Great fun today. Had a to and fro, ding dong ride with a chap on a light blue SS, black top and a cap.

Passed him first time along chelsea embankment. The lights just before the DSC were red and I pulled up behind another cyclist. They weren't quick away from the light so I shoulder-checked getting ready to pass. About 10m back but with good closing speed was the SSer. I let him go and then sat in until the VB lights.

Fun and games up millbank. He was ahead but I pass before the Tate. I slow due to a car ahead and he undercuts grinning like a loon. The car speeds up and so do I, also griinning like a loon. Mr SS man filters better than me across lambeth rbt and to HoP.

It's game on again down vicky embankment. He's doing high twenties (chapeau) and i'm about 10metres back biding my time. The traffic finally opens up and I pass at 31 and keep it going through the green light at blackfriars ramp and through the tunnel. \o/

    Good ride :D

You should have had double arms in the air when going through the lights holding aloft his scalp :D

First time on the bike tonight in a few days. I'm seriously hoping this means they're refreshed rather than empty.

I was hoping that this morning (a week off the bike) but it didn't really seem to work out. Feeling a bit bleurgh now, but hope it's just the effects of sitting in an office (as opposed to on a beach in Devon).

  • Almost a missed connection! You; Boardman roadie, white shorts. Me, black Downtube folder, hi-vis jacket, chinos tucked into my socks like some Oxford don. I got on your shoulder as we entered Kingsway from Southampton Row, you shoulder checked twice as we got through the lights and snarlups, so I know you knew I was there as the traffic cleared, sitting on your shoulder. I kicked to go past, my chain dropped, and I drifted off into obscurity. Your scalp was saved, and I thought that would be the last I saw of you.

Stopped, put my chain back on at leisure hoping other viable scalps would appear, then headed off. Surprisingly, I found you again coming round onto the Strand, and clearly going my way over the bridge! I know you clocked me before we made the turn, and fair play, you poured it on. You kept checking as we hurtled past everything else on the bridge - loads of scalps for me, and a few for you, too, and I was there all the way, dipping in and out of primary looking for clear road for an attack. Then, where the roadworks end and the road widens, I saw my gap, and went. Yep, I didn't think you had anything left! Must have been depressing to be scalped by a folder after doing everyone else on the bridge, but I didn't leave you in any doubt, did I? Satisfying.

Oh, how I missed the bike. Nice night for a ride. A chap on a Condor hitched a cheeky ride down the NKR.

Roads were clear, legs felt good, weather was OK (but could have done with a nice sunset to set it off nicely), so where the hell was everyone. A handful of RLJers, and that was pretty much it. Shame you didn't hang on a bit CJ.

  • I feel I must start off with an apology to all other riders I met this morning... In fairness I've been told I've got a well shaped arse but there was no need for you to all see it this morning as I went past :D

... and thus one morning as the grey mists of sleep rolled back from the eyes of the pootlers, and the small ache of tiredness gently seeps into the legs of those who overdid it the night before a dark knight appeared. Red masked and riding like the very devil was whipping him he rode forth and slayed all who lay before him. None were spared.

and to the dude on the green thing. I'd already shown you how to accelerate, why you felt the need to be humiliated again I'll never know.

    Morning all!

Had to dash - babysitting duties last night (although not mine).

WTH is with the traffic after Parlt Sq down to Horseguards?? And why is there ALWAYS a delivery van parked outside Westminster Tube in the middle of rush hour. You can put the CC up to as high as you like and you ain't gonna solve that gnarl up if you don't sort that out. :x

I've got a stinking headcold a the moment, but it doesn't appear to have hit my lungs and although making me feel crappy doesn't yet seem to be affecting my cycling.

A chap on a tourer cut me up last night on the way out of Kingston, nipping from right to left though a gap in the traffic jam into the cycle lane without checking. He apologised, but then pootled along at 28kph. I overtook him over HCB but he pulled in ahead of me at the right turn seems he wanted to play, but an extended period of 45kph from HCB beyone Hurst Park saw him going backwards rapidly.

Similar issue this morning, having dispatched veryone down Priory Lane they all pull up in front of me at the Queens Ride lights. Again, 45kph hitting Bolan Death Bridge means I don't see a soul behind me until I turn onto Putney Bridge.

From then on, it's every light and crossing. :(

Set off at 7am, an hour earlier than usual. Slightly faster journey from Greenwich to Cannon Street but nobody else playing.

Passed a black guy wearing a backpack with pipecleaners for legs on a bizarre looking saddle that seemed to just be a padded width-ways bar that didn't go forward at all, almost just a perch rather than a seat. Never seen anything like it, probably looked like I was checking him out

Anyone on here riding a black or grey mtb or hybrid from the LRR area, quick, wears black a lot, seemingly very tall and turns off at Millbank Tower?

    Not notsoblue, is it?

Possibly, I wear a brown Crumpler. Joined NKR at about 7:45 this morning. I don't turn off at Millbank though. Hope it wasn't you I almost ran off the road this morning just before Blackfriars Bridge. :( Tried an overtake that didn't stick. Heard a "Whoa" from behind but didn't have the beans left to apologise properly before I went up the ramp and he went into the tunnel. Sorry to whoever that was!

Could have been me. I got left-hooked there this morning and had to dab the anchors. Was on the Pearson and a vision in black this morning: cap, leg and armwarmers, ss top and bibs. A right ninja I was

If it was I said 'Nice'

Edit: nah, wasn't me. You were way too early

  • Chapeau to the chap on a bling machine last night...didn't get the marque but he was on a black road bike with red decals, red Vittoria Rubino tyres, black/red bar type....blue jersey and small backpack.

Circa 6.40pm...He first came past on the take away from VB going west last night. He wasn't hanging around thru the DSC and managed to get a jump on me away from CB with two other guys in close pursuit as I was boxed in by a Hi Viz nodder.

They had about 100 yds on me by the time I reached the bottom of the CB down ramp. I had to put on the burners to the high twenties to make up the ground as they must have been cruising in the mid twenties as a mini peloton.

Managed to catch them up because Royal Hospital Rd junction lights were red. Rapid man proceeded to give it beans and was away like a whippet closely followed by the rest of us. We all charged thru AB junction and then had to filter like demons thru the traffic queue at BB.

Net, I ended up back on rapid guy's tail after BB....he was really gunning it. It's been a while since I've found anyone like this on my commute. Un/fortunately, he carried on while I made the Lots Road turning.

I wonder if you are on here fella.....if you are Chap to the peau!

I will hopefully be powering home to then get back to Royal Albert Hall to hear the London Fill-a-monic playing soundtrack while watching Return of the King on a big fecking screen.

It will be a take no prisoners approach for one night only this week.
