Argh, the rubber buyers have come back and are asking for a further price reduction. I've told them to bugger off as they've messed us around and already gave them a price reduction earlier in the process.

This is the 3rd buyer i've had after the previous 2 pulled out after 6 months each. This one is 4 months down the line, but I'd rather now sell for less to someone else than sell to them.

    Grrrr.

Tell them that it goes back on the market in time for the weekend if they don't accept the price?

Where are you looking to move to?
I've basically told the estate agents to tell them to bugger off and that i've had enough of them messing me around.

We did put an offer in on place in Walton on the Hill, which was accepted, but them my wife's sale fell through (we're selling 2 flats to buy 1 house together) and we had to pull out. We're now pretty much back to square 1.

We were also considering Kingston, but couldn't find what we wanted in our price range.

    Ah, bugger.

    Looked at Hinchley Wood?

Ah well, o complaint to ofcom completed

Was it bad? I don't really want to watch it but I'm morbidly curious

I turned off after 5 minutes.
Seriously just read the guardian's piece opinion on the show
    https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... -less-safe
" Many motorists see cyclists as scum of the roads – speeding through crossings, riding where they shouldn’t, and generally hogging the roads."
"For many drivers in the capital, cyclists have become public enemy number one."
"What really winds motorists up is the feeling that cyclists are allowed to pedal outside of the law."
"It’s not just in cities that some riders are on a right old rampage."
"The pastoral dream – or it was until the cyclists came"

then formally complain to Ofcom as breaching section 3.3 (and likely others) of the broadcast code.
    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/ ... e-Full.pdf
3.3: "Material which contains abusive or derogatory treatment of individuals, groups,
religions or communities, must not be included in television and radio services

    I've complained to ofcom.

I'd suggest not watching the program on demand, it only encourages them to make more of this tabloid shite.

It's between Thames Ditton and Esher, and if you're heading south on the Portsmouth Road, it's off to the left.

Nice area, and has good schools. And a cracking garden centre, if that's your thing :)

East Molesey also worth a look.

Among the general idiocy, this is the most ridiculous. If you are driving a car in London, you are the problem.

I think it's fair to say anything that involves collective disagreement has been deeply rooted in the ridiculous for a while now. Culture wars permeate most things.

As it's on 5, I assume it will have had more views from cyclists getting angry with it than any other viewers. I don't think I've watched anything on that channel for several years.
  • I watched the Channel 5 thing last night and yes it was obviously hyped up stuff BUT it did show a lot of instances of cyclists riding like dickheads. I'd hate to live and cycle in London area, be a nightmare. Likewise Box Hill looked ridiculous with numbers going up/down, no wonder locals get pissed off. Obviously two sides to argument and lots of instances of cars etc driving terribly and dangerously to cyclists. As always, two sides to it.

There's lots of cyclists on the road there, but so what? You don't have to drive up that private road, if it disturbs you to go at someone else's speed.

what's ridiculous is the massive queue of cars at the weekend if the sun's shining, waiting for a parking space at the top.

    But yeah, cyclists....

Locals do not really drive up and the down the zig-zag road to get to and from home though. It's primarily for visitors to the look out and the national trust cafe (I grew up in Dorking).

This. Absolutely this. Nobody ever questions the 'right' of people to drive to beautiful places and contribute to their ruination by polluting then, but for some reason, it's considered perfectly legitimate to criticise cyclists for getting in their way to do so? It's so arse-about-face as to be almost ludicrous, yet even some of us cyclists legitimise this spuriousness. We need to be re-framing the criticism rather than sympathising with it or getting defensive about it

I haven't watched it, but what did this mean? Surely that wasn't drivers saying that the countryside was nicer for them to drive cars in without cyclists making it unpleasant?

I saw on the local Twatter that some guy's started cycling 3 miles to school with his little lad, there's no cycle paths so they ride on the road which is mostly fine apart from a couple of short dodgy bits so they hop onto the pavement for these bits.
An "angry woman" apparently had a go at him and his son for cycling on the footway as she was going to her car - parked on the footway stopping them (and pedestrians) getting past anyway
  • Hang on, I'm not legitimising any criticism of cyclists but I'm also not blinkered to te idiots on the road both driving and cycling. It almost appears some here think if you cycle you can do no wrong. Also how the fuck can you comment on a program you haven't even watched!

Not sure where you get "some here think if you cycle you can do no wrong" from, seems that most are merely asking that any programme such as this is balanced, instead of being a dog-whistle hatchet-job
  • Ha! If you think any program called "Cyclists scourge of the road" on Channel 5 will be a balanced view you need to get out more. It was only ever going to be a click bait fest. Trick is to see through it with a BALANCED view.

    A. You can complain about the advert for a show. I did so. From talking to other people who watched the show, and having seen a few snippets so far this morning, it's followed exactly the trash tv line expected by the title and advert

    b. Nobody believes all people who ride a bike are angels, or that all people who drive are demons. Some PEOPLE are idiots, and they're equally shared across all modes of transport.
However, an idiot in a 2 tonne vehicle can do an awful lot more damage than an idiot on a 15kg bike, and given that on average 1700+ people are killed and hundreds of thousands more seriously injured in incidents involving drivers, and circa 3 people killed involving cyclists a year, it's really important to look at the full picture.

Just seen the clip from the show where someone who drives a large, red, SUV around box hill, in which the narrator states something along the lines of "The problem is, [the driver] has been pushed off the road by all these cyclists"

The narrator said that. The fricking narrator.

This though: Although the programme showed Hodson writing out a ticket for a driver it wasn’t explained she was actually getting points on her licence, after overtaking Hodson at the wrong point, too close, on her mobile phone, with an unsecured baby in the front seat.

Road'cc's write up/response and review - seems about right.

The problem is that you're buying into the con trick being pulled on all of us. Do some cyclists ride like twats? Yes. Do some drivers drive like twats? Also yes. But the difference here is that the consequences of those two things are NOT EQUAL - borne out by statistics showing on average 2-3 people killed per year by cyclists, and 1700+ killed (with 24,000+ seriously injured) by drivers. The two things are not even comparable - but they are given equal weight in the media and, as a result, the argument isn't being framed correctly.

And I also don't under tnad the 'you didn't even watch it' argument. I don't need to have watched Idi Amin's speeches to know that he was a murderous tyrant responsible for the death of thousands of people.

  • Well firstly watch the program then comment on the program. It helps.

Secondly, if it was about numbers killed/maimed then it would be a whole different ball game, it wasn't about that.

I'm not defending the program in the slightest, I cycle regularly (admittedly in quiet area) so I'm hardly going to support the view point of cyclists being a menace but I do see in some cases they do cause an irritant to other road users. Whatever, we're going in circles here.
