Turned out rather well this morning. Popped into Evans in Fulham yesterday to get a couple more filters for my face mask. Took rather a long time to serve me despite staff outnumbering customers 2 to 1, but anyway, when I got home last night, I realised that they had sold me an already opened pack, with only one filter in it. So this morning I had another split commute via Fulham.
Trinity Road was stacked again until the dual carriageway, but then managed 54kph down the slope to the roundabout .
After getting a refund at Evans, I headed off to the Embankment. As I was filtering through the traffic on Cheyne Walk, I hear someone behind me complaining about me filtering too slowly (bit rude, I thought. If I don't think it's safe, I'll ride at what speed I like, cue red mist). As soon as the traffic cleared I pushed on. The chap - shaved roadie on a carbon red/black Cervelo w/ blue Bell lid and black/white shorts - pulls away first at the next lights, so of course I HAVE to chase him down. Skip forward a bit, and he managed to get back in front in the run up to LBR, where I lost him in traffic...
... or so I thought. Steaming along Victoria Embankment (chasing a very nippy grey FG/white jersey) I spot the Cervelo from before ahead. A little judicious application of MTFU, and I'm past again. We both meet up at the top of the Blackfriars ramp before heading separate ways. Thanks for the race Mr Cervelo, but next time don't be so impatient.
P.S. totally ruined any idea of taking it easy this morning.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Bumped into a yet another shed of an MTB a while back on the way to meet some buds. This guy could really shift too. I'd catch him up, he'd look back and check on me, then he'd up the tempo a little - by the time we both stopped at the lights we were both shagged and dripping in sweat. We had a bit of a chat and he headed off left and I went straight on.

Oh thank god... It wasn't just my imagination. Or do you live in the east?
Actually, it wasn't that bad. Champagne helps. :oops:0 -
that was quite frankly one of the shittest ride homes in history - wtf was up the traffic on almost all of the embankment from blackfriars to where it curves up for hsk. That and the cnut of a headwind that I swear changed direction!

Took a car on the way home today :-) I was behind them at the lights and as they changed I gave it the beans. We where next to a bus, both of us in L2. She pulls in front of the bus once she is ahead of that so I spin up and pull past her
I did realize again today that if I want to hit 30+ mph in my normal gear I have to get rather spinny :-) A point worth considering if I ever get round to building myself that SS that I keep promising myself.....0 -
Hoooo and indeed Yaaah
I've just come under the M25 on the A1000 2 -3 mins inside my checkpoint time and I spy up ahead The Guy in Yellow on MTB with Chunky Calves who has left me behind going up that bit of hill before. Today I'm feeling quite good (plus got toe clips fitted yesterday to move me up the foodchain) and as he stands up out of the saddle to turn a big gear up the hill, I sit back on my foldy in a nice low gear high cadence and start to reel him in. At the top when it flattens out I cruise past him and see he's on SPD's just to make the scalp a deeper cut.
I forget about him until I'm coming through Whetstone as I'm waiting at the lights and he jumps up on the pavement to RLJ then gets stroppy when the cars that are following their turn at the lights don't make way for him. The lights change, and as we pull away the driver next to me points at him and says "that biker is a bad man" - I have to agree. So I reel him in and cruise past again this time taking his short back and sides.
He passes me by RLJ'ing again at Tally Ho corner where I turn off. If you are that desperate to get to work quickly, might I suggest turning your pedals a little faster.
Not that I was racing him of course. I just happened to be going to work at a faster pace than him.

Got passed by a very swift chap in faded Dulwich Paragon shorts on Balham High road this morning. It was most definitely not 'on'. Wouldn't have had a chance. I know my place.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Aye, I was in a red vest yesterday as it happens, sounds like me. Where were you?
Embankment sure was horrible yesterday.0 -
Head yet another run in with the guy on the old, tatty peppermint Condor! WTF? That's 3 times in a week. This time he came out of the side street just before Albert Bridge and I managed to drop him away from the lights and all the way to VB. Just as I was counting that as a scalp, the road the other side of P'Square opened up and he dropped the hammer. I was ready for this and took of after him.
Now I'm not slow but I can only hold 26mph for a short period of time. Mr Black-Cap-Tatty-Condor can hold it for longer than me. Not much more but enough to slowly drag out a lead. He also managed to get a draft from a Kappaugh (sp?) lorry before undertaking it. By the time I caught the lorry the damage had been done.
I call a draw
Also ran into (not literally) a guy in full team kit on a roadie on the drag between VB and P'Square where I shouted at a twunt on an MTB that cut me up for zero benefit. The roadie was pretty quick but didn't see him again when I was chasing Mr CBTC to assume he went a different way.
All in all, my legs now hurt but I've still got to ride homeFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

It was you! Tailed you from blackfriars ish all the way to 2nd to last bridge on the racetrack. Red face mask and shades and annoying huge blue crumpler. Yeah sorry about that... I've got nothing on Ponch!
You're ringing bells. Embankment was a bit off last night and I was well up for an easy roll home. But someone kept bothering me from behind! What were you riding?0 -
Came home at 12 today due to a bit of an emergency; it took an hour and a half. Seriously, rush hour has less traffic than lunch time.

Slicked mtb from my sig - there were a couple of roadies that tried to catch you too but you weren't having any of it. I beat you (and everyone else) off the lights at morpeth but you came past soon after then a few minutes later some spinny bow legged chap tried to catch you and get his scalp back from me... you 6'4'' plus I can only presume? Long legs anyway.Le Cannon [98 Cannondale M400] [FCN: 8]

All my cycling shorts seem to look like hot pants put it that way. I’m 6’5ish.
I remember someone with quite wide bars who held good speed through DSC? I might have cut in front of him when filtering further on. But then I also remember another guy with a blue crumpler. Who am I kidding, it’s just one big blur!

No SCR action, but what on earth was going in central Londoin this evening. Crawled down Moorgate and round to Blackfriars so assumed Vic Embankment would be stacked (it was) and went over the bridge and round past Waterloo (also stacked), then back over Westminster Bridge. The other side of LBR, the road was empty! Eh? After that normal service but forced myself to spin in the small ring so I don't have sore legs for tomorrow's hills. Managed not to chase after anyone, which is quite an achievement for me.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

There was a demonstration at Parliament Square, all traffic around there was stopped at around 6pm. Had to walk from Westminster Bridge to Millbank.0 -

I think watching the TdF over the weekend has inspired my body to new heights. This morning I was what can only be described as AWESOME. No-one came past, all who tried failed, even the black and white lycra'd roadie drafting fairy got dropped; even the traffic in front of me melted out of my way to alow me clear progress.
However, I'm not looking forwards to the return to reality that will be tonightFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -
Well, a 'no-sweat-super-pootle-mode' commute this AM due to poor planning on my part.
Still managed a few scalps, mostly RLJ-ing roadies, but got pwned (not scalped) by a guy all in blue (Greg66 style) on a blue trek in Shebu.
I passed him up the hill to the rbt, then he clicked down a few gears and cruised past me round the bend.
Damn it.
In other news, the new fixie may well be getting a basket...0 -
Got taken briefly this morning by another CX on slower tyres than mine (humph), overtook him again and we played tag for a mile or so until I went past.
In my defence he appeared to be about 15 years younger than me, was on a better bike than mine and was RLJ.; annoying nonetheless0
