Silly commuting racing

Any of you lot ride an odd-looking Pacific Cycles Reach (those were the words on the frame, anyway) rather quickly eastwards on High St Ken in the morning? If so I scalped you twice but traffic meant I couldn't do you a third time before I had to turn off. Decent pace though.
Ahh - it's a folder - thought it might be but couldn't see any hinges!

Wasn't up for it this morning. Just as well that I saw only one road bike until Cheyne Walk. Where was everyone?
The second one I saw was a Rapha Condor on Chelsea Embankment. I wasn't interested; I didn't have the legs. And he looked as if he would have handed my @rse to me on a plate. He scooted by, but didn't disappear off down Embankment, so kept him within sight.
Joined up with a carbon Pinarello in Parlt Square. The rider had seriously large thighs and fancied a shot at the Rapha. They accelerated off towards Horseguards, leaving me waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind.
I decided to MTFU a bit and have some fun. So, when Rapha upped the pace as we past Embankment tube, and the Pinarello chased, I decided to join in. We were doing 27-28 and, tbh, it was starting to hurt. They turned off at Blackfriars and I went past on the the tops of the bars: no way a scalp, but it's important to show that you haven't been dropped :P . (The fact that I was glad they had turned off is another matter. Time to rest the legs this weekend me thinks.)FCN 2-4.

To the fellow MTB'er in a black piss-pot helmet on the way down Lewis Road in Brighton.
Yes, I overtook you at Elm Grove junction on the lights but if you are going to RLJ the ped x'ing I stopped at and then mount the pavement at the next set of lights I'd ride quicker!
Sailing past you on the Old Stene was enjoyable.......0 -
there was definitely a head wind this morning
about 12 kmph from the east when i checked google.0 -
There was a headwind donut - I felt it too coming in late. Nowt to chase at all bar a tourer with panniers and a tw@ on a thing with two wheels. He ain't a cyclist and I can't bring myself to call it a bike.
Still too warm though. I don't want to sweat this much. Though given the volume of food I'm eating and belly slightly decreasing I've kicked some sort of high level metabolism overdrive and even going up the stairs makes me silly warm... Its a crazee.

There was a south-easterly this morning, so no tailwind, which made my 17.2mph average was pretty damn good! Easily my quickest journey into work ever.0

Last night I came across several very rapid cyclists, including one on a fixie with a very high gearing and a very nippy MTB rider (though his bike looked pretty decent). Anyone claim to be riding down Kings Road about 7 last night who fits either description?0

I did actually have a hardtail is tow for the first half of Embankment. Try as I might, I couldn't muster enough energy to get rid of him.FCN 2-4.

Seem to have had a few people try it on this week.
Either I'm getting slow enough to be worth trying to catch, or there are actually more people out on my routes than during summer.0 -
Had the 'I'm a target (black worldchamp)' socks on yesterday on the way to the hospital and knew I had to MTFU on the 200ft/three mile climb and did claim three scalps on the steeper stretch coming upto Horfield Common, a hybrid then a hybrid and folder in one movement. They weren't playing but I was.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

It is with an immense sense of pride and achievement mixed with some trepidation that I make my first ever post to the holy grail of the commuting forums. THE SCR THREAD.
I suspect few of you would have noticed thisthread going past at the time and even fewer will remember it (at least I do hope so! ) but, for me, that day was etched in my brain indelibly. The horror. The shame. The downright ridiculousness!!
Today I exorcised those demons! Today, I graduated. Today, I proudly proclaim my 1st real scalp (Yoda lookalikes and rotund women on mountain bikes just don’t count!). Today I add my FCN to my signature and will forever more wear it with pride!
A fully lycra clad roadie with thighs like Hoy and a mean look in his eye* ate my dirt! Slight downhill into a mean headwind, he never even saw me coming  . I pushed hard into the wind, pumped the legs and swept past him. Left him for dead with my £200 hybrid complete with black plastic flats and panniers! Oh it felt sooooo sweet
About 1/2 a mile later (I have absolutely no idea if he followed me, chased me, turned off or stopped to post a letter - I never dared to look back!!!) and I have not stopped pushing for all I am worth, I reach that mean, but mercifully short, uphill that only 5 short months ago would have put me in my granny ring and 2nd gear. Today I never dropped out of the big ring (granted it nearly killed me after all the other pushing too!) and this was on mile #100 out of my usual 104 for a week. Today was a good day!
I home you will all forgive me basking in my success just a little and let me pat myself on the back for just how far I have come since my 'failed apprenticeship' post.

I got my first scalp tonight :-) I've been commuting on and off for a few years now but in my defence:
1, My commute is pretty short (a shade over 6 miles)
2, I only over see four of five other bikes buring the whole journey (mostly MTB)
3, I hadn't even heard of SCR until a couple of months ago* :-)
So I was trundling along tonight feeling pretty good when I realise I'm gaining on the guy ahead of me. At first I thought he wasn't scalp material, fast hybrid (like me), lycra (like me), backpack (like me) but then I noticed, no mudguards!. Hmmm, I thought, that's a bit of fine distinction, would it really count? Then I glanced down and lo and behold he's clipped in (I'm on flats). Right, I thought, you're mine.
As I sailed passed I'm sure I heard him change up to give chase** but I was gone, score one to me.
I was grinning like an idiot all the way home :-)

You have my heartfelt congratulations on a fine post and a fine scalp.

Well I have to say I'm enjoying taking scalps on my Dahon.
I'm racking up hundreds of points, mainly MTBs and hybrids but a few road bikes too!
The streets of London may be paved with gold, but they are also home to loads of "all the gear no idea" road bike riders - recognisable by jumping red lights then shifting into as high a gear as possible, using a jurassic cadence which means I pass them a few hundred yards on, spinning away.
Todays first scalp was on Eversholt road, a green fixie with a white deep rimmed rear wheel. I'm stopped at a red, he meanders through, jumps the light then grinds along at 30 rpm. I pass him, stop at the next light and he jumps it again!!
Catch him second time - pass and long gone.
Certainly finding the folder good for increasing my fitness - I'm spinning out in top gear and the higher rolling resistance is really helping my stamina.
As a Scot I can (grudgingly) say - London is a beautiful city when you are on a bike at 7.30 in the morning.plus je vois les hommes, plus j'admire les chiens

I'm in work at 7am, on earlys like todays though Bushy Park more than makes up for that, passing a big old stag in around about the same place at mo, massive, with some scaring down face and sides, some old some not so old.0 -

Ta cj. and congrats to you pedalpendant, my graduation classmate!
Riding (at least until the cycle2work scheme at work kicks in!) a land rover hybrid which i bought from amazon complete with panniers and black plastic flats. I did get some decent tyres for her though.
She is undoubtedly a 'bso' but to be fair to her she has served her purpose well enough and whilst some substandard parts are definately 'creaking' a little and gear changes are less than smooth (and often less than accurate!!) I dont regret buying her for one minute. TOUCH WOOD!
