Wasn't too bad for my ride. Met a cute long haired brunette who was wearing full length lycra tights (any one like them sweaty ;) ) but was fantastically fast and kept me honest all the way from Bank to Lotts Road.

On a red Giant? Yep. She was rapid.
Both of us also had a run in with a guy on a red roadie bike, slightly old looking frame and the guy was sporting a tatty looking beard. Had the word Attica on the frame. The same Attica as on here? He was pretty rapid, only able to hold on to his tail and went separate ways in the filtering to AB

"Tatty looking beard". You cheeky little....

    It needs a trim actually.

Cycled to school with my son this morning and had to get from Tolworth roundabout to Putney High St.as quickly as possible so that I wasn't late for a meeting. Managed it in around 22 minutes. Riding along the A3 is never pleasant, but needs must.

Rain and an irritating head wind all the way home, so Putney to Long Ditton via the upper richmond road and the hill up to star and garter home was slow. Plus I wanted to conserve my energy for an evening ride round richmond park.

    Very, very wet.

Thought I'd got away with it, but 15 minutes from home the heavens opened as I crossed Hampton Court Bridge.

I would have been dryer swimming across.

It started raining when I was in the Park, but made it home before the deluge began.

Pfft!. Light drizzle when I left work, and alternating between that and proper rain all the way home. Absolutely drenched by the time I got home. Took it all very steady, especially over the huge number of manhole covers coming down through the City. Everyone else was taking it easy too - 20mph and 42x15 was enough to see me way out in front from VB to CB.

@Sketchley: no shame in taking it steady in the rain and gloom. discretion being the better part of valour and all that. My braking distance was at least doubled this evening.

Yeah, was a bit damp this evening. The couple of cyclists I talked to seemed to be stoically enjoying it though. :D

Needed to watch out for the motorists though. Going through Parsons Green one helf-pulled out on the cyclist in front of me. At the very next side road the same thing happened to me. I went very primary and gave him a wave indicating disbelief. Both of us cyclists were lit up pretty well, too

To be honest I was behind with no way of coming past apart from committing myself to blowing up pretty spectacularly. I gave it big beans to catch up with the brunette away from CB and was happy drafting her when you whistled past. What is an SCRer to do? Look at well toned legs to chase? Naturally I ditched her and set of after you but it was a losing battle :(

Need to get some more weekend miles in to sort out some endurance, I think its time to get back down to the Kingston Wheelers on Sunday

BTW, why does your bike say Attica on it? And now I know to look out for the "beard" I'll keep my eyes peeled ;)

What time was this at? I left Tower Bridge at bout 7.15pm, and then had ten minutes of normality before the heaven's absoultely opened. I have never seen rain like that I dont think, and had to stop a few times to sort out the galssses. Anyway, it cleared up fifteen minutes later. Gotta love the hughe amounts of water that seem to accumulate on the dragstrip at times like this though. Given the conditions there was no action at all.
  • I actually rather enjoyed the rain last night :-) It was damp when I left around 5:30 and then started drizzling with the heavier rain only really starting once I hit Clapham Common.

Had a rather amusing moment with the headwind coming along Millbank, I think it was around the point of the tower that I felt like I'd ridden into a wall - in one fell swoop I think I had about 4-5mph knocked off my speed! Thank god I have drops :-)

As others have said most people seemed rather restrained with the weather and I didn't get too much trouble, a few roadies had a go but the only one that made any proper trouble for me was a rather enthuastic (& bordering on dangerous given the conditions) bloke in Clapham. At this point it was raining a bit heavier and traffic was busy and there was 3 cyclist who where clearly not wanting to hang around. Him and the other guy where giving it beans but he was swerving around and cutting between other riders very close........I hung back a bit until after the small descent then make a move on the flat. Got the rear guy but couldn't quite pip the lunatic as he went round a car that was reversing onto the road - I'd already slowed knowing the car wouldn't spot us but he instead chose to have a yell at them.....

A bit closer to home I think I may confused a driver :-) It was on one of the roads that I usually get some stupid close passes. I was taking primary through the traffic island and avoiding the various potholes at the side of the road. I was conscious of a behind me and they hung back very respectfully until the road cleared and I'd pulled over a bit. After they passed I gave them a thumbs up and then got a garbled comment out the window when they slowed up a bit later. Unfortunately they turned off before I could catch up again to explain I wasn't complaining :-D

Same here. At one stage, I was riding with the bike cranked over at almost 45 degrees just to stay upright!

Also managed a couple of scalps, however I think the second one needs some clarification as to whether it was an actual scalp or just a pass - I'm on the Focus Mares - Gatorskins, mudguards etc. He's on a MTB Hardtail. We're both clad in lycra and rain jackets, I've got a backpack on, he hasn't and he's wearing glasses. Now, I overtook him, but on a MTB trail - muddy, gravelly and under an inch of water in most places. If I'd taken him on the road, it would have understandably just been a pass, however this was on "his turf" so to speak. Where do I stand with this one?

Ride in this morning was almost sureal by comparason. Virtually no wind, the sun rising up over the Bristol Channel, very little traffic and for some reason, I flew in even though I'd decided to take it easy after yesterday's exertions...

