Far from convinced on her talent to be honest - if the judges had any concept of what goes on away from the mainstream they'd realise that she's not original at all. How old by the way? ;)

The "omg she really does sound like Dolores O'Riordan, oh noes" factor is the biggest issue, to be honest. I'd noticed the hand thing too, and it's a bit odd, but you know, she's only seventeen, she'll learn :)

Also, I like Sandie Shaw and Kate Bush a hell of a lot more than most pop acts, so I don't consider a resemblance to either to be a problem!

Not you, then. But is it the fact that it's a strongly felt opinion you don't care for, or the fact that it's a Londoners' site?

I'm equally surprised you bothered to post a comment on something you don't care about. Stop. You're wasting the internet.

We're all just trying to get somewhere, if drivers allowed cyclist more room when stationary or overtaking us, the road would be a better place. In return we'll say thank you by giving a wave of appreciation. Not all cyclist jump red lights, or ride on pavements, but part of the reason that some do is they feel unsafe on the road.

Short and sweet....now lets wait and see the comments! :D

    Guess we won't:

I'm just amazed to hear you actually watch that drivel. Exploitation television at it's very worst. Kudos to Cowell though, I love the fact that watchers who dislike him think they're getting one over on him by voting for acts that aren't "managed" by him, voting by calling telephone lines that he owns. Morons. It's small wonder that he doesn't look even smugger.

+1 on everything but 'exploitation television'. There have been enough series of this tripe now for anyone who signs up to know exactly what they're getting themselves into.

It exploits the stupidity of the viewer as much as the stupidity of the contestant, and I'll warrant many of the people that audition have no idea quite how unfair the contract signed by the eventual winner will most likely be.

Still as my friend Simon loves to say, people are stupid. Although at least as a teacher he tries to do something about that!

Hmmmmm, maybe the contestants are just stupid and don't realise what they're getting themselves into. And anyone who is convinced that a spot on X-Factor etc. wil lead to a long and fulfilling music career must be stupid.

Maybe I'm giving these reality TV types too much credit...

Oh and anyone calling a premium rate phone line when they don't need to will be issued with a dunce hat free of charge. Just dial 09012 222 563 to receive your free dunce hat.

This kind of rubbish is a major reason why I got rid of my old TV.

Even though I bought a new one last week, I have only used it for watching DVDs and playing on the Wii. BTW - was there some kind of election this week? I haven't watched the news for a while...

It's not "stupid" to call a phone line to vote for a contestant on a TV show*. The interactive aspect makes the whole experience feeling more enjoyable and immersive, and the votes are real votes - they make a difference!**

Is Jash "stupid" for buying a bike for £3k more than he needed to? No, because he gets value from the purchase. X factor viewers get value from the £1.50 text charges or whatever. paying for entertainment is hardly a novel concept but you're looking at them as if they've just set light to a bunch of fivers.

*don't get me wrong, most people ARE stupid. But this particular action doesn't make them so.

**if anyone wants me to find theoretical evidence for why voting DOES make a difference I can do so.

Call me old-fashioned, but I'd rather get my kicks from interacting with real people in real life than via a TV show...

Most of my social life involves the internet. Most of the friends I've made over the last few years have been through the net - mostly running sites and here. I met my last four boyfriends through the net, and although things may not have worked out, they're all still great friends. You *can* get the social interaction through the net that you get in real life - more so because distance isn't an issue.

Certainly for me, the net will be my main contact with the outside world until next summer, as I won't have time for a proper social life - I'll be on the laptop (recovering) when I'm not training.

But I know posting this on the net is pretty much preaching to the converted...:D

Dunno - it's not even tuned in :p. I spent the last few months without a TV and I didn't miss it at all. I don't want to get back in the habit of watching mindless drivel all the time.

  • There's nothing wrong with mindless divel, particularly if your life is full of heavy sh!t.

One of the smartest guys I ever knew was addicted to tabloid journalism. He regarded it as comedy. When he wanted to read the news, he picked up a broadsheet (times have chaged).

The problem begins when you start to forget that its drivel.

In addition, one person's drivel is another person's entertainment. Millions of people were leaping about the other evening watching people drive in circles in very expensive pieces of plastic. Millions of others wonder what the fuss was about.

Many of the films you watch are, arguably, mindless drivel. Should people only watch art house cinema, documentaries, approved comedies and the channel 4 news?

And that's why I use internet forums ;)

I'm not trying to claim that films are any better than TV - it's all entertainment. The difference is that when I'm watching a DVD, I'll watch the film and then switch off. But when I previously had a TV, it was always on, and I ended up watching so much rubbish.

Is this thread sufficiently off topic now?

You don't watch any of the "extras" then?

I got so bored with predictable films, I've not bothered to replace my Doovde.

Mmmm... off topic.... WASHING POWDER - surely they can come up with some that makes your clothes smells nice for more than the first commute. Honestly - I can't afford enough base layers.

Nope - I rent a DVD to watch a film, not watch people talking about a film, or laughing when they mess up their lines. I loved extras when DVDs first came out, but the novelty quickly wore off...

I use capsules rather than powder. I have genuinely been complimented on my clothes smelling nice :?
