Sometimes it's a lower back issue rather than glutes/strings. If your physio's correctly qualified you can trust her

This is why you have to think why weights will help.

If you have a known weakness then strengthening this with weight training will allow you to cycle more frequently/greater intensity which ever is relevant. This will improve your cycling, but it is an indirect benefit.

I too had ITB problems but mine was caused by weak Vastus Medialis so strengthening that a bit helped me ride more. As I was able to do more intense work on the bike it grew quite a bit more and the problem has gone. Core work and dead lifts really helped with lower back pain.

ITB problems can often be a result of a weak gluteus medius in runners, could possibly cause similar issues in cyclists but don't know.

Still do weights because I enjoy it and don't want the refugee upper body look.

if you ask me - here's a great reason to do some weight training:

Lets face it - unless you have a racing calendar to think of - do you really want to look like an Auschwitz survivor on your family beach holiday?

I like weight training - it's fun and demanding and completely different to the cycling. Its not like I wil ever be some 18stone bodybuilder - I just wasn't that far up the queue when musclebuilding genes were handed out - but I like to look fit and toned - I can't see it having that much negative effect on my cycling.
