I wasn't referring so much to the UK - our contribution to overall demand is pretty puny anyway - but to worldwide energy generation.

This is what's going to get this Planet finished. It's the "Oh look at China and their power stations, why should I give anything up when they're screwing things up".
It's like the end of a bike race when a small group of riders all look at each other and wonder who is going to chase down the lone breakaway rider. They all hesitate and the race is lost!!

Jerry - don't worry the planet will be just fine. It's survived a lot worse than anything we can throw at it. The end of the Cretaceous for example. Oh and that nasty episode at the back end of the Permian too. It's more the issue of preserving the narrow parameters in which the human race can comfortably exist that's the problem here. And I mean economic parameters as well as environmental (I don't want to be sent back to the stone age). I really don't know why people talk about saving the planet. It's as if the planet and the human race are mutually exclusive entities. Fascinating really. We'll learn at some point.

No, the planet is going to be just fine. Always has been, always will be.

Well, until the sun goes supernova, of course. Then it's screwed.
