One of the parents is on endless conference calls (not unusual in our office), and has asked his child not to disturb him. Clearly wanting to please Dad, child has left him alone, and is marching up and down the aisles singing "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" at maximum volume...

Just realised that this winter's Love to Ride winter wheelers competition is limited to councils that have paid it - the last few years it's been open to all comers, with specific prizes for those in paying council areas, and I've been recording my mileage on that daily, but I'm out of zone.

And there I was hoping for a chance at a new jacket or some such freebie.
I think it changed earlier in the year as we tried to join it for bike to work week (We won the local competition a few years ago) but it said we had to pay.

New tyres. When my tyres get that old I'll have a succession of punctures then I'll put new tyres on, 3000 miles equates to just over 1p/mile for the cost of the tyre.

Except unless my PX bottle cages are not a standard circumference, which I'm not ruling out due to their history of London Road frame seat tubes  , these flasks are 5mm + too small a diameter for my bottle cages.

For goodness sake, it's an official TDF merchandise product!

Idiot here, after putting the bike to rest before xmas, which included a quick clean up and tune up to account for cable stretch, and pumped up the tyres, followed by a quick ride, assumed the bike would still be good to go this morning.

And therefore rode in on rather underpressured wheels - it was comfy, but slow work!

is that a bit more of a rant?

Although it wasn't proper dark this morning - you could see - just needed full lights on... it will be proper dark on the way home - but the lights are now fully charged.

Did similar to Slowbike with the lights over Xmas. Last commute home was 20/12 and one of the rear lights was off when I got home so made a mental note to charge it before I went back in on 27/12, only remembered the light needing charging on 27/12 when I left for home at 22:00, luckily the discharged light isn't my only rear light.

Spare light ran out of juice last night and now it won't charge...only 8 months old as a replacement for another light and Wiggle won't replace it.

Think i shouted lights at more unlit cyclists in the last 3 days then i did in the whole of last year. Why cant people just buy a cheap front and back light for their brand new bike.

Why have Lyzene stopped making front lights that fir all the mounts i have on my 5 bikes i dont want to have to replace 5 mounts when i need to get a new light.

Bottom bracket on the new bike's picked up a horrid squeak - but sounds more like a tyre rubbing on a mud guard, but intermittent, however repeatable in the stand.
Have taken the chain and pedals off, and it's still there, so definitely BB. will suffer the squeaks for todays rides, and whip it out to have a proper look at the weekend, if I can get the right tools.
(and probably replace the praxis with a shimano 6800 BB)

rant on behalf of another cyclist I saw riding up a fairly steep hill, well steep for round here,on my way to shops, when a bus appeared at the top and started their way down, on the bus side of the road there was a bunch of parked cars, the cyclists side was clear, now fair enough the bus needs to move out to pass the cars and there was enough room to have fitted the bus, the cars and the cyclist comfortably pass each other.

But for some reason the bus decided they needed to move out beyond even the dooring zone range of the cars, which meant them virtually taking up 3/4qtrs of the opposite lane road space, leaving actually a bigger gap on their side of the road than they were then givingthe cyclist, who had not much a handlebars width and half to ride up the hill they were already struggling at this point with, cue lots of wobbling and poor guy had to basically ride kerbside as he faced 14tonnes of metal accelerating downhill towards him.

all of which didnt half feel a deliberate might is right get out my way move by the bus driver.

Another 8 wheel tipper parking on the SUP when there is parking spaces available so the driver could pop into the bakery. Will this company take the same line as the last company I notified??
Riding in primary through an S-bend that also has double white line and intend to turn right after the bend so look and am aware of a car behind me, move nearly to the white line ready for the RH turn and have to slow cause there's a car wanting to come out of the road I'm turning into, one final shoulder check and the car behind me is now beside me overtaking me :o As soon as I look at the reg plate I know the driver straight away as it's a work colleague who I'll be speaking to tomorrow if he is in work.

  • Probably been said before, but having some retina nuking rear light attached to a helmet so it's pointing directly at cyclists behind is not great. Either point them up or down, I don't really get why there is a need for blazingly bright rear lights when cycling in Central London anyway.

Early ride this morning, so early that I had to keep stopping to turn the wake up alarms off on my phone, distance was only 26 miles but and was back home 11:30 but come mid afternoon my legs felt like I'd ridden 4x that. Was the lack of warm up and cold temperatures today possibly the reason for my legs complaining? I'm usually get up 3+ hours before I leave for work so my legs and body will have woken up properly, today was only an hour in the flat.

Arse driving a 1bigarchive.co.uk branded long wheel-based van almost wiped me out on Hampstead Road in Camden this morning. Sat at two-lane road on in the left lane at a temporary traffic light that had a light for cyclists (nice touch). It goes green for me, so I set off before the motor vehicles. I hear the van rev heavily (which i remember was in the right hand lane anyway) it pulls up along side, indicates left and then completely cuts across me into the left turn with me slamming on the brakes and shouting at him to stop. Fucking angry to be honest. I'm going to email the company, but i suspect they'll do sod all.

I actually got a very rapid and sincere reply back from the MD of the company even though he's currently on holiday and who he says is also a keen cyclist. they're going to check the cameras they have in the vans and take it from there.

As someone who has been driven into from the back, it sounds like a very good idea to have something bright enough to catch the attention.
