top bit still closed but should be open soon, if you want to know in the near future you'd have to ring the cyclewise shop to find out.

I`m sure there`s a rally on at Grizedale as well, not very well planned. Looks like i`ll be going au naturelle on Saturday. Lets hope the weather holds up.0 -
Just checked and both Grizedale and Whinlatter are closed Saturday. It`s the same Rally.0

Yes there was a small sign about closure during the rally at the entrance to the carpark.
The top section was closed on thursday night still and I wouldnt hold my breath for it reopening soon as it was icy and an inch or so of frozen snow up at higher levels.0 -
Ventured there this Saturday despite the rally.............it was great !!!!
Managed to do both the North Loop and The South Loop even in the pouring rain and gale force winds
This place is going to get jam packed in the summer so Id suggested getting the wet weather gear out and braving the conditions. It seemed the muddier people came back the bigger the smiles0 -
lovelybones was all the track open?0

Not according to the website.0

Top of South side is still closed, and it probably won't open for at least another month, maybe longer if people insist on riding it anyway. Idiots!
Work has started on the blue route too, had a wee walk down to look at part of the track that can be seen from the fire road looks smooth and hopefully fast, no idea when it's due to be completed though.0 -

Well someone needs to tell the guy in the shop then coz it ws him that told everyone it was open !!!! Therefore plenty people were riding it the day I went !!0 -

The bottom section of the south side is still open but I assumed since the sign was still up on the fence that the top section of south side was still closed. But if you were told it was ok to ride then fair enough.0 -
Orite yeah ive bin on da new altura trail abosolutely quality. Was on it yesterday wiv ma bro did north loop and part of da south loop but some of it was closed so did the downhill section on the north loop again brilliant0
-
I throughly enjoyed it on Saturday- nice and sunny but not too warm.
Think I've been up there the last 3 weeks- I'm getting to know every root, rock and tree!0 -

Ha ha.
South section top was due to be re-opened on Saturday just gone, not sure if it was though.0 -
Was still shut at dinnertime(ish) om Saturday gone- shame as I reckon we might of got just above cloud level then...0
-
Shop said it was ok to ride south loop top section last night, not sure if it's officially open but i'd imagine they'll be using it this weekend for the enduro event so it should be open properly after that.0

Rough translation into English -
"Good afternoon. I have been on the new Altura trail, and I must say that the quality is top notch. I went yesterday with my brother. We rode the North loop, and also part of the Southern loop. Some of it was closed, so we rode the DH section on the North loop again. We quite enjoyed ourselves."
Why should England tremble... :shock:0 -

Made a couple of alterations0 -
im probs doing it on a relatively heavy full suss in a few days. is it okay for that kind of bike or should i rent a lighter bike?0
-
I did it on a Pitch and it was fine - the first climb on the north loop is a bit of an arse but nothing to worry about. I wouldn't bother renting a bike specially. How heavy is your bike?0
-
like 42lbs its more of a freeride bike. do you think renting a full suss is better than a hardtail?0
-
Seeing as this seems the official thread-
The South loop is now fully open 8)0 -
good stuff! I`m pleased they`ve got it repaired, they were also hoping to get the blue trail open by Easter too.My 2012 Cube LTD http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128035930

Yeah South loop is fully open and the gates gone. There is a notice at the top stating that the first section after this is to be upgraded in the future to make it more sustainable - involves helcoptering (is that a word?) rocks to the top to pave it i think.
Noticed the blue route also - it seems to branch off the first section of singletrack on the north side. initial section look near finished imo.0 -
Went there this morning, as we were up in the lake district.
Me and my little brother of twelve (he is no mountain biker) easily managed the first half of the south loop, then we had to go back. After zig zagging a lot you could go back down the road to get back to the visitors centre.
I then went and did the entire north loop on my own. My god that was fun. Really want to go again. I need to build my confidence up a bit though as a fair few of the larger steps / berms near the end I walked down because I was too scared .
Managed all of it though, Met some really nice guys on the way. I think i'd have done better had I better gear. All i've got is my Gortex walking coat (far too long, gets caught on the saddle when trying to stand up), some addidas trackie bottoms and my trainers. Did it all in about 2 hours though.0
