Had to quickly fit my racerguards this morning due to the light rain in Brizzle this morning, gladly I didn't really need them but my bum and legs were drier for fitting them. I had a soapy looking substance gathering on the tips of the guards which I can only assume is something coming off the tyre as today was the first wet ride on my Schwalbe Blizzards.
I did see a BSO on the pavement with a Dunlop golf umbrella for rain protection
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Anyone come across a woman on a red Giant (not the dossard referred to above) on Embankment? She's quick!

Not the one I saw with the chiselled looking calves? I thought she rode a red Spesh, but there could be to of them.

She's faster than the one on the Spesh (saw her yesterday morning).

*fnar fnar* where are the greg's or ddd when you need them :-)

Nothing to report from me, saw 4 other bikes all day on my short n shite commute, all hybrids or mtbs! I did however find out some good bike related news today which could see me joining the carbon super powers club finally!

Gnurk - t'other Greg's quick enough to try that, but he'd have to catch her first... No hope!

I have a single speed road bike...recently I started riding her for London commmutes,....trouble is, I'm 38, and my knees are starting to hurt. I've tracked it to 2 thing; there's a Mt Ventoux steep cycle path .... I have to absolutely grind up it,
FWIW, when I first started on the fixie, I made it a point of principle to climb the hill every morning - but after a couple of weeks, the nagging pain in my calf wasn't going away, so I 'did the sensible thing' and started walking up the hill. Did that for about two or three months, but I could feel the general fixie riding (jncluding some lesser hills) was strengthening my legs, so I decided to have another go, and this time, no problems.

Are we talking about the actual same hill? Because I don't know that this one will ever really be sensible on this bike, but if you are also talking about the same hill, well, then I'll take your word.

SamWise...Are you talking about the hill up from West Quay Road to the station?

God no, I can roll up that easily enough. I'm talking about the little stretch of cycle path that takes you back up to Shirley High Street.

Hmm, sounds like the guy I saw this morning, though he was in a yellow top. There can't be that many black'n'yellow Dolans around!

Had a fun ride back tonight. Got overtaken by a guy on one of the more expensive Boardman's with some very nice Zipp aero wheels. He was in team kit and had the speed to match the kit and the attire. Came past me going past Royal Hospital Road. Held his wheel up past Imperial Wharf, having a brief chat on the way but wsa secretly glad when he turned right and I carried on.

Left me and a guy in a white Specialized top to duke it out all the way to Wandsworth Bridge. Nip and tuck after Imperial Wharf but I thought I'd made a killer blow by flying past him on Col de Wandsworth but dag namit if he didn't re-appear at the lights past Wandsworth Town. Had a brief chat before heading separate ways past Southside.

    Chapeau to them both

Bit slippy this morning, the summer weather's finally arrived in South Wales - rain, wind and it's still dark!

Couple of passes this morning, one of them (a guy on a very nice Spesh hardtail mtb) held my wheel for a mile or so before I dropped him.

Hopefully it will dry up for the ride home.

First time to new office and its not too bad all in all. Not done the racetrack in reverse for a while - loads of hybrids and a few roadies all despatched. One chap on a pearson with pearson jersey who gentley overtook just before millbank only for me to take back point at the lights.

Fair bit of rljing over side of the river - I can see why but still... Especially when I overtake you for the 4th time that morning on such a short stretch.

    Morning all!

Nothing this morning. Very tired. Even put my tights and a long sleeve top on at home, I wanted "comfy" this morning.

How am I going to do the Dunwich?

Nice joust with a guy on a Lightspeed this morning; spotted him about 750m away and it took me the next 7km to catch him just beofre Hapton Court Bridge. He took the cyclepath and I got held up at the road junction so I took him again (this time me on the path and him on the road) on the way into Kingston. He powered ahead over the bridge and then took the one way whilst I took the cycle route.

On my way to spin so went though the park via White Lodge only to be taken on the way up the hill by Mr Lightspeed again. Cruise down though Roehampton Gate and then I take him on Priory Lane. I offer a wheel, but it appears that he doesn't want it. I made the lights at the end and either he didn't or he went straight on to Barnes.

    Was a nice ride. Cheers.

That's the one. A fair bit of speed, but he really has to mash to get up to it. SS, eh?

Reasonable run this morning, but almost blew a gasket trying to catch a very quick shaved roadie in black and white shorts, black l/s jersey and black bike (didn't spot the brand). Could just about hold a gap but not really closing at all. Lost him around P. Sq, which was probably just as well. Bit off more than I could chew there.

I wonder if my lack of mojo in the legs the past few weeks, making me look like an easy scalp on my mtb, has anything to do with the doctor diagnosing shingles yesterday :(
day 2 of not riding. seriously contemplating going to the gym, closing my eyes and dreaming I'm out on the road gathering scalps.....

who's the other masochist? I've been adding a hill and/or extra km at the end of my commute in the last week...not that I'm practising or anything  went past *the* pub one night, was soooo tempting to stop in for a nifty half!!

Jaysus, CB you prepping to kill me or what?

I should warn you I'm currently in training to do a marathon so not sure the legs will be strong enough for your terrain (that's my ready excuse and I'm sticking to it 8) ).

Some carnage on the speed way last night, saw two cyclists being tended to by paramedics. First was under the Victoria Rail bridge, and the second was on the bend at Cheyne Walk after Battersea Bridge. Hope they're all right.

Riding the faster of my foldies today, drop bars, higher gearing, but still full suspension and Schwalbe Marathons, so some power sappers to overcome. Riding from Euston to Waterloo, so nobody til Kingsway. Was, as ever, the fastest down that road, blasting through a nodder who was technically a scalp, and annihilating a bloke in shorts on a roadie, but who flattered to deceive.

A better measure was the bloke on the roadie (make and model not seen) with the granite quads, shorts and singlet, expensive cycling shades and spds who came up behind me in traffic on the Strand. After the lights he entered Waterloo bridge ahead of me, and we both paced the traffic through the narrow section, me in primary, him on the left two cars ahead. This always feels like the end of a keirin to me, and my plan was to blast down the outside as the traffic split (I needed to go right at the lights), and go past him like a rocket. In reality, he got a faster escape on the inside, and though I maintained the gap, I'm not sure I reeled him in at all. My strenuous efforts, however, resulted in me arriving at the roundabout in 9th (top), and dropping the chain as I tried to grind away from a standstill in that gear. That necessitated me coasting to the middle to refit the chain, which is really not what you want on that roundabout. Chapeau to the fella, who had a decent engine on him, but I reckon on an equivalent bike, it would have been a different story. I arrived at Waterloo to find I'd sweated right through the jacket of my linen suit!

got taken by a 12 year old boy yesterday on a mountain bike with knobblies..... oh the shame

..... but it had taken him 10mins to catch up with me and the only way he got past me was jumping on the pavement, as I was stuck in traffic..
