Quiet country road, steamed up windows with some hand prints.

When I started riding again I found a nice quiet loop which I rode until I got my confidence up and my road sense back. Cold winters night Im buzzing around this loop and I come across a car with its engine running half way up a "hill" , so I pass as close as I can (I could have been doored  ) to get some heat. Next time around its there again and again and again and I find myself slowing down to try to get just a bit warmer for just a second longer. As this loop was only a mile at most from my house I decided that I would take one last loop slowly as part of my cool down routine. I get to this car again which my flashing front light is illuminating like Piccadilly Circus for the umpteenth time and of course its only then due to the steamed up windows and obligatory handprints that I realise what the occupants are up to. I was a metre away from 2 sweaty naked people doing the do at least 20 times  .

Not while cycling but we found a bag containing a good few rounds of live machine gun ammo somewhere on the (mostly cycleable) hiking route between Corrour station and Spean Bridge

I found a porno mag while out on my bike in the 70s aged about 14. Read it, got back on bike, the forks kind of disintegrated.... I felt that the baby Jesus was trying to tell me something of his disappointment with me.

I've only ever tried dogging once but the damn mutt wouldn't stop howling.

apart from cycling i do a lot off walking , lake district and such . I always seem to see solitary running shoes or the odd walking boot! how the f#@* do these people get home? I was out shooting once when i was younger and found a suicide note and a load of pills but never came across the body? i know a lad who did find a body in a local lodge about 20 years ago drowned after a drunken summer evening swim. bit the oddest thing i passed on the bike was 2 guinea pigs sat at the side of the road near anglesark last summer?

  • Man, if I found a puppy, I'd not be giving to anyone, unless they asked real nice. Or to my Mum for Christmas maybe.

I remember a long time ago while at college, a friend got on a train and it stopped at a red light. Looking left he said he saw a gentleman doing 'something wrong' with a goat. The bloke looked at the train, and the no doubt numerous students staring back at him, then carried on with the goat. Wasn't sure wether he laughed or was sick. Part of me wishes he was lying.

On my bike I came around a corner on the valley road to the Palambero near Cabezon de la Sal in Cantabria and amazingly there was an eagle at about 20 metres on the edge of the road pecking at slugs and snails. In her daily chat over the fence with our landlady Mrs F tried to describe this to senora - dismal failure! Senora thought that I'd stopped to eat the slugs!! So depowering when you don't speak the language. Later on my son got lost in the mist in the mountains - not speaking Spanish made this a nightmare; fortunately he turned up eventually just as senora and her sister were preparing to tranquillise Mrs F!!!

    A dead body :(

Just off Ash Ranges about 8 years ago. On our early Sunday Moring MTB ride there was this body lying there and his dog next to him. Called the police etc etc..

Apparently he was on medication and was living on his own and most likely went outwith his dog the night before. Toxicollogy showed alchol and perscription drugs in his blood stream and his body just couldn't cope.

2nd body I have found in the open now. First was when I was 15 and in the Air cadets (luckily we were in a group) and was a suicide victim in the Marlborough Downs. Lets just say he had used a shot gun and the body had been there for over 2 weeks - so wasn't the pretiest thing.

faaaack - how unlucky are you - two bodies too many to be finding in my opinion!!

In the same layby a while later I found a still smouldering burnt out Jensen Interceptor, what a waste.

    When was this?

What a waste indeed, a very handsome and rare car :(

  • Came across a shetland pony on the road last week. Caught it and took it back up the road to where I thought it had come from only to find a whacking great padlock on the gate. After a lot of faffing about I ended up sticking it in another field. I hope its owner has found it.

The weirdest stuff I ever saw was mind boggling. A can of squirty cream, a cucumber with teeth marks in it and various assorted ladies undergarments.
    I have pain!
  • Pull the other one...!

What, you either stopped to inspect the cucumber or you were on a 15% alpine pass. How did you see the teeth marks?! :?

  • Saw a ferret (with handlers) and a weasel (or was it a stoat - about 6 inches long) with a mouse in it's jaws. Both on Sunday morning's ride.
  • There are two guys who live near me who take their ferrets for walks on leads!! It's hilarious.

What exactly were you doing with/to the pony!!!!!!

Not the first time I heard about this sort of thing - a while ago (4-5 years or so??) it made the news when some bloke was witnessed by umpteen passengers on a stationary train somewhere between (I think) Hull and Selby 'carrying on' with a farm animal. Needless to say, given the amount of witnesses, there was a near-watertight case against him and he was successfully prosecuted.

  • Shoe with the persons foot still in it.
There had been an accident earlier that evening & it got left behind. Tried reporting it to the local police station. Not interested, so I went back, picked it & returned to the police station with some "lost property".

Before anyone asks, I didn't claim it.

Set of traffic lights still attached to the pole comes a close second.

More likely to be spoons used by junkies, they heat uop heroin in them to make it liquid to inject, apparently!!
Give them a wide berth anyway.

Found a Barry White cassette tape discarded at the side of the road once, with a great length of tape pulled out and knotted up. Nothing unusual. But it came in very handy five minutes later, when my rear mech fell to bits, and I used the tape to strap it to the chainstay and limp home, single-speed :D

Well it must have been a small horse/pony as I don't remember any stepladder being involved :?

One early morning ride I went past an elderly lady taking the biggest pig you've ever seen for a walk on a lead. The pig even had a jaunty neckerchief, although given the size of the beast it was probably a table cloth.

Also came across a mixy bunny sitting in the middle of the road, I stopped and the poor thing hopped straight into my front wheel.
  • Circa 1993 I was out cycling and saw a silver VW Passat dispose of a package on a lonely country road then drive off. Reaching its former position I found a VHS tape with a label on it: "Pi55 Dreams / Extreme Torture".

More recently I stumbled upon a neo-nazi celebration of the anniversary Rudolph Hess's death near the site where he crashed his aeroplane. My pictures of the scene (posted on this site) didn't attract too many comments though.

I thought they used aluminium foil for that... anyway, that never occurred to me. I must be too naïve..