There were hundreds of bikes giving it a lot of action on on Jamaica Rd / TooleySt this morning around 7:20.

Ok, maybe about 20, but I've never seen that many before, not at that time in the morning. It almost looked like an organized race!

I sure as hell gave it some, but it was getting a tad dodgy with so many bikes competing for space. It gradually calmed down and the peloton split in half at London Bridge.

Amongst it all there was what looked like some car vs bike rage too.

Looks like the car changed lane poorly, and then veered into the cycle lane.

The cyclist behind almost had his front wheel taken out, so gave the boot of the car a small tap. This obviously switched on the drivers 'road rage' button, so he then purposely veered in and out of the cyle lane trying to intimidate and/or knock this bloke off. Words and hand gestures where exchanged, then the car turned off and it was over.

Trek, mainly red with splashes of white. Casetelli head to toe, all in black and white. And black arm and leg warmers. Is that anyone on here?

Left a lot later today 8.15am, which is CJCP kinda of time but I dont think I saw you. Had to do a parcel drop and get to Tower Hill and showered etc by 9.00am. Naturally I didnt make it. Did ensure the ride was fast, if not a little stressed!

Got properly beaten up by Condor Man last night. I've had a few run ins with him now and have generally come off better, but last night he was riding like a man possessed. He caught me cold through Walworth, then powered all the way through Camberwell, up Denmark Hill and into Dulwich, dancing on the pedals out of the saddle. I figured he must blow up at some point, otherwise I was going to be in big trouble up College Road. Managed to pick him off on the early slopes, but he attacked just after the flattish bit half way up and I had no answer. Managed to keep him in check but he had clear distance by the top. Still, only 3:15ish so at least I know I was beaten by my legs as much as the opponent. Quick commute overall though, 38 minutes from Fenchurch Street to Beckenham, got me home about 5 minutes before the heavens truly opened (still got wet mind).

I saw a Ribble, but by the NKR, I think - didn't strike me as you. I was pootling and chatting to a Dynamo all the way from before the railway bridge at Victoria to Blackfriars. Got scalped left, right and centre.

Pootled a bit today though kept my scalp intact. Guy on a black Giant TCR in Cervelo/Fizik shorts looked rapid given less traffic and it was only lycra vs baggies and my saddle bag that kept my FCN low enough that I wasn't overly concerned when he passed and I just about hung on.

good fun last night, wet and windy!

If you are going to draft me all the way from parl sq to albert bridge, dont then pass and attack like the clappers without a word of thanks, its just plain rude!

Such a beautiful ride today, if a tad nippy... arm warmers time of year
  • What a difference some PSI makes, ay? Powered thru both commutes yesterday.

Homeward bound I left Paddington at about 7.30pm and proceeded to be drowned...I think that was the wettest I have ever been on my bike.

At times visibility was reduced to such an extent I had practically to come to a stop to be safe. However, coming to stop was not so easy. It appeared that I had no brakes with the rivers rushing beneath my wheels thru Hyde Park. It was definitely..."Steady as she goes, Capt'n...!

  • Had one of those mornings that your glad your on a bike. Traffic down QTR was GRIDLOCKED - spent most of it down the centre of the road trying to hold off a guy on a lovely old baby blue Holdsworth with a Dura-Ace rear derailleur that looks like it could have been made my Noah :-) He had a very good turn of speed and shot off from the lights at the cross-road easily dispatching the other riders. Required a push to around 26/27 to pass him :-)

Once it got all snarled up SCR was put on hold and I was trying to find a way back across to the bus lane, eventually found one and got a bit more room and some marginally safer riding (always fun playing chicken with on-coming cars, lorries, buses etc!)

Hit Embankment and found a gent on a Trek with tri bars. Another spurt to high 20's needed to pass him and he was giving it some too! Thankfully the car behind us was a little patient (possibly as we where rather close to the speed limit so not *really* holding them up) as we rode side-by-side battling it out. I eeked out a small lead and shoulder checked before pulling back in. Got a flying entry into MIllbank and think I got him then as I don't recall seeing him much after that. We took slightly different lines across the junction as I didn't fancy chancing going up the inside of the left indicating car.....

I said to myself I would never SCR.......

But.... this morning enjoyed chase with a guy on Spec Allez Sport, White Shimano Shoes, Black Ruck Sack and Off Green shirt from Clapham South to Kennington. 20 to 25 mph all the way, 185bpm nearly killed me :0).

Over took him twice only to be taken back twice, Would of got third time but for RLJ at Kennington.

Still got to work sub one hour not bad considering the first time I ever commuted 2 years ago it took me 2 hours.

You have a pannier don’t you? For some reason I thought it might have been you when you laid down some rubber on LRR! Didn’t even give me a chance to check out what you were riding. Think I’ll recognise you next time.

Late ride in this morning hitting Embankment around 8.30. Got pwned outside the Morpeth by a very distinctive guy in Lampre jersey who turned off at LBR. Too much competition at that time I’m going back to earlies tomorrow.
