Yeh but did you have to cycle 4.5 miles home with only one crankarm attached?

    eh eh did you ...?

    I WIN 8)

    Hold your horses there.
I didn't do any miles with only one crankarm, but I did do 15 miles across London with a wobbly bottom bracket and cracked BB cups on my fixie.
Then I got two hours sleep and then had to help a mate with some heavy lifting (digital piano and other audio equipment).

Well that's just poor attention to maintenance.

I feel like such a Grandad. Mind you, at 4am on Saturday, I was up - stumbling around trying to find some Calpol for the littl'un.

It seems that my fixie wasn't up for the ~80 mile ride to Portsmouth and the BB hasn't felt right since. I investigated it on Sunday and saw the damage.

More faulty parts/shoddy construction than lack of attention to maintenance.

Oops, should have put a  after that comment. I have a used Miche track BB which might be suitable and is looking for a home. I'm unlikely to use it anytime soon (it came out of the Mercian frame when I bought it from ITB). Yours if you want it.

No worries. Old bike + my fettling skills x cheap components = Bits falling off/wobbling

Thanks for the offer of a BB. I'll check what size I need and get back to you.

I feel like such a lightweight. I went drinking straight from work and was seen by a neighbour falling up the garden path a little after 1am. Felt rather worse for wear all through Saturday.
I once lost a pedal after a similar drinking session. Set off for home, foot slipped off the remaining pedal, bike headed for the Thames, I steered the other way, fell off and cracked a rib. Ouch.
